Dark Angel
I was listening to the Lee Kline show last night on AM570(That XTRA for SOCAL sports fan) while playing MLB06 and I think I heard him saying that the Sporting News is going out of buisness at the end of 06. I'm wondering if theres any truth to the rumors.

I'm wondering if theres any truth to the rumors. Paul Allen, who owns the Sporting News, the Trail Blazers, the Seahawks, and other things (and is worth billions) has recently said that he's going to sell off the properties that have money losers--meaning the Trail Blazers and Sporting News (the magazine and its radio network, including its two flagships in Boston and Los Angeles). I heard a writer from the Portland Oregonian on the radio recently saying that if Howard Schultz ends up selling the Supersonics, Paul Allen might be first in line to buy them, while selling the Blazers to a local ownership in Portland. And, by the way, Allen is from Seattle. One rumor I heard is that former Blazer great Terry Porter and a local investor group could buy the Blazers from Allen, if the price is right. jm1266
If this is true, I wouldn't be surprised. Sadly, TSN has been scaling back various segments of their operations for the past few years.
Mac the Knife
I stopped reading any weekly/monthly sports mags several years ago. In an age where the internet exists and people are less and less willing to pay for content, I'm surprised any of 'em are still surviving.

Does The Sporting News and Canada's TSN Networks have any connection? On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) The_Admiral
No, TSN (The Sports Network) is affiliated with ESPN. The Sporting News is another company. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
Joshawaggie
darn, i recieve the Sporting News, and I enjoy it. Although there isnt as much in it as in years past. And they completely neglect the NHL, but besides that its good. @josh_j12 CFA- Fargo Bobcats
