Well, one issue is that, long term, they have no access to water. That’s probably going to be an enormous problem. They’re also centered in one of the most flat broke states in the country.

Well cities like Phoenix & Miami will likely be uninhabitable by the end of this century, and that doesn't seem to be a concern for pro sports leagues.

I think if you can get people to show up for hockey, it's possible to get some bleed over into baseball fans as well, but they'll need a dome stadium to do it. I also want to see how well the Raiders do this year with fans finally being able to enter the stadium.

I don't think the Raiders drawing fans is going to be a problem. Only 9 home games, with most of them happening on the weekend means there will be plenty of out of town fans planning trips there around the schedule. The only issue they might face is that the crowds might be skewed towards the visiting team.

Las Vegas if they get the A's: "We are going to make a call to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and MLS Commissioner Don Garber to ask them to give us teams so that we can have teams in all five major league sports, plus indoor football, WNBA and indoor lacrosse!  We are not longer a minor league city!  We are a major league city and we thank Golden Knights Owner Bill Foley and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman for allowing us to have delusions of grandeur as a major league city!"

The Las Vegas metro area population has doubled in the last 20 years, and is projected to hit 3 million in the next 5 years. It has been one of the world's major entertainment destinations for decades now, and if it weren't for professional sports' puritanical views on gambling, there would have been teams there a long time ago. Whether or not they land a MLB team, I think the NBA is an inevitability.

I'd like to see the A's find a solution that keeps them in the Bay Area, but I'm not sure why so many people have issues with Vegas getting professional sports. This isn't that different than LA getting 3 expansion teams & 2 relocated teams in less than 10 years during the late '50s/'60s.

It sounds like the Hurricanes requested to move their Stadium Series game back to 2022-23. I wonder if those jerseys that leaked a few weeks ago will be what they wear, or if they are going to go with something different.

I just saw the statement from Waddell that the Canes released, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. He said the organization wants to ensure "a safe environment for fans", yet they had almost a full barn during the playoffs, and have already announced 100% capacity with no masks at next season's home games.

  4. ICYMI the league announced some marquee events for next season:

    https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-announces-2022-all-star-game-winter-classic-and-stadium-series-events/c-325499840

The Winter Classic that was supposed to be in Minneapolis this year will take place in 2022. I'd assume both teams already had the uniform designs in the can, but I'm surprised nothing had leaked. My guess would be the Wild in a green version of this year's Reverse Retros, with the Blues in white versions of their throwbacks.

The Stadium Series will feature Tampa travelling to Nashville to face the Preds at Nissan Stadium in February. Who knows what they'll come up with for this. Tampa's gradient alternate already has Stadium Series vibes. Considering both teams have a history of using silver, I'd expect a lot of chrome to be incorporated somehow.

They also announced that a Heritage Classic will take place in March, but the teams and location is still TBD. Montreal has still never hosted one, and it has been a while since Edmonton hosted the first one, so I could see either team getting it. If they want to try another neutral site, I could see Hamilton getting it. Toronto vs Buffalo at Tim Hortons Field could be cool, but I'm sure they want an all-Canadian matchup.

All Star Weekend will be in Vegas. This is a no-brainer, and hopefully it convinces more players to actually show up. If they stick with the divisional 3v3 format they used before, Vegas's colour scheme could lead to some cool looks (white vs. grey/black vs. gold vs. red).

South Florida was supposed to have the All Star Game this year, and Carolina was supposed to have a Stadium Series game. Bettman says they will "be back at some point", but who knows what that means. Pretty sure Arizona was promised another ASG after they cancelled the '06 one, but that has yet to happen.

Okay then so it’s simple. Give the Ravens a purple alt helmet and Minnesota a black alt helmet.

Seriously though, what do you suggest the Ravens do in the event of the team deciding they want a second helmet? Purple is the most logical, white is a stretch and no chance in hell they do gold after the fiasco involving gold pants a few years ago. Unless they decide to scrap their color rush and unveiled a grey/anthracite/silver alternate uniform, I don’t see that as an option either.

Saying a team can’t do a certain color helmet because another team shares a similar color scheme is a poor excuse.

As others have mentioned, there is no reason for the Ravens need to do an alternate helmet. The one-helmet rule started in 2013, so it's not like they never had a chance to introduce one in the past. I don't doubt at least a couple teams are going to come up with an alternate helmet just for the sake of it, but that kind of thinking spells disaster.

If they feel like they need to have one, maybe go white & come up with a fauxback that ties into the Baltimore Colts.

I don't see why the league which has 5 teams in white helmets, 4 teams in black helmets is fine, but a second team in purple isn't.    Baltimore could use a different shade of purple, just as the 49ers and Saints don't use the same gold, for example.   That said, I'd rather they come up with a less cartoonish bird without the "B" , which  is already used on their pants, then worry about another color.

It's not just the colour of the helmet, it's the overall look. Purple is unique already, plus both teams use shades of gold.

A lot of teams can pull off a white helmet, but if Jacksonville came out with one & paired it with the teal jersey it would look like a Dolphins knock-off. If the WFT decides to switch their shade of gold to metallic & pairs a gold helmet with the red jersey it would be too close to the Niners.

A purple team doing purple things isn’t encroaching on anything. It’s like saying the Patriots can’t ever do a Pat Patriot helmet again because the Bills currently use a white helmet full time.

That example is a bit of a stretch. There's a half dozen teams or so with a history of white helmets, so it's not something Buffalo owns. Plus the Pats have a history of wearing white helmets, whereas the Ravens have never worn anything other than black.

Minnesota is the only team in the history of the league to wear a purple helmet, and they happen to use gold as a secondary colour. Even though one uses athletic gold & the other uses metallic gold, the black is the main thing differentiating the Ravens. Just look at these two pictures & try to tell me a purple helmet wouldn't look a little too close to Minnesota.

I'm sure most of the league will have alternate helmets in 2022. With some exceptions:

    Bills - Red

    Dolphins - Teal or None

    Patriots - White

    Jets - White or Black

    Ravens - Purple

    Bengals - White

    Browns - White

    Steelers - Yellow

    Texans - White or Red

    Colts - Blue

    Jaguars - Teal

Titans - White or Light Blue

    Broncos - Royal

    Chiefs - None

    Raiders - None

    Chargers - Navy or Royal

    Cowboys - White

    Giants - None

    Eagles - Kelly Green

    WFT - None

    Bears - None

    Lions - None

    Packers - None

    Vikings - None

    Falcons - Red

    Panthers - Black

    Saints - Black or White

    Bucs - White

Cardinals - Red, Black or None

Rams - Black or darker blue if throwback (This  could be terrible)

    49ers - Silver or None

    Seahawks - Silver

Teams in bold probably wouldn't have alternates. Depends on what alternates/throwbacks we see down the road, and what direction Washington goes with their branding.

The Bills seem to want people to forget they ever wore red helmets, so I think they'll stick with the white throwbacks with the standing Buffalo.

Miami has never worn anything other than a white helmet, and they seem happy with the throwbacks, so I don't see them trying anything new.

Ravens in a purple helmet feels like its encroaching on Vikings territory.

As previously mentioned, the Panthers wouldn't be able to wear a black helmet with the black jersey, so it kind of defeats the purpose.

Honestly if it was up to me they would scrap the logo and start from scratch but I get that some people still want them to cosplay as Gretzky's team so just minor changes that would help make the jersey look less loud and garish.

Did you look at your avatar before you decided to post this? No one accuses the current Habs of "cosplaying as Beliveau's team" or the Red Wings of "cosplaying as Howe's team" because it's a completely outrageous comment to make.

Today's Edmonton Oilers are the exact same Edmonton Oilers franchise that Gretzky, Messier, Fuhr, etc. played for, so there's nothing wrong with using the same uniform.

Not sure why you're talking down to people for having an attachment to a brand that's associated with some of the greatest teams in the history of the sport.

Edmonton is doing their best to make up for the lack of bad uniforms in the province now that Calgary finally (mostly, why is it still a third jersey?) theirs.

I'm pretty sure Calgary kept the previous monstrosity around for one year to try and clear out as much inventory as possible. My guess is that it's gone next season, and they keep Blasty around as a permanent third.

Except for the fact that “Football Team” is the official name so it’s not an issue. There’s a big irrelevancy to “Football Giants” still being used. It may be fun to say, but there’s no point in referring to New York as such.

Considering San Francisco got the baseball team over 60 years ago, there's a lot of casual sports fans who don't even realize they used to play in New York. Bringing up "New York Football Giants" enlightens a new generation on a fun piece of trivia.

Football Team being the official name doesn't make it any less ridiculous to hear & see in comparison to the rest of the league. Take something like this as an example:

I’ve heard it quite often honestly. I’m not entirely sure why anyone still says it. It’s irrelevant to even mention the “Football” part for the Giants.  As is “THE Ohio State”.  At least with Washington there’s currently and legitimately a necessary reason to say the “Football” part.

More of a “grinds my gear” kind of deal, I suppose. To each their own.

But it's not like they are officially called the "Football Giants", and are forcing every media outlet to refer to them this way. It's just a fun nickname that ties into the history of sports in New York. It might be a nitpick or pet peeve of yours, but comparing it to the WFT is like apples & oranges.

A broadcaster starting a game by announcing "tonight the Football Giants take on the Eagles", isn't as much of an issue as hearing them say "tonight the Football Team takes on the Cowboys".

  12. Most teams didn't actually make any money off the helmet ads this year, they essentially allowed them to keep sponsorship revenue that would've been owed back to companies due to the shortened season/lack of fans. Starting next year they'll actually get to use it as a new revenue stream.

At this point I would bet on us getting jersey ads by the end of the decade.

It's a tiny sliver of a silver lining, but at least the Bell logo fits the Jets colour scheme better than Canada Life's.

  13. Here's the article that mentions the new uniform:

    https://3downnation.com/2021/06/06/what-really-happened-to-the-redblacks-plaid-helmets/

The uniform change isn't mentioned until the end, but still an interesting read about the unused signature plaid helmets. Basically the manufacturers couldn't figure out a way for the plaid design to line up properly, so they decided to avoid potentially looking sloppy.

    spacer.png

It sounds like they'll be incorporating some plaid into the new uniforms, which should be a hit.

Is it bad that, even with all the flaws of this set, I think the Rams look fantastic in this uniform combo?

Well it is the closest thing to a replication of the throwback set. Those yellow pants need to be worn for every game possible.

  15. They seem to be continuing to put more emphasis on the ram head over to the L@. Here is their training camp hat that recently went on sale. Every other team in the league uses their primary logo (although the Bears have 2 versions, one with the primary logo, and one with the alternate 'B' logo).

Also, I think this is the first time the Canes have ever had an alternate jersey without any white on it at all? Which is pretty neat, given how long they've been around in the NHL.

They've been around a while, but they've only had 2 different alternate jerseys (not counting the Whaler looks), so it isn't too crazy.

I definitely like this font, and wouldn't mind seeing it on the rest of the set. I have always thought the Canes could pull off a grey alternate jersey.

Montreal, Hamilton, and Edmonton have the best looks in the league.

I'd love to see the Saskatchewan, BC, and Calgary give their primary logos much needed updates. Make the outlines sharper so that the overall logo designs become improved and up to date.

Saskatchewan already tweaked their primary logo a few years ago. I'd still like them to go back to the Seahawks-style wraparound logo on the helmets though.

Speaking of the Hawks and Olympics, I have a feeling that they could go with a 1996 Olympic themed city uniform next year to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the games. Maybe? Maybe not? Just an idea.
