  1. The fake mesh pattern on the numbers make it gimmicky.
  2. I’m happy they’re dumping the over done flag stuff, but I wouldn’t have just gone back to the throwback uniform. It looks more like a tribute uniform than a regular look. They should used that uniform as the basis for something new, something that closely references that uniform but has a better color distribution and updates the clunky elements.
  3. The XFL uniforms are chasing a bunch of crappy trends in a tired effort to be edgy… always a recipe for bad uniforms. Especially when it’s league wide. The USFL uniforms had the advantage of being able to base the overall aesthetic on the old uniforms which gave them a huge leg up. If this was a competition for who has the better uniforms the USFL won just by avoiding monochrome garbage and having contrasting socks.
  4. That’s not a hot take. That’s an insane take.
  5. I was watching a dopey old western (colorized) when I stated thinking about how nice the colors were on the Cavalry uniforms, and how they'd make s nice football uniform...
  6. Yeah and even if they weren’t would they just say, never mind, we aren’t good enough for a new uniform? That’s dumb.
  7. Maybe. But if they’re able to sell a buttload of merch with some off the wall rebrand, then wait five years and sell a buttload of merch with a “return to the classic” why should they care?
  8. Yeah, but that's just because his brother won the Super Bowl.
  9. So, exactly when have gradients worked on a sports uniform? I’m coming up blank.
  10. I’m completely over every concept that shoe horns the Arizona state flag onto the Cardinals’ uniform.
  11. Well, technically it's a color correction.
  12. Nike does such a terrible job with UCLA style shoulder stripes, just absolutely abysmal. The frustrating part is that I have to believe there's a solution to be had, they just aren't interested in the time and effort it would take when it's so much more profitable to just plug everyone in to their existing templates. And obviously, the teams don't care enough (or probably even think about it enough) to fight them on it. And there's visual proof that it can be done. As a whole Nike's design work is well above what Under Armour puts out, but one area where UA is unarguably head and shoulders above Nike is in this type of traditional shoulder stripping... If you look at the before and after with Nike's takeover of UCLA you'd have to be one of those people who really just don't care about these things to not see what's obviously a regression in the way this style of stripping is supposed to work... Taken as a whole, Nike probably wins in the Nike vs Under Armour vs Adidas football uniform argument, but it's annoying that their status at the top of the heap has let them get lazy when it comes to things like this and their stubborn insistence on forcing teams into their per-existing color choices. They're making plenty of money. They can do better.
  13. Obviously, not a prediction, in any way. It turned out kind of fun, tho...
  14. I think the biggest issue in the Cardinals' lack of tradition is the multiple relocations. Ending up in Arizona in a modern stadium makes it hard to remember that the Chicago Cards wearing faded hand me down jerseys from the U of Chicago Maroons even existed. That said, I don't know why "simple" has to read as "traditional" necessarily.
  15. It’s nice of everyone to drop in pictures of various chrome helmets that “work”… (I’m not even going to dignify the perfection remarks). Seeing all these terrible helmets scroll by just lets me know my initial assessment was correct. 100% awful. (IMO of course)
  16. Well, the current rules state that an alternate helmet can only be worn with an alternate uniform, so I guess they have no choice. I still think it’ll be white and will be worn later with an all white uniform once the NFL’s lack of backbone waters down the rules again. It’s hard to imagine they’d go with a dark gray helmet when they’re changing the whole uniform in a year. Unless of course they plan on adding even more of that ugly dark gray color with the new look. Ugh. Nike sure does have a weird boner for ugly shades of dark gray. Which is strange because they’ve managed to make a good looking uniform from charcoal gray, anthracite, etc. exactly (let me check)… zero times.
