roxfan00
Ski plate to become reality on WednesdayDENVER - It may be June, but Coloradans will have an opportunity to talk about skiing and snowboarding all summer long, thanks to the state's newest license plate. Gov. Bill Ritter (D-Colorado) will sign into law a measure Wednesday afternoon creating a "Ski Country USA" license plate. The plate will be the first in the country to feature both a skier and a snowboarder in its design. The measure passed the State Senate unanimously and the State House on a 60-4 vote. It will be available for drivers to put on their vehicles on August 5. Nearly 4,500 people have already committed to buying a plate, more than the 3,000 necessary for the state to break even on production costs. Any part of the $50 fee to drivers on top of production costs would go toward the state's fund to fix deteriorating roads and bridges. Tourism is the state's second largest industry, accounting for $2.6 billion each year. Currently, other states like Utah, New York and Idaho promote their mountains with ski-specific license plates. Quillz
Looks nice, especially for a "standard" state license plate.

oo_nrb
Is this to replace Colorado's completely awesome green/white plates? No, the green and the light blue ones are still around and will be around. It's just to add to the plethora of official alternate plates you can have here. A rough count that I just did says that the new Ski Country plate will bring the total number of different plate designs to 99.
