Gridiron League of America

Just came across this thread, and I wanted to throw in my $0.02 about team locations and names. I would really like to see the Columbus Bullies move to Canton and become the Bulldogs as a nod to one of the first pro football teams. I think it would make an excellent concept too.

If it is any consolation, Canton is where I was going to choose the "Championship" to be at. I also didn't want to have a "Bulldogs" identity conflicting with the Cleveland Browns.

Let's take another crack at this...

Birmingham, Alabama

Birmingham Forge

-I picture the logo to be that of Vulcan hammering an iron football on an anvil.

Boise, Idaho

Idaho Miners

-Idaho is known as the Gem State so it seems natural that a 49er-esque theme might come up.

Los Angeles, California

California Condors

-The Condor is the state bird of California. It's been endangered, but its making a great comeback.

Louisville, Kentucky

Kentucky Elk

-Kentucky is home to one of the largest herds of elf in the east. I picture antlers on their helmets like wings of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Milwaukee Blitz

-Milwaukee having a very large German population, might appreciate a nickname such as this. "Blitz" is German for lightning and of course is a football term for defense.

New York/New Jersey

New York Juggernauts

-Also a term for football, but primarily in colloquial English usage is a literal or metaphorical force regarded as mercilessly destructive and unstoppable.

Norfolk, Virginia

Virginia Swashbucklers

-Keeping with the nautical theme. A twist on a pirate theme.

Omaha, Nebraska

Omaha Thunderbirds

-Nebraska's part of the Great Plains. The Thunderbird is part of the Lakota mythology. I picture a logo an uniform that is both respectful and pays homage to the legend.

Salt Lake City, Utah

Utah Stingers

-Utah is the Beehive State.

San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio Sidewinders

-It actually has several meanings: the Sidewinder Rattlesnakes that can be found in Texas, a type of quick-draw gun fighting and by extension a nickname for a quarterback.

The Elk population is mainly in the Eastern part of the state which is a 3-4 hour drive from Louisville. Therefore, the Louisville Elk would not be efficient. However, the Louisville Thoroughbreds would be more appropriate for the city that in known for the Kentucky Derby.

I present the full package of the Birmingham Vulcans. The focus of this team's uniforms were to go for a simple, yet classic look.

This Milwaukee native agrees. It has the added bonus of giving the team the MB initials like our other teams. Hopefully JH42XCC changes his mind because I'm not sure what Rough Riders is supposed to reference (Teddy Roosevelt getting shot here?).

Actually, Rough Riders (or Riders for short) would be a reference to Harley-Davidson, a motorcycle manufacturer founded and headquartered in Milwaukee.

Hmm... where did you hear that? I grew up around bikers (one of my uncles even rode with the 15s when he was out west) and I've heard them called Road Hogs, Irons, and Iron Horses, but never Rough Riders.

what's the square around the numbers supposed to represent?

Nothing. I merely placed it there within the template to help get numbers in the right position. I just forgot to take them out. I'm going to make an edit within the next 24 hours.

The next team up...the Columbus Bullies. This was honestly a team that gave me some trouble when I was trying to figure out what to base their identity off of. I did some research online and found that the original team from the 30's-40's AFL had based their name from a bull. When creating the team's emblems and uniforms I didn't want to go crazy. This team's name is in tribute to the old team from AFL II and III. So, I looked to the Los Angeles Rams and the Cleveland Browns for some inspiration. The primary logo is simple. It is a stylized B with Columbus written vertically, the primary uniforms are very heavily Rams inspired but with bull horns, and the colors are based upon the former team's. All in all, I like how this turned out and I hope you do, too.
