I have to agree with JQK... Mats is a old fart..and he needs to retire for good and go back home to Sweden.. ehhh but whatever he does with Vancouver would be interesting to see....

He said he wanted to retire a Leaf.

He said he doesn't want to be a rental player.

Now he'll get booed next time he plays in Toronto.

Thanks, Mats.

Don't forget he also said it wouldn't be about the money! $10 Million for half a season is chump change you know.

Yeah, Sundin ain't really trustworthy is he? He said he wouldn't be a rent a player, he said it wasn't for the money, he said he hated the travel in the east; yet he's become a rent a player for a large sum of money in the west. Yeah, we can guarantee the first round exit of Vancouver. Ask Colorado how they did with Forsberg last year or the Ducks with Selanne and Niedermayer. Hockey's about earning respect of your teammates from training camp until the last game of the season. Sundin has no respect in the Vancouver locker room.

The deal is pro-rated so he isn't getting 10 mill this season even though that is what the contract is worth. He'll end up making about 7 million.

Wow, roughly $7 million, wonder if his family will survive the recession without the extra $3 million.

Closer to $5M, actually. The deal is to be structured in a way that if necessary, the Canucks c an make a push to bring in another top-6 forward (or a top-4 defenseman, since Sami Salo has decided to have a hospital ward named after him this year) at the deadline.

1. Would Leaf fans be pissy had he signed with the Rangers?

2. If the Sedins (for example) had done this, and ended up signing in Toronto for this kind of money, you guys would be tripping all over yourselves for a mouthful of Swede.

And thanks, Oddball, for telling us the mood inside the Canucks locker room. This type of inside information is invaluable, and you're a valued member of the community for it.
