If CBS does unveil a new graphics package for the Super Bowl, I expect to see something "shinier". For some years now, we've seen sports graphics become simpler and flatter. Compare FOX graphics from 15 years ago to this season and you'll see a monumental difference. However, NBC bucked the trend last year with their new package featuring gradients and shadowing galore. I believe that this will be the first in a trend back in the direction of fancier scorebugs. If CBS does make this change, then I think we will be seeing changes in that direction all throughout the world of sports.

I have a good feeling that is going to be happening. All of the Super Bowl shows on CBSSN have been using graphics very similar to NBC’s New Graphics.

Like this example, or this one.

The voiceover on that disclaimer reminds me of Ian Eagle. Could be wrong.

Yeah. 99% sure that is Ian Eagle.

That’s what it sounds like!  That’s what the College Football Playoff does and the Power 5 conference championship games.  Takes the end zone design of each team’s home field and replicates it.  Stupid and non-creative.  Only time you get something different is when a team has no end zone design like Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl or Pitt in the ACC Championship.  Team owners don’t give a crap about the field and will approve just about anything.  They should have no say.

Let’s just cut to the chase.  Super Bowl end zones should be dueling helmets with the background color the opposite team color of the helmet.  Team word mark in between.  Team helmet on the left and helmet with conference logo on it on the right.  NFC logo should be a lighter shade of blue than the NFL logo.  I’d be OK with a large conference logo replacing the right helmet as a compromise to get the rest of this.

Each Super Bowl logo should be unique and different and designed by the host committee.  Placed at the 35 yard lines so that the ball is placed on top of them for kickoffs.

the 20s and the conversion hash marks as well as the yard line numerals  (G, 10, 20, 30, 40) should be outlined/highlighted in respective team colors.  50 yard line is outlined in red and blue as are the “50”s.

NFL logo sits perfectly between the 45s and while we’re at it the font of the “N” “F” “L” should go back to the previous version of the font pre-2008.  Ok to keep the 4 stars though.

Done.  I’ll supervise this all for free as well!

side note—I think the classic Jets end zone, should they have made it to Super Bowl XVII, would have been white background with a black outline to mark the goal line and out of bounds.  I know there’s now some rule against white end zones but the league used to be so consistent that I think this is what would have been done.

So similar to these concepts that @pitt6pack recently made but with the Old NFL Logo and outlined Numerals?

One other thing on the endzone design. Ed did say the designs by NFL creative are close to what the team uses during the season. That actually would explain a theory that I thought was the case in Super Bowl XLVIII (48) and XLIX (49.)

You mean with the Seahawks End Zone causing the Messed-Up Conference Logo sides?

This thread is one of my all-time favorites and I love all of the responses.

I’m a member of the media covering the Super Bowl and will get a chance tomorrow to check out the field and interview those in charge of setting up the field and stadium for the game. I’m hoping to do an interview with those in charge and would be willing to ask some questions that you may have. I have my own but could have some room if there is anything anyone wanted to know.

I’m for surely asking about the endzone design and colors, and will also ask about filed/turf prep, etc. Pass along any you think could be interesting.

It’s such a cool topic that I think we can find out some interesting information from those in the know. Thanks!!

    I have 2 questions

    1. Why have they stopped using AFC/NFC Conference Logos in the End Zones since 2016? There is enology space to do so?

    2. Why not put a Helmet in the Patriots End Zone to match the Rams and for a Throwback Touch?

    3. Why not have the Rams End Zone be Athletic Gold to contrast with the helmet like Super Bowl XIV?

If it does somehow in the future become the NFL Championship, as they keep phasing out the AFC/NFC, then just do it NCAA Tournament style. Seed all playoffs teams, 1 through 12, Conferences be damned.

Ugghhhhh....stupid NFL. Who makes these decisions? Why do they make them?? No more helmets, no more conference logos, whats next?? No paint/color on the field at all??!!!

Seems like the NFL  has moved to some lazy, boring, ugly template for the SB fields. And there is no explanation for it.

I miss my youth. Those SB fields were gorgeous compared to the crap thats been put out the past 4 or 5 years.

    //end rant..

Even though they just recently switched back to the AFC-NFC Pro Bowl Format after not being so from the 2013-2016 Seasons...

Some requests. Could you do Rams-Cheifs with the Rams Throwback Colors with the above Wordmark, the 16-17 End Zone Wordmark, and with the "Official" Wordmark in present day colors similar to this Thumbnail? And with the Chiefs Helmet Logo rather than Primary Logo on all of them to match the Rams.

Which template are you referring to? I'm not sure I'm familiar with it.

Do you have a template in mind? Is it anything like what the Dolphins used in week 16 or what was used for some of the past Super Bowls, XXXVIII and XXXIX?

The template from the Super Bowls, Helmet, and conference logo without a helmet. But using the 3D perspective helmets. (Excuse the amount of images. Just wanted to show all of them):

(And could the Rams use the word mark that was in their End Zone last year or the St. Louis one rather than the plain wordmark they use in the one above and currently?)

At least in the past the duel helmet endzones, helped force more color into the endzones.

One more set of endzones for now. Duel helmet style used between Super Bowl's VIII and XXIX:

Certainly creates more color in the endzones, since the helmet and endzone colors where always made to be different in the past Super Bowls

How about with the VSR-4 helmet? That is the one that the NFL Uses in all current things involving helmets.

With the 2018 Playoff teams now set, here's what I'd expect for endzones for each of the playoff teams if they were to reach the Super Bowl. Pretty boring, and overwhelmingly blue, as usual for the past few seasons.

Looks like the Dolphins will be going with another throwback type field this Sunday ...

The picture above is from Super Bowl XIX (which now I see I made a mistake in the Dolphins helmet by excluding the coral helmet stripe).

    19.png

It would be amazing to see the dual helmets, with a coral endzone and an aqua wordmark.

Just a heads up, apparently, according to @BrandMooreArt, it will use the VSR-4 Helmet, not the old 2-Bar Facemask and Helmets.

Actually, MLS does have their own proprietary package.  You can see it on MLS Live (channel/website/media) or in FIFA '18.  They're one of the few leagues that have their signature package in the game.

Wait, really? Over the weekend, the MLS Decision Day Wipharound coverage use those graphics, even though it was ESPN produced?

(If ESPN always used those graphics, excuse me. I don't watch that much MLS)
