Rixaroo
When Florida Gulf Coast made it to the Sweet 16 (a first for a #15 seed) I loved the unis and colors, but was majorly disappointed in the nickname; Eagles. Very disappointing. My friends and I just called them the Fightin' Clams instead. I don't understand why these small colleges use such boring nicknames. Gothamite
A misguided attempt to sound larger than they really are? Taking themselves too seriously? The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
(probably)notabandwagonfan
Oh, one more. Thunder completely missed. So generic but because they're good, they'll never change.
Needschat
The novel by James Fenimore Cooper, "Last of the Mohicans", was based in upstate NY's Adirondack Mountains, near present day village of Lake George. Natty Bumppo, friend/blood brother to the titular Chingachgook, was called Hawkeye.Minutes south of Lake George is Glens Falls, where several minor league hockey teams have called home - Red Wings, IceHawks, Frostbite, Phantoms, and now Flames. No one's thought of having a team called the "Adirondack Hawkeyes"? Oh what could have been....
