  1. Goose Gossage 1994 strike shortened season with the Mariners.
  2. Top-three in the league in my books. I really like them. They're way way better than the mess they wore when Lebron played there. The inconsistencies in that uniform and how they translated to the replicas as well as having to see thousands of Cleveland kids on the college campus I was on wear those badly botched replicas irritated me to no end.
  3. I'm not one of these hockey fans that has a vendetta against the warm weather NHL cities (except Glendale), but I'm kinda rooting for an ice disaster in the LA outdoor game that renders the game unplayable so we don't have to worry about any more warm weather outdoor games. Anybody up for sabotaging the Chavez Ravine game?
  4. Canal Park is a great place to watch a baseball game. I've been to probably 15 games there. (Because it was one of the only things to do in Akron summers visiting my grandparents). Rubber makes sense for Akron, but the ducks part is so dumb it's beyond reproach. Twas probably best just to leave the Aeros name alone and rebrand with new colors and logos instead of reinventing yourself with this silliness.
  5. I like the shorts, but I have yet to see a sleeved basketball jersey that looks good. Plus, they look like they're wearing women's Louisiana Tech throwbacks.
  6. http://www.cavemag.com/my-year-as-a-florida-panthers-season-ticket-holder/ Great story about a guy in Vancouver who became a Florida Panthers season ticket holder last season. Must read.
  7. The g stands for greatness not greenbayThe Packers' Assistant Director of PR and Corporate Communications had the following to say: "There’s nothing in our history that suggests there's any truth to this. The Packers Hall of Fame archivist said the same thing."
  8. Those weren't really matte. They were more textured. I've been saying this since the first time I saw a matte helmet on a sports team, which I think was Japanese baseball in the first World Baseball Classic. Not one has ever looked good. Not one has ever looked better than it otherwise would have with a gloss finish. I can't wait until they're no longer "kewl" and every college football team doesn't feel the need to have a matte alternate. I thought the Vikings looked okay, but that helmet was far better when it was glossy. The problems they're having with the color discrepancies between the helmets and jerseys is another reason they shoulda stuck with the same lids they've been using.
  9. I preferred this helmet to the more regular single white stripe helmet.
  10. Uniformity, and it's safer for the players. Added mass = greater moment = more probable incidence of injury. Uniformity, and it's safer for the players. Added mass = greater moment = more probable incidence of injury. Plus reduced visibility makes things more dangerous in a sport that fast where your reaction time is so small. As a player I have no idea why you want to make it more difficult to see what's happening in front of you.
  11. I liked that set as well when worn as shown. The problem with that set was that they had a winning streak while wearing the black underneath the home set and started wearing it all the time. The black under the home was a bad look. Actually that set was best with the red sleeves under both. They never once wore the red sleeves under the road grays. They sold gray replica jerseys with red sleeves, which leads me to believe that it was the original intention to be the primary road look, but to my knowledge they were never actually worn that way on the road. Another clue that this may have been the original plan was the black stripes around the vest's sleeve holes that became unnecessary when worn with a black undershirt. I sorta liked the black hats and sleeves at home during the 99 season because it so perfectly fit the feeling and style of that team, but by the following season I was ready for them to go back to being a primary red team In fact, they opened the 2000 season (the first year with Griffey) in red shirts and hats Starting that year and for a little while after they randomly paired the black undershirts with the red hats and helmets and that looked far worse than when worn with the black hats. It looked especially dooftacular when worn with high pants. When they moved into GABP they were fully red sleeves and hats at home, black sleeves and hats on the road, except for the 2006 All-Star game when for some reason Bronson Arroyo and Jerry Narron wore black sleeves with red hats. This is one of many reasons I was glad they moved to their current uniforms in 2007.
  12. I loved those. I don't know why shoulder logos get so much disdain around these parts.
  13. There's probably far more notable examples, but Ryan Madson with the Reds comes to mind. injured his arm before spring training games and had to have Tommy John surgery.
  14. wow good find., Think he only played like 5 or 6 games with ATL and then packed it in for good that year. In keeping with the theme, these still seems odd This looks weird as well. He only wore these uniforms for 45 games during the lockout shortened 94-95 season.
  15. I sat in the front row last year in the shoot twice end and had the pleasure of watching up close as Mike Smith pulled off the very difficult shutout/shootout loss. He was visibly angry with his teammates. It was glorious.
  16. Eight years. Because it. It's happening for sure. It's only been 6 months and already Mike Smith (MIKE SMITH!?!?) got a 6 year, 34 million dollar deal from the league owned team that doesn't have any money. It's gonna get even worse in two days when free agency opens. This is just year 1 too. Imagine what salaries will look like in 7 years.
  17. Because there isn't, they can't, and yes, they are. Furthermore, the NHL would never approve that sale. As reported in the Bettman book, when the Oilers (I believe) were in peril, there was an offer from this conglomerate group of townsfolk dumping hats full of money onto the kitchen table. Bettman wouldn't allow that ownership group because he wanted there to be a solid majority owner. That was the Jets and the Spirit of Manitoba group, which he struck down as part of a long chain of goalpost-moving on Winnipeg. Edmonton had a similar patchwork of owners step up to buy the team from Pocklington, but he let them buy the team. Daryl Katz eventually took full control of the team from that group, however. And no, the NHL cannot and should not have a Packers deal. Hockey fandom plus "tra-la-la-la-la, I own stock in the team" would be such a critical mass of sanctimony that it would destroy the entirety of western civilization. "I'm not paying Nick Schultz 3.5 million a year to be -13! BOOOO you suck Schultz. I pay your overpriced salary ya bum!" - some ahole with one share in the last row of the upperbowl* *this took some research
  18. Close. I'm actually Gary Bettman. This thread has been an interesting read. We're doing all that we can to come to a solution to keep the Coyotes in the Phoenix market while keeping all of our franchises happy and healthy. Now how about these terrific Stanley Cup Finals we're seeing?
