  1. You can't force rivalry. Look at USF-UCF for a perfect example. The Knight fans vehemently hate the Bulls, yet the Bull fans could care less after beating them 4 straight years (3 of them in steamrolling defeats).
  2. I'm surprised ECU is so low on the wish list. They actually fit geographically and the last 5 years have had a strong bowl presence. Did I interpret this as Memphis being a backup for football only? That would be nuts. Not necessarily. Nothing's been said about the status of the backup's invites. For all we know, a backup could be invited across the board.
  3. A local Tampa sports radio station had a writer from the Washington Examiner on this morning and here is the summary with a link to the interview: http://www.620wdae.com/pages/usf.html?article=9319523 Essentially: - Big East to invite UCF, Houston, and SMU for all sports with Boise, Air Force, and Navy for football only. - Air Force and Navy will try to lobby Army to join as #12 - Should Army decline, backups are Temple, Memphis, and ECU - He also said USF is a slight possibility for the Big 12 if they decide to go to 12 schools.
  4. Especially from the Airport. From KPIT to the WVU campus is maybe 45mins tops. Which is what I thought. Morgantown is no different than any of the cites I named earlier.
  5. Technically it is in the sense of Big 12 Country. But what I fail to understand is that how much more isolated (in the sense of middle of nowhere) is Morgantown compared to College Station (TX), Lawrence and Manhattan (KS), and even his own Stillwater, OK?
  6. Kinda on topic, but read this story about a 16-team playoff for college football that Mountain West commish Crag Thompson has thought up. Not a bad plan if you ask me, and it estimates to TRIPLE current BCS revenues. http://thebiglead.com/index.php/2011/10/20/the-mountain-wests-16-team-playoff-plan-to-replace-the-bcs-might-have-some-legs/
  7. One problem that isn't regularly published is that the city of St Pete will not allow the Rays to even sniff a new venue of any kind outside of city limits. This means that even if the city of Tampa (proper) or any other option has a plan, they really can't go public without roughing the seas. I have heard of a few possibilities on the Tampa side of the bay, but most are skittish to interfere before the Rays get permission.
  8. As a USF fan, I am beginning to be concerned with our position in this realignment. No shot at SEC (UF), ACC (Miami & FSU), or B10 (not prestigious enough). The Big 12 would be our best case scenario. Geographically it's odd, but we are the only Florida team, in a recruiting hotbed, that's available. I'm surely hoping the silence of USF in rumors/reports tells me something is up. Otherwise it's CUSA
  9. Probably in response to the owners comments following Game 4: http://www.baynews9.com/article/sports/2011/october/324235/Rays-owner-Stu-Sternberg-frustrated-by-fan-support I've also talkedwith people who think Mr Sternberg's comments lately have been used as fodder to work towards getting out of the lease with the city of St Pete This is true, I know many people that bought tix to Game 4 last Friday (time was unknown then), then had to either sell them or eat the cost over the weekend because it became a 2pm start. Curse having four games on one day
  10. They didn't draw worth . Something like 18-20 for the series... they MIGHT have sold out the last night (although I have my doubts), but not any night prior. Yes, the only sellouts the Rays officially had were Opening Day and Game 3 of the ALDS. The final 2 games of the reg season and Game 4 of the ALDS came close, but were a thousand or so short of sold out. What some of you may not realize is that in most places, the season ticket base is roughly a 65-35 split of corporate-fans. In Tampa Bay, I have heard it is the opposite, with 35% coming from corporate money and 65% from fans. This is assumed due to the venue being in St Pete, with the majority of companies being based on the other side of the bay.
  11. OK, to be fair.....to those of you who say relocate, name me some REALISTIC places that could get them. Don't just name places you WANT them to go.
  12. Is UMass still moving to the MAC for 2012? Should be, as far as I know.
  13. Army? With Cuse leaving, this shouldn't matter. St. John's anyone? Fair enough, but if they're talking football, Army should be a possibility if interested.
  14. Army? With Cuse leaving, this shouldn't matter.
  15. Reports say Dan Beebe is out as Big 12 commish: http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/21/report-dan-beebe-out-as-big-12-commissioner/related/
  16. I can pretty much say that I don't think the Big East will poach the FCS. If they want to keep their AQ and competitive level, they need to grab the best available FCS teams (in which most have been said here).
  17. Navy and Army? Can't say I wouldn't argue with that. Wouldn't mind giving the Irish an ultimatum though. Oh, and in case my quote from another forum wont suffice you, here's the ESPN story: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/6998720/commissioner-john-marinatto-says-schools-committed-big-east
  18. Big East football leadership minus Cuse and Pitt met in NYC tonight.
  19. http://outkickthecoverage.com/syracuse-and-pitt-to-the-acc-what-now.php Want some good analysis on the subject, read this.
  20. There's talk that 8-10 schools have applied the the ACC. It's possible that just Cuse and Pitt were the only leaked names.
  21. What in your opinion is his right jersey? The correct uniform is either as a Buccaneer, where he won a ring, or in a suit on ESPN. The guy was a dick in New York. I like to forget that he was ever a Jet. As a Bucs fan, Keyshawn is a Jet. Yes, he got the Bucs a ring, but he never was a Buc. He was Gruden's man crush.
  22. I don't buy anything till it's official. Usually what's said publicly is never right and what usually happens is like a blindside.
  23. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6974572/oklahoma-sooners-regents-meet-big-12-conference-affiliation-monday Monday could be D-Day...
