RobRoberts
Official world from the ACHL:April 22, 2003ACHL MOVES AHEAD AS SEVEN TEAM LEAGUE FOR 2003-2004The Atlantic Coast Hockey League today announced that the league would move forward with a minimum of seven cities for the 2003-2004 season. Based on a review of the ACHL Membership Agreements as well as the By-Laws of the league, ACHL legal council finds the Membership Agreements and By-Laws to be valid and enforceable; including the ACHL?s five-year non-compete provision. As a result, the Atlantic Coast Hockey League will proceed, at this time, with franchises in the following cities: Cape Fear (Fayetteville), NC; Jacksonville, FL; Knoxville, TN; Macon, GA; Miami, FL; Orlando, FL; and Winston-Salem, NC. In addition, the Atlantic Coast Hockey League continues to pursue additional expansion cities for the ACHL?s second season of operation, and are in negotiation with a number of locales. Mr. David Waronker, the principal investor of four of the franchises, has been invited to continue operating in his current cities. If he chooses not to, the ACHL is prepared to take the necessary action to find new ownership in each of the cities in question. The ACHL wants to insure that all of our loyal hockey fans continue to enjoy professional hockey in our established markets, without interruption, in the 2003-2004 season. However, this is what the Orlando Seals have to say:Orlando, FL - Seals owners David and Ruth Waronker are inviting hockey fans to join them at The Kerryman Pub in Longwood on Saturday, May 17, at noon for a roundtable discussion regarding the exciting future of Orlando professional hockey, the brand new World Hockey Association 2 and the upcoming 2003-04 season. The Seals staff and members of the 2002-03 championship Seals team also will be on hand. Fans are invited to come ready with questions. Soft drinks and finger foods will be provided by The Kerryman Pub, which is located at 988 West State Road 434. From downtown Orlando take I-4 East to the Longwood Exit. Go right on 434 and take a right into the Township Shopping Plaza. Please call (407) 331-5024 for additional directions. Ex-WHA Great Hull Attends WHA-WHA2 Meetings Over Weekend Former NHL and World Hockey Association superstar Bobby Hull attended the WHA and WHA2 meetings this weekend in Niagara Falls to discuss an administrative position with the reincarnated WHA, which is scheduled to begin play in 2004. The Hall of Famer spent 15 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL before shocking the hockey world in 1972 by signing a 10-year, $2.75 million contract with the fledgling WHA's Winnipeg Jets. Hull's jump to the WHA gave the league instant credibility. In 1979, the Golden Jet returned to the NHL when Winnipeg and three other WHA franchises entered the league as expansion teams. David and Ruth Waronker, who own the 2002-03 champion Orlando Seals, Jacksonville Barracudas, Miami Manatees and Macon Trax, and Peter Young, the director of hockey operations for the Waronkers' stable of teams, also participated in the meetings and made a presentation on the WHA2, which will be the developmental league for the WHA. Representatives from prospective WHA and WHA2 cities as well as delegates from the International Ice Hockey Federation were on hand to discuss the new leagues and European expansion. Like I said, just an update.Rob

RobRoberts
I think that might be his way of avoiding the ACHL taking legal action. I also read that by changing the logo of the Baracudas, he is contending that they are a different team than the one in the ACHL.Sounds to me that this guy might be boardering on nuts. It's really fun to watch this all unfold...Rob

RobRoberts
I think that between the Macon Whoopie, Macon Trax, and Macon Peaches, the team should be barred from naming sports teams. Unless, of course, they decide on something like "Macon Mistakes."Rob
