I like the slight angling of the whole thing to give it a little motion and dynamism. Except that the angled letters just aren't working for me at all. If I ignore the DC United letters, I like the look of the logo a lot. If I don't ignore the letters, I think the overall look is extremely amateurish.

The shield has me wondering, "What's the significance of the red Y behind the eagle?"

I like the white eagle head. Too bad you gave the eagle human eyes instead of bird eyes. Take that red dot and put it on the side of the head, like this:

Finally, the white star seems plain now that you've made the rest of the logo more colorful. Rather than coloring the star, which I'm not sure would be an improvement, darkening the blue and the red somewhat would provide better contrast with the white star (and the eagle's head).
