  1. If that's the hill they want to die on, then I hope they do indeed die on it (figurative death of course, not actual, real death). Supporter's groups in general are the most annoying thing in US soccer. As a Minnesota United fan, the supporter group drama I see happen here is just beyond stupid and does more to hurt non-SG fandom than it does to help. SGs are one of the main reasons why I don't think MLS will ever over take the major sports in the US.

With Snyder looking more and more likely to take a fall, I could see another name change in the sake of "turning the page". It's completely possible that the league grants them an exemption from the 5 year rule and we get he Red Tails identity we deserve.

Honestly at this point I think they should just stick with the name. It's not THAT bad, and changing the name again will just make it even more of a joke than it is. Keep the name, just change the uniforms to be good and...well...uniform.

So, this could absolutely be nothing, but Russell Wilson released a video yesterday of his offseason preparation through his production company. Now just about any other player I wouldn't give this the time of day, but Russell's media team is infamous for being obsessive in everything they do, in fact note that while there seems to be a ton of bottles around him, all are from companies he's partnered with or sponsored by.

Which makes it at the very least curious what the production company chose to be on screen behind Russell mysteriously blurred out despite the control bar being pretty visible..

I'll let you all be the judge.

Broncos are moving to monochrome blue full time this season. Don't ask how I know, I won't tell you. Orange color rush remains and orange alts as well. They are getting a throwback next year. The move was spearheaded by Russell Wilson.

If you don't believe me just look what color pants the team is wearing in practice.

I'll probably be banned for posting without proof so when the official announcement comes down I'll see you on the other side.

I'm having a hard time reconciling your first 2 posts on this page. Not saying you're wrong on the mono blue or anything, but it just seems like you're seeing a photo and trying to report it as fact. A team doing a photo op in all blue means nothing. Carolina regularly does stuff in the light blue jerseys (even in TV commercials), but that is still secondary. Personally I'll wait for announcement.

Edit to add: They've worn blue shorts in practice in the past. That's nothing new.

  4. Watching the game tonight. I didn’t watch any games this weekend. Did every game feature the announcer explaining what every play call is? Man it’s annoying. Takes away so much of the suspense of a play being a run, pass, play action, etc. Actually makes it really boring.

  5. It's their current crest with the "St Louis City" wording and vertical bar removed. The arch and the SC are in their exact same locations. My guess is that it's a secondary logo for use in cases like this. Minnesota United does similar things with their logo and removes the lettering in certain uses (albeit it's a lesser change to the overall crest).

    Edit: Made this to show...

Am I correct that prior to this season, there have been NO non-throwback alt helmets (excluding Rams' 2018-19 seasons)?

The Rams helmet wasn't an alt helmet. It was the same helmet just with different decals like other teams did with recent throwbacks.

No "1" should be flat on the top, unless it has a serif on the bottom.  It should really be angled at the top, even if that technically doesn't mesh with the rest of the font.

I guess it's not as bad as their previous "1" which made "11" look like a pause button.  The bears are the only team that can pull that off, and even then, I don't think I've seen an "11" on them.

Darnell Mooney currently. In the past Jeff George and Roy Williams have based (although I don't remember that specifically, had to google it lol).

Two legal passes behind the LOS is interesting, and the PI rules are good. 4th & 12 gimmick is 👎, and they somehow took college OT rules and made them even worse

The OT seems like the penalty kick idea from soccer. Not sure I like it, but I definitely will be curious how it plays it in real life.

    - Austin is wearing their mint kit at home against Seattle in their Hendrix secondaries. Probably the most sensible choice since the greens in Austin & Seattle’s primaries made for a tough matchup last year. Still unfortunate that a home team is effectively forced to change because the away team doesn’t have a kit combo that provides sufficient contrast.

Yet another reason to hate Seattle.

Barring some major offseason moves or injuries, the final AFC playoff spot probably comes down to Chargers or Patriots.  The North probably doesn't have a wild card team, nor the South.  It doesn't take a scientist to predict a playoff field of KC, CIN, TEN, BUF, DEN, LV, and one of NE/LAC.

You don't think a Ravens team with a healthy Lamar can challenge for a wildcard?

Overall its going to be a really enjoyable weekend to watch in MLS. Lots of great looking match ups.

Sigh. If only I could watch my Loons. But they really screwed the pooch with their TV deal in going with a provider that isn't on any of the streaming services.

I mean darker colors absorb more energy so I don't see how that type of thing can really be proven to be a "myth." That's just science.

I think it's more in the idea of "does an NFL player already wearing lots of equipment experience more heat in a lighter colored uniform or a darker colored uniform when it's 100 degrees outside" type of thing. Is there a measurable impact/advantage in wearing lighter colors in those instances. (not sure what the answer is)

I recommend a white helmet with white uniform for exactly two teams on that list. One of which already wore that look:

The other was part of the team's initial aesthetic.

Indeed I'm also recommending colored helmets for otherwise white capped teams (Bills/Cardinals) and in the Cardinals case, explicitly moving away from an all white uniform.

Yep I read what you wrote :) It's also why I said they wouldn't benefit from it. Eagles best secondary option is the Kelly green throwback. Houston Texans in all white with a white helmet also wouldn't be their best option.

I don't care for this argument. Primary because I don't think a team having one particular helmet for a long time means that its reached an evolutionary end point. Especially when it comes to helmets because the single helmet aesthetic really only came into being in 1950's and 1960's. The Cardinals used a white helmet for home and red helmets on the road as recently as 1957. We accept different helmets for home and away in hockey without even thinking about it.

So here's my list of teams that could benefit from an alternate (non-throwback) helmet design:

Eagles: White helmets with green wings with the all white uniform

Commanders: Gold helmets with burgundy "W"

Carolina: Black helmets with the blue over black uniform

Falcons: Red helmets for division games

Rams: Same shell but bring the white horns/facemask back with a plain royal/white uniform

Cardinals: Red helmet for road games (also powder blue or sand road uniforms)

Seattle: Grey paired with grey pants

    Bills: Red for division games

    Jaguars: Gold

Texans: White helmet with solid white uniform

Steelers: Gold helmet when wearing the color rush

Ravens: Purple for games against the Steelers

Raiders: Black helmet one day a year

A few things stick out to me about this list. Almost all of these teams have changed their uniforms at some point or another in the last 50 years. They aren't that many "iconic" NFL looks left. A lot of this is in keeping with the current aesthetic or similar to past designs. My conclusion is that there's a lot of wiggle room when we look at alternate helmets.

White helmets with all white uniforms is definitely not something any of those NFL teams would benefit from, and definitely not a bandwagon I want to see the NFL hopping on. It's something college teams do. It's one thing if that's already a part of a team's identity or history, because it's that team's individual brand. But to do it just for the sake of doing is just as annoying as teams doing BFBS. Team's should be sticking to their brand identities. Mostly in my view this means throwbacks, but I'm sure there could be an exception or two where a secondary helmet could fit in with that team's brand with an alt uniform.

Everytime I look at that Jags helmet I wonder, could they have used candy paint to get a better blended effect, geez?  It works for cars, shouldn't it work for helmets or is the material too different? Was it too expensive?

They were fading from a matte black to a metallic gold. Those 2 finishes don't really lend to smooth blending is my theory.

    I'm going to disagree there.

It's very possible for a team to have different template, color balances, even logos across their overall look. We see it all the time in hockey and baseball where it works well (just think about how many teams wear pinstripes at home but not on the road).

I think it works quite well in football so long as you get some kind of unifying element (defined broadly). Think about how different the NY Giants home and away looks have been for the last decade and a half, and especially since the team switched to white britches at home.

Its definitely possible if its done well and there are tons of examples of teams that have done it well.

Personally I hate the Giants look and the difference between home and away. That's not a good example to me, as I don't think their look works.

You know, I think I’d be a little less disappointed in Minnesotas primary’s if they used the repeating star on the graphics they’ve been putting out on it as a whole pattern. It really would’ve looked a little more interesting than faint pinstripes

    Also isn't it "Presidents' Day"?

I will say it looks really nice & sharp. But it isn't the best they've looked.  The wing kits are probably the best look they;ve had. I have the 2018 striped kit and that's a personal favorite to me. But the black isn't the best in MLS history for them.

For me the only thing the black is better than are the 2 white kits. This is the black version of the white kit. No personality to it and nothing about it says Minnesota United to me.
