So is the Big XII still planning on playing a nine-game conference schedule and then having a rematch for the title? Seems odd, but if this had been in place a couple years back with TCU and Baylor, I think the winner of that game would have been in over Ohio State, so this might be a perfectly fine way to do things for them.

I know the Sun Belt will have divisions in two seasons when they start playing their conference title game, but those teams still need the money generated from having four non-conference games. Though playing nine and having two potentially strong teams playing at the end may give them a better shot at the access bowl. Then again, it's not often that more than one team is any good in the Sun Belt in a year (if even that). Though I think things worked out really well for the Sun Belt in the long run. They now get to have the added revenue and fanfare of a conference title game like C-USA, but with only 10 teams to split the money among instead of 14, and the Sun Belt already makes more money per team in their TV deal than C-USA.

Yup, it's 1 vs 2. They probably didn't want to split up Okahoma, OK State and Texas. That makes it hard to come up with a good divisional setup that doesn't put all the stronger teams in the same division.

I am really feeling like this expansion may be the beginning of the conversion of the Longhorn Network to Big XII Network or something in that direction.

Texas and possibly Oklahoma could receive concessions in the new deal, and if I was Cincy, Houston and any other remaining candidate I would offer to take less $$$ for a set period of time.  That decreased amount would still most likely be more of a cut than the current cuts in The American.

This will probably be a requirement for any teams coming in. Rutgers and Maryland take less from the Big Ten for a set amount of time before getting a full share. That's why the ACC bumped up their exit fees to keep from losing teams to the Big Ten and Big XII.

Memphis is out ans has been for a week.

Their administration is using the nondisclosure agreement with the Big XII as their reason not to admit it publicly.

ESPN also said BYU was out but apparently they're still in. Also, Iowa State's student government sent a letter to the Big XII offices saying they are against BYU coming in due to their honor code rules.

The problem with this logo was that it was chosen by the previous owners children( I wish I was making this up). The previous owner was absent and ran the franchise into the ground and the new owner is very engaging with the fans and trying to build it back up. He's told me that he doesn't want to change the logo just to change it, he wants to keep the identity going and change it to reflect our back story.

I'm surprised you know what are name is based off of. Most people in the Cleveland area don't even know why were named the Crushers!!

They probably though someone was a fan of the old Cleveland Crunch/Force!

The team I work for, the Lake Erie Crushers that play in the Frontier League, are getting new logos and new uniforms next year. Here's their current logo.. Which is not great IMO. We're probably getting a new color scheme, but our owner is keeping his options open.

It's a good logo for like a tournament but doesn't translate into a good uniform look. It's too horizontal.  I still like the look though.

It's 18 applications and the four unnamed school came to light.

    The four are/were (per McMurphy):

    San Diego State

    Northern Illinois

    Air Force

    Arkansas State

Arkansas State - Gets you into SEC territory but not sure they'll be competitive for at least 5 years.

Air Force - Obviously only brings in football, basketball is hit and miss. Would be a bit of a middle finger to BYU though.

San Diego State - Gets you into California and they'll be middle of the pack rather than bottom of the table.

Northern Illinois  - Would pretty much kill the MAC. They leave and I'm certain you'll see the remaining teams start dropping down to 1-AA.

I really think Air Force is one of those three.  Maybe the remaining three are the military academies.

Navy and Army to the Big XII probably wouldn't happen due to travel costs. Their budgets come from Congress. I'd think every division 1 school in Texas and the Sun Belt is probably on the list.

A bit of news as it pertains to the Dodgers' on-going TV situation...the L.A. Times reported that Time Warner Cable has stopped negotiations with other TV providers for carriage of Sportsnet LA, even though TWC was willing to lower its price to TV providers.  Of course, the merger between Charter and Time Warner Cable is still awaiting federal approval, which could really play a role in Sportsnet LA's future.

One team RSNs usually don't work, especially a network like Sportsnet LA which only has the Dodgers and nothing else but filler.  At least the other TWC sports network here have other live programming surrounding the Lakers year-round.

Doesn't Sportsnet have Lakers and Galaxy games as well? Still not enough for year round coverage but should be enough to bring in something, especially with Southern Section high school football.

  9. The Big Ten does not need to expand. Reaching all the way to Florida isn't necessary as long as they can recruit top athletes to places like West Lafayette and Bloomington. If Notre Dame decided that the Big Ten was better for them across the board, that may force NBC to cancel the Notre Dame contract, or most likely buy into Big Ten football. With three big networks paying into the league, Notre Dame would be able to get their exit fees paid off much quicker than Florida State, UNC or Georgia Tech. If that happens I would think Cincinnati, UConn or another Big XII team might be induced to come in as team number 16.

I'd really like to get my hands on this and any of the new Vapor Untouchable PSDs if they are available.

  11. Good to hear. San Antonio is a triple-A market at the very least, IMO. My guess is it'll be either Las Vegas or Colorado Springs that will pack up shop and become that eventual PCL Missions club. All other clubs seem pretty firmly entrenched and/or popular.

It will be interesting to see where they plan on building. There's some cheap land around the current stadium but that area needs more than a new stadium.
  12. Coming from a designer's point of view, I just love reading the comments of people on rebrands. It's hilarious. I doubt many of them couldn't make a stick figure look like a stick figure. Thanks for the humor. :)

This is like an athlete dropping the "you never played the game" argument. People without talent in a given field can still make astute, valid criticisms of it.
Except for Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith.
  13. And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse....The Fresno Grizzlies will be the Tacos for a game.

    Those are awesome, actually.

I'm pre-ordering one of those hats. Awesome design and promotion! MiLB at it's best! (don't get any ideas NBA)

Is the game sponsored by Del Taco? That's what I think of looking at that hat.

Wait... what? Maybe you meant to post the version of the Dolphins unis that came right before the Oilers move to Tennessee, but these uniforms were in circulation together for quite some time.

Using pro-football-reference, I was able to date this photo to November 17, 1996. Karim Abdul-Jabbar is the ballcarrier, and James Roberson is the defensive lineman on the ground.
I thought this was a joke at first. I looked it up and much to my surprise it is not.
The best part is he was a RB at UCLA. I remember a story that when he was given the name after converting his response was, "Do you know where I go to school"?
