JabeShepherd
I'm trying to create a team concept associated with the Union from the American Civil War Besides Yankees or Yanks, what other examples do we have? What can be some names for Union themes and what city or state could I base the team on?

leopard88
Springfield Rifles seems to get a lot of play in youth and amateur sports. That isn't necessarily Civil War related, but there is at least some connection. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield_Model_1861 You could also just go with Blues and incorporate a soldier's hat or uniform into the logo. That would probably work for just about any city in the northeast. MJWalker45
Not a direct association, but the Canton Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps take their name from the jackets worn by Canton Police Department. Those jackets came from the reserves of the Union army after the war. (www.bluecoats.com)

MilSox
Rufus King High School in Milwaukee is named after a union general and Milwaukee native who led the Iron Brigade, an infantry regiment of soldiers that came mostly from Wisconsin. Rufus King later returned home and organized the first official baseball game in Milwaukee at one of the union training grounds. When the American Association announced plans to expand into Milwaukee, I wanted this history to be the basis for the new team's identity. Some of the names I suggested were Ironmen, Brigadiers, and Black Hats.
