  1. The Penguins nickname doesn’t quite fit for Minneapolis I feel like… I mean I know it gets cold, but there’s not much connection to Penguins here. And the star you have on the Minnesota is actually over Taylor’s Falls, and not Minneapolis.

But the colors and logos overall are pretty nice. You could try the Minneapolis Loons and only make some minor tweaks to the logos. The loon is the State Bird for Minnesota.

  2. “If you build it they will come”

If the MLB could do it, the NHL could try lol. Picture the Wings vs the Hawks on the Shores of Lake Michigan surrounded by bleachers for 20,000+? Or the Jets and the Wild on Lake of the Woods. I mean if the Wild, Bally Sports North, and the Minnesota State High School league can do it once a year, who’s to say the NHL couldn’t do it bigger and better?

Corporate needs you to find the difference between this jersey (regular home) and this jersey (Reverse Retro).

I love my Senators, but my goodness guys, would it have killed you to design something that would have maybe stood out a bit more?

I didn’t quite understand the hate for the Sens RR at first, but now I totally see it. That center toga stripe hides so much. They really dropped the ball on this one…

  4. College hockey has always been one of my favorite kinds of hockey. It might help that I've been a Gophers fan my whole life, and have gone to a lot of games at Mariucci. But there's something about the rowdiness of the fans, the buzz of the whole arena, and of course all of the endless, nonsense traditions that are just so much fun. College hockey doesn't have nearly as many programs as other D1 sports, but there's a lot of fun identities, and great traditional programs to create looks for. There's teams like Denver who never change, and other teams who are brand new, and are still getting to play around with there visual identities.

But why Nike? Adidas is supposed to drop the NHL after the 23-24 season. On top of that, I've heard rumors that Adidas is just done with hockey, period. With that in mind, seeing which companies would be the best to fill that void, Nike sits atop the list. Other ones like CCM, Warrior/New Balance, and Under Armour have their fair share of teams, but in this concept thread, Nike is taking over. I will be using the Nike template from the Winter Olympics, with some slight modifications.

So here's the first team I've completed so far, the Nationally Ranked, and always a legitimate contender, the St. Cloud State University Huskies!

So I wanted to give the Huskies a new look, and to not just have Blackhawks clones for their home and road sets. The Huskies "CSt" logo is also to good to not keep on the front of the jersey for both the home and road. While the current road jersey is red, they tend to wear their black alternates quite often, and in fact the Huskies have traditionally had black as their away colored sweater, so I changed that over for the Huskies. I kept the current font, along with the huskie shoulder patch, but the new striping pattern comes from their set from the 80's.

As for the alternates, I brought back the current red road jersey, but I modified the striping pattern to be unique to the Huskies, and to deviate them from the Blackhawks. The white home alternate is based of one of their early jerseys, but I modified the script, by using the current St. Cloud mark, and giving it a drop shadow effect, and did the same to the numbers on the back of the sweater.

And Bettman has said that "he's heard from the fans and they said they like them and it is a non issue so they will be sticking around" (paraphrasing)... I'd like to know which fans he was talking to as the vast majority of people have stated that they really don't like them.

He not only said people like them, but it's made the games more watchable...... Beats me how that works 🙄

This is a community dedicated to sports aesthetics. And I just find the notion of both being into the design and aesthetics of sport and being ok with advertising creep very strange. The act of injecting ads into uniforms is itself an act that lessens the aesthetics of what we're all here to supposedly enjoy.

I haven’t seen any comments on this board suggesting anybody is OK with it. There’s a difference between rational explanations for why something exists and actually endorsing it.

I do agree with IceCap that the addition of advertisements really does take away from sports aesthetics, but what is interesting is that I have seen a few users on the boards here comment that it was weird to see an MLS club without a front advertisement. Because it no longer felt like a soccer jersey. Which is honestly scary…

If this isn’t a slippery slope argument I’m making, how long until it would seem weird for the Habs and hypothetically the Yankees to NOT have an advertisement somewhere.

  7. I love the Wild’s reverse retro as a full set so much more than the unveiling. I honestly still want something from the Wild’s own jersey history, but man does the North Stars set look fantastic. I love that they brought back the triple star breezers in green and gold from the last RR.

I also love that they fixed the socks on the green jersey. That was always a flaw of the original North Stars set, that the green socks had the yellow and white stripes spaced out, rather than touching like the sleeve stripes. So I’m very happy the Wild fixed that for this set.

  8. As a Twins fan, and someone who grew up and lives in the Twin Cities, this rebrand is a bit different as they say. I do really like the updated home jersey. But I’m super disappointed that they didn’t go with pinstripes at home. If the idea was to nail down an all time Twins aesthetic, pinstripes at home should have been the way to go. That being said, it’s a classy looking jersey, and has good elements to it.

I really like the updated TC logo, although I’ll miss the little serifs on the T that I drew a lot as a kid 😂 But it was an update that I didn’t realize the TC needed! I also don’t mind the single color script and numbers. They definitely work.

I loved the previous road jersey and wordmark, so I’m disappointed about the change, especially to road pinstripes. However, the arched Minnesota looks great, and the pinstripes are actually silver/dark grey rather than navy, so I think it looks much much better than the Metrodome era pinstripes. And the sleeve and pants striping is nice as well.

The navy alt is also fairly nice. And I like that it can be paired with both the home and the road.

The Twin Cities alternate is a little too on the nose. I also hate that it doesn’t have red. The cream and navy feels more on par for a Cubs throwback rather than the Twins. And I’m disappointed that the Minnie and Paul logo is being replaced by a flag patch.

My biggest gripe is the M cap. It’s not good at all… It feels like a social media account that covers Minnesota sports, went ahead and made a generic Minnesota sports cap logo. Like one that’s meant to be sold in all the varying team colors to represent Minnesota. But honestly it just doesn’t feel like the Twins, which is the most disappointing part. I’d much rather see it on a city connect jersey, and have it stay out of the main set.

And I understand the whole idea that the M should represent Minnesota for the Minnesota Twins, rather than a TC logo, but the TC has been a logo for the Twins since day one, and represents the franchise much much better than either of the M logos here. And on top of that, the TC logo is better designed than either of the M logos the Twins have. It’s almost like the White Sox and their Sox monogram. They could use a C for Chicago, and they have before, but the Sox works so much better and fits for the franchise. I hope that the TC logo becomes the primary for both the road fairly quickly.

Regarding your last sentence, be careful what you wish for. Seems like half the teams anymore have decided that having the entire part of the sock be white is the bee’s knees.

Yeahhhh… I’d rather see mono colored yoga pants than white yoga pants lol

When the Twins brought out their new uniforms in 1987, it was so refreshing. They got rid not only of powder blue, but also of that sloppy wordmark and the incongruous TC cap logo. (In addition, the uniforms originally had no player names at home.) I felt like a page had been turned. "What a relief!", I thought. " We'll never see that mess again." Alas, every single one of those bad design elements has crept back in, and now the Twins look almost as bad as they did in 1986. It's a tragedy.

The Twins Metrodome set is a fantastic look, and one that I’m hoping they go back to here next year. But they made the right choice in bringing back the TC logo. It’s a fantastic logo and fits well for the Twin Cities. And it’s way better than the overly 80’s M cap logo… I will die on the hill defending the TC as a great cap logo for the Twins 😜

However I do agree that seeing great looking uniforms adds to the overall experience of sports!

God I love that uniform. This team belongs in all black with pinstripes. They had a win streak this past season wearing it at home and I was hoping they'd just wear it for every game, home and away.

These feel like an actual pinstriped suit and so they look fantastic!

I like it, gets rid of the pointless spikes and puts the logo in a box, kind of like the classic logo.

They’ve had the old one in a box on various applications as well. The whole “All Out” branding has typically featured the logo in a red box. It definitely is a throwback to the old logo!!

  12. It feels like it belongs on a vintage flannel-type hat. I definitely don’t hate it, but it doesn’t have the same weight as the current mark. The serifs being rounded and cleaned up make it feel much lighter, and not in a good way. But I’m happy that it essentially looks the same, and likely means that their going with a 60’s look for the new set.

  13. They changed this past summer, with their update of the Super Tacks line and JetSpeed stick. The choice to round off the corners where the serifs used to be is odd… If those had been square I feel like the logo would have been much better.

  14. Using the Gemini to refer to the Twin Cities is very much an outsider thing. The only place I’ve seen that happen is here on the boards, from people who don’t live or have lived in the Twin Cities. I understand the whole “Twins” connection, but it honestly feels incredibly random, and I would be very disappointed if that’s the direction the Twins are going. I wouldn’t be apposed to an M and Star logo added to the rotation, but as long as it doesn’t replace the TC logo. That logo should never leave the Twins caps ever again.

And for the love of Pete, please ditch the kasoka gold 🙄

  15. There’s a lot that goes into the color blocking of each sport. Tradition is a huge one, but things change over time. A lot of really early basketball uniforms were different colored tops from the shorts, with some sets having the top be different for a “road” jersey. Baseball had lots of what we now call monochrome, non-grey looks, usually all navy or black, before white at home and grey on the road became the standard.

Hockey is very unique, because the gear color evolved a little after the jersey style evolved, because into the 40’s breezers were canvas, and gloves were leather into the 50’s and 60’s. Typically teams pick breezer colors based on what color they want to emphasize more. Teams very easily could have picked any color they wanted for their breezers. The Habs randomly picked blue, but it works. And the Rangers picked red.

The general idea behind breezer colors is to use the darkest color, like the Habs or Blackhawks. The base of the jersey, like the Hurricanes, or a third color that works with both, like the Avalanche, who use their steel blue color. But usually teams avoid white breezers. They get too easily marked by the puck and sticks, and generally don’t look so great. Teams have tried it, but it’s usually a flop for one reason or another. Gloves are similar, however white gloves are becoming more and more popular, because of the Golden knights really pushing them.

  16. I would be a little hesitant to say where the Sabres are actually at right now. Or anyone for that matter.

The Sabres looked like they were breaking out of the slump a couple of years ago too, until it all came crashing down on the back half of the year. Same for the Ducks last year. Two weeks into the season isn’t going to define where clubs are really headed. Can you get an idea? Sure. But there’s still WAYYYY to many games left to be played.

The Wild definitely had that problem until Adidas took over. The Red home, green alt, and both white roads all felt very distinct. But now I think that the Wild have a really good set that work well with each other. The striping is the same on the arms and socks, and finally uses the primary logo front and center on both.

  18. I feel like the Canucks are going to have to add left sleeve numbers. Broadcasters might have a hard time with that, even if they have the numbers on the left chest. I actually do like that look, because it adds to the 60’s-ness to the design, but I would imagine they’ll have to add left numbers anyways.
