Even in hockey - in 2024, what exactly do the Cs and As do?  It's a legit question, because I'm not sure their role there anymore.

I was with you until you attacked the hockey patches. Wearing the C on your chest as a hockey player is woven into hockey tradition and has been part of the game forever. I agree in the other sports the captaincy seems more ceremonial than anything, but still holds importance on a hockey team.

One more for this. The Ravens added purple pants in 2018 without notice, and it's become the most popular pants for the white jerseys.

Those purple pants were originally part of the Ravens' Color Rush. That situation is more along the lines of the Eagles and Jets taking the black pants from their Color Rush uniforms and wearing them with white jerseys.

It's too late to change the jerseys, but pants can be scrapped or added at any time. The Lions and Saints both introduced solid white pants in the middle of their seasons (not sure which year the pants for either team debuted). The Falcons showed red pants on the day they unveiled their current set, but have never worn them.

To add on, the Browns didn't have orange pants in the original reveal of their current uniforms. It's since become the signature look of the current set.

I guess that's a good way to say "I prefer more throwback and fauxback jerseys over something that's meant to be designed in the future". To each it's own, I suppose.

I can see why @Morgan33 would think that the Stadium Series "drives the whole outdoor game concept into the ground." I agree that trying to design something for the future has its place, but it is a little weird that the NHL has made outdoor games that place. The original point of outdoor games is to celebrate hockey's origins, where games took place on frozen ponds. There's a heavy traditional feel to outdoor games, and throwbacks/fauxbacks translate perfectly to that vibe. When the Stadium Series introduces brash, loud, futuristic designs, it seems to run counter to the original purpose of playing games outdoors.

I'm with Morgan on this one. Futuristic design is fine, but the Stadium Series is an odd choice of an event to showcase it at. Futuristic/nontraditional uniform matchups have happened indoors as well. See: Most All-Star Games. Also, this matchup a few weeks ago between the Kings and Leafs:

And onlyi one matchup has happened in the same venue twice: PIT-DAL in the Orange Bowl. Luckily. the Orange Bowl hosted five Super Bowls. Two on grass, the third on turf (BAL-DAL) and the two PIT-DAL games back on grass.

Super Bowl X was still on turf. You can also tell X and XIII apart because both teams wore bicentennial patches in Super Bowl X.

I’ll be curious to see how this second matchup will look in comparison to the first. Both are being played on natural grass.

The Giants and Patriots are real close, but the fieldturf in matchup 2 gives it away.

The Cowboys and Bills were very easy to tell the matchups apart. One under Sunny Cali skies outdoors on grass while the other in a dank, dark dome on astroturf.

No matter what, LIV and LVIII will be immediately distinguishable from each other because the 49ers brought back their third sleeve stripe.

It's times like this where I wish the 49ers still had their black uniform. Not that the alternates/throwbacks they have will go away, but whatever.

The black jersey is a great fashion jersey for fans to purchase and wear. But wearing it on the field was one of the worst decisions in franchise history, epitomizing that dark era of 49ers football.

Depends on what you mean by "back." Those Bills haven't lost their division since. Last season their teammate died on the field. This year they were missing 7 defensive starters and lost by 3.

I know I'm being a fanboy some of these things are not like the others.

"Back" in this case means back to the conference title game. Yes, they've had some bad luck, but it just goes to show how hard it is to get back to that point, how much has to go right to reach that point.

I just want Nike to get the Saints some metallic/shiny gold pants again  that match the helmets (SF too). I’m tired of the khaki pants look.

Even if shiny pants become available again in the future, I can't see the Niners actually going for them. They've only ever experienced success in the khaki pants look (pre-1996 and since 2009).

+1.  I would have honestly preferred they just went with a Navy version of their home jersey...  It wouldn't be remotely creative but it at least it wouldn't look like hot garbage.

Honestly I wish more teams would do what the Devils did in 2014 and say screw your gimmick, we're just gonna wear a throwback in our Stadium Series game.

Rangers jersey is cream, so I don't think they will be going with a white helmet.  I don't think a team has worn a white helmet with cream as it wouldn't look very good.

I think Islanders/Rangers will both be in blue and Flyers and Devils in black.  Maybe Devils in red.  I would think they would just make an exception to the helmet rule for these types of games.

Yeah, I wasn't able to tell at first that the jersey was cream. You're probably right.

I’m no fan of the Lions’ pointless all whites, but at least it’s a cohesive look from the neck down.

I’ll take the all whites every day of the week over those dumb white socks with white pants the Eagles wore during the last Super Bowl

At least the Eagles' pants have stripes. The lack of stripes is the real reason those Lions white pants are a crime against humanity.

While not as bad as either of the black monstrosities the Islanders used years ago these Stadium Series jerseys are 🤮.  Straight trash.

This Stadium Series jersey somehow isn't even the lowest effort Islanders jersey of the last few years
