Bonds thinks he may miss the season

i agree with you STL FANATIC, but one thing that i dont get is why is Bonds getting so much heat when a giy like Jason Giambi is flying right under the radar. thats what just baffles me

Simple: Giambi admitted it, and has apologized. Bonds won't. He (Giambi) also previously hasn't been a total dick with the press, nor in his personal life.

did anyone see 61*? i kinda think this Bonds thing is more of a modern day 1961 without a loveable counterpart

Richest most talented guy you'd ever meet and he's feeling sorry for himself.......whaaa, leave me alone.

Exactly.

Bonds is on it. EVERYONE knows this but no one wants to be the one to say it. You look at his rookie picture from 1987 and look at him now. Look at the man's head. NO ONE gains that much mass in that span of time without some sort of enhancement.

ok now this isnt true. im into body building and when i look at pictures of me from just three years ago and now, im astonished at the size and muscle mass ive gained. it has been 18 years since his rookie year and about 10 since he was skinny. so if weight training is done the gight way, you can put on an unbelieveable amount of muscle mass in a relatively short amount of time with no steriods let alone supplemental enhancements

The problem ith your logic is that you are what...18-19? Barry is over 40. I'm 23 and I don't gain muscle/lose weight like I did when i was 18. A 40 year old doesn't typically get stronger, and hit more and more home runs every year. In fact, I'd like to see a player that has hit MORE home runs in his late 30/early 40s than he did in his late 20s/early 30s that isn't named Barry Bonds.

Now, in that stat, I'd bring up Big Mac for that, but he hit 49 as a rookie. Now that is impressive even if he was on steroids at the time.

Unlike STLFAN, I think I've seen the light for Big Mac. I feel let down and nieve to think he was any different. There is nothing wrong with STL feeling that way and I'm not going to try to convince him or anything.

In my opinion, Roger Maris and Babe Ruth are still the Home Run kings single season, and Hank Aaron will always be the Home Run King regardless of what Barry Does. And that's directly because of Steroids.

I'm thinking he means cranial mass, not muscle mass. Of course, I'm thinking it would be incredibly hard to put on that much weight in total muscle at that late of an age, but no matter how hard you work out, your head just ain't gonna grow after you're about 18-20.

About Barry himself, I really do hate the guy, his personality, everything he says he stands for, but DAMN what a ballplayer he is. I never respected his ability before last season when I took in a game at Busch, and he was crushing everything in sight during BP, then during the game hit an absolute laser that probably killed someone in the bleachers....Granted, the distance was steroid induced, but man, these things were missles. Having said that, I hope this is the end, although if he were to come back next year, lose 20 lbs and a couple of hat sizes, and still be hitting those 40 homers/year he hit pretty much every year prior to 2001, I wouldn't feel so bad about him passing Hank and the Babe.

I've decided to give up hope for all sports teams I follow

If Barry was juicing, wouldn't he have stopped 2 years ago when all the testing started? It would only make sense that he of all people would have stopped knowing the spot light was just searching him out.

Giambi admitted to using them, stopped, and lost a ton of weight. I do believe Sheffield also lost some weight after all this started. Bonds on the other hand is the same he has been for the last several years.

Also, Bonds started truly bulking up in his late 20's, early 30's and has maintained that size. From all accounts the man is meticulous in his approach to working out and does it regularly. McGwire was another man known for his workout regimine. Canseco bulked up, never worked out, and made fun of people who did.

Did Bonds do steroids? Could be, probably.

Did McGwire do steroids? Could be, probably.

At the end of the day, does it really affect your life or have any real affect on American life that Congress should be involved? NO.

Afterall, it is only a game, and the records really don't matter. To me, Mike Schmidt is the greatest Home Run hitter of all time. I also think Cal Ripken is the greatest SS of all time and Ozzie got way too much defensive credit. I never saw Maris, Ruth, or Mays ever swing a bat in a game. Aaron I barely remember. Those records are nothing but letters on a page and have no bearing on my enjoyment of the game.

Steroids apparently have been used for the last 10 years or so in baseball. Most people on this board can remember that far back, some farther. Being one of those who can remember farther back, I can tell you they haven't affected the game at all. There are a few more homers and less pitching duels. That could also be creditted to the fact that the talent pool is a lot more spread now(see hockey). But the game is still great and looks the same as it always has.

A few have come out and said it, other's beat around the bush. Most hate Bonds and love McGwire; and that is the only difference between the two. I don't judge a player by the kind of interview he gives, and don't care what he does off the field. Bonds and McGwire have NEVER done anything on the field to bring disrepute to theirselves. I don't care if they ever put anything in their body, they are/were a joy to watch and if it is proven that they juiced up I won't be dissapointed, sad, feel naive, or change any memory I have.
