Project Wha Challenge!

In the process of converting Frylock's WHA concepts to NHL 2004 add-ons (see this thread for reference), I have realized that the game doesn't allow for leagues smaller than 30 teams. The concepts I have converted (or am still converting) into "released" add-ons will total 26. This leaves me with four empty teams.

So...I figured that I'd start a contest for board members to design fantasy team add-ons. You can use whatever template you like, but I have the following requirements/requests for completed packages:

1) I'll need the logos (however many you make) available as seperate files, PREFERABLY in vector format, although a good-sized (like, say, 300x300 pixels) raster can certainly work.

2) I may need the font(s) you use...or, at least, your number resource.

3) I'd like to keep these realistic. Cities in North America, "major league" sounding nicknames, etc. A "Tokyo Sumos" concept, however well executed, simply wouldn't be believable.

4) Avoid doubling up on cities...which includes cities I've already used (see the bottom of this post for that list). I'd kind of like to avoid cities with current NHL franchises, but that's not critical.

5) The logos should be original, or used with the permission of the creator. Please refrain from recycling existing logos, regardless of what sport it's being recycled from. You are allowed (encouraged, even) to recycle concepts you've posted before, as long as they meet the other criteria.

6) Please design at least one uniform (jersey, shorts, socks) along with the logo(s). Feel free to create as many as you want per entry, bear in mind that NHL2004 can handle up to ten jerseys per team.

That's pretty much it. Obviously, you will be credited in the release notes.

The contest, as of yet, does not have a closing date...probably within 2-3 weeks, but I'll post a firm deadline when I feel that I have enough candidates. Once the submissions and voting is finished, I will use the top four vote-getters.

Here's the list of cities that are not to be used

Baltimore

Birmingham

Calgary

Chicago

Cincinnati

Cleveland

Denver

Edmonton

Florida (Orlando)

Houston

Indianapolis

Los Angeles (including Anaheim/Orange County)

Miami

Michigan (Detroit)

Minnesota (Minneapolis/St. Paul)

New England (Hartford)

New Jersey

New York

Ottawa

Phoenix

Quebec (city)

San Diego

Vancouver

Winnipeg

Let the games begin!

Erm...

If you visited the Cyber-NHL forums, you'd know that there is already a Project WHA well under way, over there.

Sorry to piss on your parade Frylock, but they've already gotten to Phoenix.

Way ahead of you.

I could still do a new concept for a Milwaukee team, but I already have a couple in my archives.

Here's my rework of the AHL Milwaukee Admirals: http://www.angelfire.com/wi3/fu/ads.gif

And here's one of the first concepts I ever did (hence the sorry ass quality), the Milwaukee Black Ice: http://www.angelfire.com/wi3/fu/blackice.jpg

Suigi...

THAT'S ME! I'm the one doing Project WHA, based on Frylock's concepts. The challenge is to fill out the extra NHL teams that are left over after converting all of Frylock's uniforms.

*shoots self in forehead*

How did I know this would happen?!

Argh.

What is this, the second time now I've done that?

Yeah, I think it is the second time. I suppose the fact that I go under a different name there can cause some confusion, though. :)

Pitt that's a great logo you put on there. The colors are awesome, too. The only thing I'd say is that it looks kinda weird with the name extending onto the meshing. Other than that it looks awesome! I'm still working on my concept.

Generally, the mesh doesn't extend into that part of the jersey on the back. The Sharks' jerseys, for example, have it on the sides, extending to the points on the front.
