Yeah I think comparing Morrsion to Bird is a bit of a stretch

There are three comparisons.....

Good. White. Basketball Player.

actually, there's a lot more to the comparison than that. Both are from mid majors, both can and will find ways to score from anywhere on the court, both are big talkers on the court, both are clever players and fierce competitors who find ways to win, and both are slow yet tenacious offensive players who arent that great on defense. Still, I see just as much Keith Van Horn as i do Larry Bird

when you're replacing an old Carr, you need more than Les Miles

Lots of Morrison hating going on. He may not wind up being as good as Larry Bird, but he has had an amazing season so far.

Hatin' is pretty much a 24/365 activity on these boards. Most of the time it's unjustified, too.

as somebody who lived in Spokane when Gonzaga started blowing up (god, was it really 8 years ago?), who always takes the Zags irrationally, AND who loves seeing awesome emotional play, I happen to love the way Morrisson plays the game. Morrisson for Trail Blazer's lottery pick :P

besides, how can you hate the hair and facial hair style that is only describable as "'70's porn chic"? ;)

I'm not hatin' on him, actually I really enjoy watching him play. It's just that its too soon to be comparing Morrison to Larry Bird, one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Its like the lebron to jordan comparison when LbJ was in high school. Yeah I see that he is a great player prolly top 50 of all time when he's done, but it was too soon to be comparing lebron to a plyer of MJ's caliber.

More to the point, why does Adam Morrison have to be "the next" anybody?

How many careers wilted under the pressure of trying to be the next Michael Jordan? Harold Miner was anointed as "Baby Jordan", and what did he ever do? Vince Carter had the college pedigree and the hops, but not the heart or the will to win. LeBron hasn't had the time to bear that mantle, and his game is different (better passer, lesser defender). The list goes on and on down to kids still in high school (OJ Mayo), but answer this: Who was Michael Jordan "the next" of? NOBODY. He was the first MJ. The one that everyone's been trying desperately to find a successor for going on a decade without success. Jordan wasn't the next Bird, or Magic, or Doc. He was allowed to be the first without the burden of comparisons.

Same with Bird - no one called him the next Maravich or Bob Pettit. Why saddle Morrison with those sorts of expectations before he's even done his junior year in college while the man he's being compared to was allowed to flourish without those comparisons? When he's done in the NBA, then we can go back and figure out who his career most resembled, if we feel the need to do so. Not now.

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.
