OCE
Go here for some very cool 1920s football jerseys based on the designs found in the film Leatherheads:LinkThose look like sweatshirts. I haven't been to the football HOF in Canton for a long time, but if I remember the stripes were strips of felt (?) stitched onto sweaters of wool or something similar. Not sure what their purpose was. Maybe they helped players grip the ball, but then what was the v-shaped strip around the collarbones for? Nobody carried the ball there. The sweaters looked pretty tight-fitting compared to what you'd see at Dillard's or The Gap, for instance.
Spearhead
On the original jerseys, those patches were made of leather and they helped to both hide the ball and keep it fimly grapsed to the body.

Gothamite
Packers did it in the 20s as well.I've bought from Past Time Sports before, quality of the leather helmet was okay, but these look like silkscreened sweatshirts. Kinda silly. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
