  1. I dunno, I don't think we're gonna get to the 16-team super-dee-duper conference end-game just yet I think for now the SEC sticks with 14, Big XII gets Florida State and Clemson to get back up to 12, perhaps a third ACC school and.. I dunno, Cincy or Louisville for 14, the ACC responds to getting raided by taking in Rutgers, USF, and ...well I dunno if UConn can get in with their history with BC but let's just say they bury the hatchet for the time being for the sake of keeping the ACC afloat. Then basically everyone waits on Notre Dame. Endgame adverted for the next 9 months before things start getting wacky again. As I joked about on EDSBS last night, the conference realignment will get to the point where Johns Hopkins magically becomes D-1 everything, the Ivy League adds them to the conference, Quint Kessenich complains about it for a week on Inside Lacrosse, and NYU, MIT, and the U of Chicago form their own ironic, hipster basketball conference somehow in the D-1 level. Then realignment would have been completed and a done deal YES DWFABEL I KNOW THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE
  2. This is gonna be a stupid question, but what value does NC State bring to any conference expansion, really? Their football hasn't been that good and the rest of their athletic program's mediocre, plus they aren't making that much money from what I understand, so it's not like there's that much to gain by adding them. I mean I guess there's the research triangle deal with them, but wouldn't that make UNC and Duke way more valuable?
  3. In the latest edition of "Absolutely nothing's going right in the Islanders' quest to get a new arena", NYC announced their plans for developing Willets Point. It includes a huge mall and parking garages. There's nothing about an arena included. Which probably means Wang didn't get involved in the process. Oh. Joy.
  4. So with this whole new championship deal looking more and more like a Pac 12/B10 vs. SEC/B12 affair, doesn't that basically render the rest of D-1 college football useless? You think eventually the other 7 conferences would consider forming a second subdivision or something like that if it's going to be even more impossible to make this playoff than it would be to make a BCS bowl? Yes I understand this championship game is if the teams aren't going to be in the playoff, but you get what I mean. I mean, granted Syracuse's bread and butter is basketball and lacrosse, and the ACC's bread and butter is basketball and lacrosse, and even with the likelihood of FSU bolting is more and more likely it's still not as dire as the Big East, so I don't care that much considering we're never gonna contend for a national title these days anyway, but...
  5. What I'm interested in, if FSU bolts, does the ACC stick with the 14 or go back down to 12 if they let Clemson walk? I would guess Rutgers or USF would be next up for a raid in the event it's just FSU leaving to bring it back to 14
  6. FS Arizona isn't even airing Game 2. Coyotes fans have to watch NBCSN, which is carrying the CSN Chicago feed. El oh el.
  7. With their newest uniform update, did the Mets remove the drop shawdow from the retired numbers on the wall? Couldn't find a clear picture, but this photo suggests no. I haven't really noticed while watching the games. Maybe someone else can confirm. While on the topic of Citi, I've been looking for the championship banners all weekend. Where did they move them to? EDIT: Never mind, saw they have them up on the 3rd base line between levels now
  8. Oh God... ..Welp, back to the drawing board for the umpteenth straight time I guess
  9. Actually, you know what, screw it. This song could've been used the past 75 other times...
  10. This Coliseum asbestos deal looks like another step towards (or please don't sacrifice the Islanders for the sake of keeping the :censored:ing Coyotes in Phoenix)
  11. Temple's officially in the Big East for next season. I'm actually kinda surprised they welcomed the Big East back after getting the boot back in 2004, but at least it solves a lot of scheduling problems for next season
  12. I was watching the Hurricanes-Capitals game last night and it kinda brought back an unpopular opinion I have This is my favorite Canes jersey. I know the flag's wrong (it's a Tropical Storm Warning and not a Hurricane) and I know the primary logo should be colored on the shoulders instead of black, but there's something about these that I love about them
  13. There are some further down that are crucifying Wang because they think the team not winning is why the Nassau politicians don't care. But yeah, the first 50-100 comments are on Wang's side. Of course, I remember seeing somewhere that the Barclays Center is not a long term option because of 1. Sightlines and 2. Bettman saying that it was far too small for NHL standards. But I can't find links to those, so... Well, Islander fans are insane. It's probably the only fanbase where the HFBoard for the team reflects the fanbase in general But yeah, they really have to get something done soon. I'd be cool with Brooklyn even with the smaller capacity because it keeps the team in the area. As long as they don't leave the NYC area (or even Hartford) I'm fine. If they leave... well, I'm too big of a hockey fan to stop following the sport and will probably switch to the Devils if that happens. That's one of the problems, though. There's many Islander fans who will easily do that (or just in general root for the Rangers), so moving the team becomes that much easier. Then again, there were Islander fans I personally know who said that they'd move out of Long Island to wherever the team moves after the August 1st vote failed... including Quebec.
  14. Apparently WVU is about to be able to leave the Big East next season. That means the Big East will have 7 teams next year and, should everyone stay put for at least another year without the ACC getting their duo... .....we're getting Syracuse-Rutgers twice next season
  15. Sure, the weakest franchise that nobody wants to own stays put... Because this is TGDNHL
  16. I'm fine with the Pittsburgh Steelers' numbers on their jerseys. I know the history behind the block numbers and everything, but they've got a unique look going on with the numbers they have.
  17. What? Occam's Razor, you retard. Greg Jamison has nothing to do with this, considering that no one has ever heard from Greg Jamison himself regarding such a transaction; it has only been attributed to him because some talk radio chucklehead in Phoenix misspelled the Canadian guy's name. Also, the talk about Jamison "going to Europe to find investors" aligns with this scam. I'm amused by the fact that Sharks Guy never bothered to categorically deny that he was buying the Coyotes. Too polite? Can we please please please start a "Worst of HFBoards" thread. I feel like the two of us and at least two others here find at least one terrible thing we find on it and share it here
  18. -The Islanders and Mets fandom runs in the family, plus they're both Long Island (ok Queens is on geographic Long Island but not part of regional Long Island) -Root for the Jets because they're a New York team and that's who I began to root for once my family moved back to Long Island (I was originally from New Hampshire but my parents were on the island before then). All of my mom's side of the family roots for the Giants, plus I've always liked them when watching NFC games, so they're my #2 -Syracuse for all college sports because I go there, in addition to being a big fan of them. Exceptions are Cornell for hockey due to a lack of men's hockey team at SU and any teams I've got friends on, though for the most part they're #2 behind SU in those cases. -I'm a casual NBA guy, though I always was a Net fan. With the direction the Knicks are going, as well as the fact Carmelo Anthony's my favorite player due to Syracuse connections, I'm also rooting for them. Thus the reason for my sig
  19. I said this before... If the Islanders move to Hartford, all things considered with the other possibilities, it wouldn't be the end of the world to me. I'd much rather have them move 2 and a half hours away and become the Whalers than to move to Kansas City/Houston/Quebec/Whathaveyou and lose them for good if you catch my drift. Plus as njmeadowlanders pointed out, having them on SNY would more than likely keep them on local TV anyway. Only difference for me would be cutting down trips to games to probably one a year as they would be 2 and a half hours away from me rather than 10 minutes up Hempstead Turnpike. Obviously it's not the best scenario as an Islander fan, but considering the other options, I'd still be able to root for them if they simply go to Hartford. Is it likely to happen? No. But stranger things have happened. Like the Coyotes still being in Phoenix in 2012 while Winnipeg got the Jets back
  20. Here's my position on the Big East in a couple of points 1. The Big East had the opportunity to be proactive, but sat on their hands when everything was blowing up. 2. It's not so much the Big East going after mid-majors as much as the Big East going after schools on the West Coast. If they got Temple back in or got Villanova to move up or added the service academies, that would be fine. It fits the geographic footprint. Adding San Diego freakin' State, however does not. 2A. Syracuse and Pitt do so fit the ACC. Last time I checked UVA and VT are pretty far inland. I also don't think of Atlanta being an "Atlantic" city. The way I see it, the new ACC will kinda be like the Big East of old combined with the original ACC with Cuse, Pitt, BC, Miami, and VT all on board. Should we get to the 16-team conference endgame (I hope not), then adding Rutgers and UConn basically gives you the entire Big East circa 2002 plus one. 3. The Big East cared too much about the 8 schools that played basketball and not the 8 that also have football. That drove a lot of the poor decision making that the conference made. Look, I love Big East hoops as much as any other person in the northeast. The problem is that the Big East didn't adapt to the changes that were occurring, and now they're left to scramble by adding schools that are absolutely nowhere near where the base of the conference is. At least in the Pac 12's case, Colorado and Utah have borders with Arizona, who's got 2 schools in the conference. In the Big 10's case they just added one school and doesn't throw off things too much. Even with Pittsburgh and Syracuse, they help compliment BC in the northeast like the old Big East. The Big East's plan? Not even close to the radar. They're literally going in a diagonal line from the east coast at Providence, RI to the west coast at San Diego, CA. By no means does that sound reasonable in terms of having a collegiate athletic conference (yes I know the whole Louisiana Tech situation in the WAC, but save for Hawaii in the conference even that's not as ridiculous as the Big East is proposing). Though I'm with you, I'm waiting for all the movement to stop and things to begin to settle in the college sports landscape.
  21. Nothing says Big East like the southwestern-most city in the United States being represented in the conference! Thank goodness we're getting out of that clown car...
  22. Eh, if the Islanders were to move (besides Brooklyn/Queens), Hartford would be where I'd want them to go for the sake of them still kinda being in the area. Plus as said before, since the Whalers moved it's been entrenched as a Rangers/Bruins territory. We'll see where things go from here I guess
  23. Wow, the uhh Coyotes actually got McCain to come to the game. That's gotta be... impressive I guess
