Doesn't change the fact that it could have commissioned a very good horse logo of its own (there was a time before each of those logos, after all), if it wasn't both lazy and dishonest.

I 100% agree. And for what it's worth the school was not in a lower class neighborhood. There was enough money in the budget to commission a nice brand identity. Granted, we didnt have the best athletics program and there wasn't a lot of community interest in the sports but still...

Try finding a good horse logo that's not from SMU or the Broncos (Denver and Boise)

You're not trying hard enough.
