I think the implication is that the Bruins will be unveiling a new alternate/centennial jersey with the crest, not replacing the current one.

Actually, I believe the plan is for them to wear a new home & away centennial set just for this season. I know they're going to be honouring the 2011 Cup team during the year, so maybe we see the old Edge set for that game.

This video shows two versions of the centennial logo, so it seems like the yellow B will go on the home jersey & the black B will go on the away jersey.

I've already seen a ton of comments mocking them for copying off the Bengals by going with a white helmet. Forget the fact that the Browns existed first and wore white helmets 17 years before the Bengals even existed.

If they knew their history they'd realize that the Bengals franchise started out literally wearing Browns hand-me-downs. Pretty big glass house situation there.

The Spirits of St. Louis were named after a thing though, much like the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. I'm not sure it really works outside of that.

I mean "The Spirit of St. Louis" was a thing, so that naming convention made sense. The Mighty Ducks was a movie, but there was no reason they couldn't just have been the Anaheim Mighty Ducks other than Disney wanting their brand to come first. Going back to the previous 3 letter abbreviation conversation, I remember sometimes seeing MDA used for Anaheim. The funny thing is that in the movies the team only gets referred to as "The Mighty Ducks" a couple of times.

This is best looking jersey the Blue Jackets have had in their 23 year history.  I absolutely love it, especially the minor inclusion of  neon-green on the right shoulder patch.  Normally, things like having a base colour found nowhere else on the uniform, having red exclusively on the logos & number or using both black & navy would bother me...  But against all odds, this uniform comes together and just looks fantastic.  It should be their full-time home with a matching white.

I'm not a fan of the black for Columbus, but they definitely need to use this template for their home & away jerseys. The thicker piping along the sleeves, 3 stars instead of 1, and the hem stripe would make a big difference.

as for the rockets, they were originally red and grey before their jersey rehaul in 2019. red and grey was at least something a little different even if it wasn't eye catching. but like many, they went for red and black. i really wanted them to go back for the red and yellow look but they missed that opportunity and surely enough the hawks got their hands on it. i think it would be neat if the rockets went for a red and dark-red look that we got a glimpse of a few years back. much more of a cleaner and unique contrast in my opinion.

I think adding a bit of yellow trim to the two-tone red jersey would be ideal for Houston. If the yellow is minimal like it was on the championship set that should keep them from looking too much like Atlanta. Similar to how the Chiefs & Commanders are able to have distinct looks.

Portland, Chicago, Toronto, and Houston are all starting to look wayyyy too similar at a glance with their identical color red/black/white schemes. Because Portland and Chicago have a longer history with red and black, I think its on Toronto and Houston to switch things up. You could even throw Atlanta into this mix.

I agree with you,  but I can't see the Raptors changing anytime soon. They seem pretty set to keep using the red/black/white as the primary look, while mixing in the black & gold, throwback/purple, and blue/white Huskies looks through the city jersey program.

At this point, the Yankees might as well sell naming rights to the stadium as well. If the most iconic uniform in North American sports isn't sacred from cash grabs, then nothing else is either. Rip the entire Band-Aid off and just be done with it.

This really should've been what they did first if they felt like they were hard up for cash. Fans still would've been upset, but not nearly as much compared to the jersey. I still expect at some point we'll get something like *insert sponsor here* Field at Yankee Stadium.

Who would've thought we'd see Yankee players wearing ad patches before seeing them with beards?

The argument that all the colours found on a team's jersey always have to be present on its accompanying logo is flawed anyways...  Case in point: this jersey has an orange base but doesn't feature the colour anywhere on its logo...  Looks like a perfectly balanced design to me.

    dDC7Ip4.png

It's a little different when the only colour missing from the logo happens to be the base of the jersey. We've seen plenty of teams use a variation of their main logo on a dark jersey (the Flames home logo doesn't have any red in it, the Blues home logo has no royal blue, the Stars home logo has no green). It's a bit different when the logo is on a white background. The most recent Reverse Retro would've looked worse if the logo had no orange in it.

Was wondering…why don’t the blue jays get a Stars and Stripes hat to match the rest of the league ? Before I get “Canada” I was just getting to they are in a U.S. baseball league, their opponent (no matter who) is getting the celebratory gear and it’s not like you have to live there to celebrate. Heck, don’t the warriors (not an nba guy) do like Chinese new years jerseys? I saw their special cap and it looked like the batter man was S&S anyway

I mean Lunar New Year is celebrated by people around the world, and the Bay Area has a significant Chinese population, so that makes sense. Unless you're an American abroad, no other countries are celebrating American Independence. I can't imagine many Canadians lining up to buy Blue Jays gear covered in stars & stripes, especially with Canada Day taking place a few days before July 4th.

The Blackhawks crest/sweater proves that having colors or contrast not found in the sweater can be a net positive and not a problem to be “solved”

Well, the Blackhawks logo does use all their primary jersey colours. Eggplant was missing from both versions of the Mighty Ducks logo, and the dark jersey version didn’t use eggplant or jade.

Nashville is an example of adjusting/recolouring the primary logo and improving it. The multiple shades of grey & orange highlights weren’t necessary.

I get what you're saying.  On paper there's no way a jersey containing a crest that omits its two main colours could look good...  But I've seen lots of concepts that try and fix this issue by making the Triangle Jade, on the home jersey, and it always looks off.  The circle is supposed to represent a puck so you couldn't really change it to Eggplant so where else would you add that colour?

To me, it's just one of things that shouldn't work but inexplicably does...  Nostalgia probably has a lot to do with it but I just can't picture the jerseys looking any other way.

I've never heard anyone say that the circle is supposed to be a puck, I think it's just meant to be a circle. This concept shows that it's possible to have the Mighty Ducks logo match the colours.

Maybe I am missing something from their history that makes it that unique. I thought there have been many cases of teams being bought and their name being changed.

I think it's the drastic rebrand combined with the fact that they won the franchise's only Stanley Cup immediately after changing the name.

Love George! Speaking of Detroit, been seeing a lot of reports that they might be trading for Alex DeBrincat and only giving up a third and fourth round pick. Let’s hope, him and Larkin on the same line or even the same team excites me

Not a chance they’re getting DeBrincat that cheap, especially when you see what the Jets got in return for Dubois. At the very least it would be a 1st rounder + another piece or two. Berggren has been mentioned a lot.

And the Bruins' 23-24 schedule includes "Era Nights." There are six of them, all against Original Six opponents. Montreal gets two of them.

    EDIT:

It seems strange that they're being so vague about this whole thing. They unveil a centennial crest that will I guess be the primary logo for the upcoming season, but make no mention of if there will be new uniforms or if the new crest will even be used on the uniforms. Then they announce the Era Nights with a video that highlights various uniforms from their history, but don't explicitly state whether or not they'll actually wear those uniforms during those games. It's all very confusing.

  14. Might be time to revoke Seth Rorabaugh’s award voting privileges. After leaving Matthews & McDavid off his Hart ballot last season, he doubled down on the stupidity by giving McDavid a 5th place vote this year. This was the one vote that prevented him from being the unanimous winner.

He also had Bergeron 4th in the Selke, and omitted Karlsson & Power from his Norris & Calder ballots, respectively.

People's sexual activities - your free to do what you want, but doesn't really need to be a topic at a Blue Jackets and Red Wings game

So I guess we should ban the kiss cam or people proposing during sporting events? Wouldn’t want to have to explain what straight people are to the innocent children in the crowd.

I think this is comparing apples to oranges a bit. What makes this a bit different is that the players that don't want to wear the uniforms are doing so mostly because of religious beliefs. Whether or not you agree with those religious beliefs doesn't matter. They have the right to those beliefs under the First Amendment. So what you call bigotry is just the belief system of their religion.

I'm not arguing for or against the NHL's decision to not do warmup jerseys. I'm claim zero religious beliefs so this statement isn't coming from an uber-Christian point of view.  But you have players from Russian background, Christian backgrounds, etc that have the right to their beliefs.

Full disclosure here: I don't care what people do in the bedroom. Have a great time as long as everyone is consenting and of age. But I've never understood why an arena of people would need to celebrate that by wearing pride jerseys. Especially when half of the stadium is children who should be more concerned about picking up a bobble head than celebrating people's sexual orientation.

Plenty of religious groups/leaders have changed their stance on LGBTQ+ issues over the years, and I’m sure that there are more religious players who wore the jerseys than didn’t. There can be value in religious beliefs, but more often than not they get corrupted in order to justify ignorance.

And you’ve completely missed the point of the pride celebrations. It has nothing to do with “what people do in the bedroom”, it’s about acknowledging a group that’s historically been vilified by western society & generally unwelcome within the world of men’s sports. Kids don’t view it as a sexual thing in the same way that they don’t view straight couples as sexual things. It’s conservative adults who seem to keep projecting sexuality onto the whole debate.

And I hate to break it to you, but some people don’t like being coerced into doing stuff. That’s just how the world works.

Oh no, we really need to be going out of our way to protect the fragile masculinity of a handful of bigots who don’t like being told to respect people.

I’ve used this example before, but what do you think would happen if an MLB player refused to wear 42 on Jackie Robinson Day? Do you think the commissioner would just scrap players wearing the number altogether?

“I want to support the charities, but what’s in it for me?” is always a weird argument from “altrustic” people.

Well I hate to break it to you, but that’s how the world works. If you’re asking people to donate $500 to a charity, or you’re asking them to spend $500 on a jersey with the proceeds going to charity, what do you think is more likely to get people to open their wallets?

Devil's advocate here....this may have something to do with the Adidas deal ending this upcoming season for production purposes.

Teams are still going to be allowed to produce & sell special event jerseys, they just won’t be worn by players pre-game.

I found the pregame warmup jerseys mostly stupid, and in alot of cases, not needed. They can just project goofy crap on the ice if they really want to do anything for a themed night instead of wasting money producing silly versions of jerseys.

After warm ups they players generally would sign the jerseys & they’d get auctioned off for charity. The league decided to take money out of the pockets of some great causes just to avoid upsetting the homophobic apple cart.

Seinfeld’s “Who’s not wearing the ribbon?” episode was spot on in this case.

Fans will just have to donate to charities without expecting something in return.

That Seinfeld analogy is completely overused & isn’t at all relevant. People seem to forget that in that episode Kramer was actually doing the AIDS walk. It’s not like Provorov & the Staals were marching in the Pride parade without a jersey on.

And there is zero percent chance that the charities are able to bring in the same money without having signed jerseys to auction off.

The Flyers' old captain letters, where you had single-layer black on a white background or black surrounded by white on an orange background, do make the case for those white contrasting nameplates I love so much I'M JUST SAYING DON'T GET MAD

They don’t match the contrasting nameplates on the white jersey though. They match the logo, which also happens to be a black letter outlined in white.
