  1. I've been wondering what would happen with the NFL 100 logo, now that the playoffs logos are going on the fields (or if the playoff logos would be modified somehow). Here's a recent shot from Houston: So we know regular playoff logos are going on the fields. It'll be interesting to see if the NFL 100 logos will also be on the fields. Possibly two playoff logos, and two NFL 100 logos, all on the 25 yard lines. Maybe no NFL 100 logos at all? (Which I think would be odd). Anyways, if anyone knows some good sources of pictures for this weekends playoffs fields, that'd be great, and I'll get started on putting those fields together. EDIT: A better picture in Houston, but it looks like there is tarp covering the other side of the field where the NFL 100 logo would go. EDIT: Here's New England. Again, the image is not scaled out enough to see more than just the playoff logo
  2. Here are the Rams week 17 field, and the 1951 NFL Championship game next to each other: The big difference is the colors in the endzones. In 1951, the Rams used chalk to line the field, and fill the endzones. As far as I can tell (unless I can get a color photo, or a news paper reference) the diamonds were white (I determined this by comparing the gold of the Rams uniforms to the chalk color in the diamonds in black and white images). The chalk lines in the endzone in 1951 were thinner than the paint lines in 2019. Only other minor differences are the diamond heights. The endzone in 1951 would have had 4 more inches of room at the front, becuase the goal line was 4 inches thick, as opposed to 8 inches today. Plus, in the 1951 game, the chalk went all the way to the borders of the endzones, where as in week 17, the white paint did not touch the white of the endzone boundaries (to avoid having white inbounds paint from touching white out of bounds paint).
  3. 1951 NFL Championship Game Cleveland Browns - 17 at Los Angeles Rams - 24 This would be the field that the Rams modeled their week 17 field after. It was the only NFL Championship which the Rams won in the Coliseum (they the 1949 and 1955 games in LA ). As far as I can tell, the endzones were not chalked, other than the white diamonds, which were a bit lighter than the rest of the chalk, as it was spread out more to coder the diamond.
  4. Was watching this video today, and at the 1:57 mark, you can see a blue outline at the edge of the field. In some other images, it looks to be that this outline was around the entire field. Better look here: I've added the blue outline around the field. It's a minor detail, but the field is more correct now.
  5. Kind of did these in a rush, since I'm short on time right now, but they turned out okay. I did some extra endzones that I thought might make more sense for the teams, but here's what I got: Certainly makes for more color, but some of these endzones would just look off. Better to contrast the endzones with the helmets though, then use the same endzone and helmet color, like the Eagles had for Super Bowl XXXIX. A black endzone for the Eagles is much better with a green helmet.
  6. Okay, after some research, the endzone design was inspired by the 1951 NFL Championship game. From what I can tell, the '51 Championship game endzones were not painted blue, but a color photo, if one exists, would be nice to see. Either way, the '51 Championship game field is one I'll have to get around to doing in the near future.
  7. I'd love to do these; do you have a good modern helmet template? I have a good modern helmet from the GUD template But I think it has too much detail for an endzone helmet. In the meantime I could try some retro style endzones.
  8. It could be the style of an old field design they had when the Rams moved to the Coliseum originally in 1946. The Rams used to have big white diamonds, but I don't know about any smaller diamonds. I'll do some digging and see what I can find on some of their older fields.
  9. Possible Super Bowl LIV Endzone designs for the 2019 playoffs teams. AFC NFC I kept with the current Super Bowl endzone pattern. Team logo and wordmark only centered in the endzone. Since this Super Bowl will be played on grass, the navy endzones will be a lighter shade, as in Super Bowl XLIX. So I used the same navy shade I have from that Super Bowl for the Patriots and Seahawks. For the Texans I used the navy shade they had when their field was grass. For the Titans I used the shade of navy they use on their home field. For all teams that play on grass, I matched the color shades from their home fields. For the Saints, I matched their endzone colors and logos from Super Bowl XLIX, also in Miami. I believe the Titans would use a navy endzone, as that would match their home field endzone look most closely. Given that the 49ers have been using the throwback wordmark the past two seasons, I could see them using it in the Super Bowl. Given last years game, with the Rams having their throwback endzone, I can see the NFL allowing this for the 49ers. The one difference I can see happening this year in the endzones could be the addition of the NFL 100 logo, if the standard NFL logo is used at midfield. In that case I would think the NFL 100 logo would be at the right of the endzones, logos left, and wordmarks centered.
  10. Thanks for the logo! Rams final game at the LA Coliseum
  11. Chiefs field from this weekend. Interesting to see what they'll do for the playoffs. My guess is back to their normal field style. I'm going to need some more time for the Rams field (anyone know where I can find that midfield logo in digital form?)
  12. The good news is that the Bills and Texans play each other, the Titans and Patriots play each other, so at least two blue endzones will be eliminated. The Seahawks have three road games to win (most likely) if they want to go to the Super Bowl, so hard to see them make it, but really, the NFC is wide open. The AFC winners this weekend will both have road games in the divisional round, so I'm rooting for home teams that round to eliminate all blue endzones. I'll have to get some team endzones made up, now that the playoff teams are set.
  13. Good question. First off, I'd have to eliminate teams who are primarily Navy blue with a mainly white wordmark (we've seen it so many times, and it's worn out at this point). So Seattle would be out, and Dallas (if they make it) would be out. The Bills blue is a bit nicer, and would look good on grass, but they'd have to get paired up with the 49ers to really look good on a Super Bowl field. If the Titans (if they make the playoffs, which I think they have a good shot), go with a Navy endzone, I don't think they'd match up well with anyone. On the other-hand, if they went Columbia blue, as they did in Super Bowl XXXIV, then that would be a good look, but I don't think that would be the best look we could get. As for the rest, let's walk through the colors: Confirmed playoff teams: Baltimore - Purple New England - Navy Kansas City - Red Buffalo - Blue Seattle - Navy Green Bay - Green New Orleans - Gold San Francisco - Red Possible playoff teams: Houston - Navy Pittsburgh - Athletic gold Tennessee - Likely Navy Dallas - Navy Philadelphia - Midnight Green Minnesota - Purple Of course, as a biased Steelers fan, I think athletic gold goes great against any endzone color, except athletic gold. But I think my personal favorite endzone matchup would be purple vs red. We've seen this with Ravens vs 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII and it was a great endzone matchup. If the 49ers would use their throwback wordmark, as they have been the past two seasons for home games, that would be the best case scenario. A 49ers Ravens matchup is one of the more likely scenarios for this season as well. Chiefs-Vikings would also look good, using both red and purple, but the wordmarks themselves I don't think are as good as Ravens-49ers. If Green Bay, or New Orleans were in the Super Bowl, I think they would match up well with other teams. Green Bay would be better against lighter colored endzone team, like Kansas City. New Orleans I think would match up well against a darker endzone, like Baltimore. A purple vs purple endzone matchup, or a red vs red endzone matchup would be a first (we've seen red vs orange 4 times, which is kind of close). Those would be interesting matchups, but I prefer contrasting endzones better. For now, I'm going with Baltimore vs San Francisco as best endzone matchup (especially if the 49ers use their classic wordmark). Usually, once the season ends, I create the endzones for each team for the Super Bowl Field Database thread, so it'll be easier to make choices when there are actual endzones designs to compare.
  14. Maybe there was a different game where they alternated yellow and red on the arrows. I haven't seen anything to suggest that at this point though, so I'll stick with my current field for '73. Thanks for the references. I'll have to update the '72 field then. Should be an easy update.
  15. Do you have some references? I'll have to make some updates
  16. They actually may have had them in 1972, at least by my research. The first team with the directional arrows. The grounds crew at Arrow Head was also in charge of the Super Bowls for years, and in Super Bowl XII (1977 season) the same style of directional arrows made it on the Super Bowl field for the first time: Directional arrows were required by rule the following season, in 1978.
  17. A couple of Los Angeles teams, to get me caught up on all the 2019 fields NFL International Series Mexico 2019 Chiefs vs Chargers I'm hoping to see more well painted fields from Mexico in the future. Not sure which teams will be next in line for playing international games as the home teams, since most teams with stadium troubles will have new stadiums by next year. The Jaguars already give up a home game to London. I believe the Chiefs will not have the oldest stadium in the league without any major renovations. The Chargers may still be a good candidate, since they have few fans in LA. LA Rams Week 14 The Rams came out with a new look. I think this is a product of new turf, and not being able to paint the entire endzones, or just not wanting to. I'm more of a fan of the fully painted endzones, but this isn't too bad.
  18. This year, many of the front runner teams have helmets contrasting their primary color, which could help the cause: AFC: Baltimore (Purple) - Black helmet New England (Navy) - Silver helmet Houston (Navy) - Navy helmet , so red endzone to contrast Chiefs (Red) - Red helmet, so gold endzone to contrast (what they've done in both Super Bowl appearances) Bills (Blue) - White helmet Steelers (Gold) - Black helmet NFC: Saints (Gold) - Black helmet Seahawks (Navy) - Navy helmet , so silver endzone Packers (Green) - Gold helmet Cowboys (Navy) - Silver helmet 49ers (Red) - Gold helmet Vikings (Purple) - Purple helmet , so gold endzone (which they've done in 3 Super Bowls) The Texans and Vikings would probably be the most out of place. The Seahawks for a time did use silver endzones on their home field, but they would not match their current look well. The Chiefs went with a gold endzone earlier this year, so that wouldn't seem too off.
  19. From what I remember from last years Super Bowl, the NFL has its own crew, that does the Super Bowl each year. The home crew helps out, but the NFL is in charge of the design decisions, to a certain extent. When it comes to the endzones, they do allow the teams playing to approve the final endzone designs. Last year the Rams wanted to go with the helmet and gold text to match their uniforms, but the overall endzone layout, of a logo and wordmark was all that was going to be in the endzone (along with a ton of empty space).
  20. I'm really hoping some of these teams decide to mix and match their pants and jerseys. I'm seeing a lot of mono-colored uniforms right now. Red over white would be a better look for the Defenders than red over red for their home uniforms. Tampa going white over green would be a neat look. Black over white for Dallas might be an improvement. Grey pants at home for New York would also be an improvement for them. Seems though like the jerseys and pants for the mono-colored teams were meant to be worn together. Those Roughnecks helmets are also pretty sweet by the way. Best helmet in the league so far.
  21. Finally got around to the Falcons field from Thanksgiving, and was also able to do the Dolphins field from this weekend (very similar to their throwback field from last year) Falcons Dolphins I gotta say, these throwback field designs are one of the best trends sparking up in the NFL right now.
  22. $125 is about the going rate. I recall the authentic AAF game balls were also about $125. Official NFL game balls for this year are $120 on NFL shop (these include team logos, as on the field for each team), and $100 from Wilson for balls without team logos.
  23. Field for tonight's game: A very unique field design for the Chargers in their history. Both the retro styled logo, and the classic bolt logo. What seems to be a simplistic sans-serif font used in the endzones. Not sure if this font resembles anything the Chargers have used in the past. The International fields seem to all use the same template when it comes to numbers. Gaps in all the 0s and 4s (Baltimore uses the same number pattern). Interesting that the soccer markings midfield are not centered at midfield like the NFL logo. Beautiful looking field overall. I just moved, so probably won't get this in a digital format for a week or so, but the good thing is with current fields, there's always plenty of pictures and video to see the fields.
  24. 49ers vs Cardinals October 2, 2005, Mexico City, Mexico The first regular season International game.
  25. I was able to get the image to work as a gif: Which opens the possibility of showing the accumulation of now on fields over the course of a game, or the yard markers being cleared of snow. I know @SFCOM1 did the Fog Bowl field, so this could be a good way of showing the fog roll in. I'm going to try that out and update this post if I can get it to look good. *** EDIT *** Fog Bowl gif (credit to @SFCOM1 for the field images)
