Carolingian Steamroller
Back with a brand new series! One of my absolute favorite periods in baseball uniform history was the period immediately at the beginning of the double-knit era. Starting with the Pirates in 1970, Major League teams switched from flannels to brand new polyester double-ply technology. Team didn't quite know exactly what to do with the new fabric. The result was a series of gorgeous, modern, colorful but clean uniform styles like the '70s Red Sox, orange-centric shooting star Astros, Swingin' A's, and feathered Braves. Things got a little crazy in the late '70s and early '80s and conservative button downs reasserted their presence. But what if it hadn't gone that way? What if the pullover and sansabelt look had stuck? The uniforms would have been modernized (I doubt we'd see the '83 Sox in the current era) but maybe instead of harking back to the flannel era, maybe baseball goes back to the early double-knits. So this series is based on that alternative history. These are contemporary uniforms but designed with the idea that the pullover era never ended but just evolved along the same lines that uniforms took to this day. We start with the champs. I've used the same revised logos that I used for my original MLB series but adapted them into the early 70's pullover look (minus the blue sleeve caps). I've added white stripes to the stirrups to better match the cap. Powder blue and white dominate the roads and I'm throwing in a blue alt for fun. Enjoy! coco1997
Beautiful Cubs concept, and a brilliant idea for a series! I'll be following this one closely. One small nitpick is the red eyes on the sleeve logo, which makes the lovable cub look a little sinister. What if you kept the nose red but made the eyes blue? Carolingian Steamroller
Yeah, maybe a little too sinister. So the classic Cubbie face returns.

Carolingian Steamroller
Probably just a few depending on which team is really enhanced by it.
MJD7
I really like this idea, I'm interested to see how you make the look appear more contemporary as the series goes on! The Cubs look good, and are a nice team to start with for this. I think you could afford to infuse some red into the away uniform, but that's just personal opinion. Carolingian Steamroller
It's supposed to all be an alternative 2017 in which the pullover era never ended. So expect a few elements like modern collar shapes, scripts, and designs.
Carolingian Steamroller
Continuing the NL Central with the Reds. Not much needed to be altered from the Big Red Machine. I have the feeling that had the double era continued, this would be the new Yankee pinstripes. Slight adjustment to the primary logo as I've substituted the block script in the "C" with the more rounded letters from the 1913 club. This also meant that I could swap in rounded numbers and round off the hard angles on the road script. Slight change to the jersey as all striping is now two stripes rather than three. coco1997
Nice look for the Reds. I think this is one case where the team should definitely get a solid colored alt. Maybe an inverted version of the home jersey?
Carolingian Steamroller
Ok this may be a crazy idea but inspired by the author of the Haitian declaration of Independence, who declared that after two cups of coffee and three shots of rum the words came naturally, I have my Reds alt. One year the Reds road uniforms had nearly cutoff sleeves. It was a strange look but a distinctive one, so why not bring it back? I've used the REDS word mark to give it clean look and shoulder numbers.
coco1997
Now that's what I'm talking about. VERY cool.
Carolingian Steamroller
Today we have the Brewers from Milwaukee's other major sports team, Marquette Basketball. I love the alternating stripes in Marquette's recent uniforms and the numbers on top of the script in the current set. For a script, I've taken the Brewers original script (taken from the Pilots) and straightened it out. The "M" logo is an attempt to redo the classic logo from the Braves into more modern script. coco1997
Awesome! I think @Discrimihater would approve of this concept. I'm curious, what shade of blue did you use for the logo and road uniform?

coco1997
I think the asymmetry of the Wisconsin outline is kind of throwing me off, but otherwise it's a nice idea.
Carolingian Steamroller
Pittsburgh Pirates today. I really love the 1970 Pirates uniform and it forms the basis of this set. Thanks to @coco1997 for helping me chose to go with a modified bumblebee for the road uniform rather than grey. Testing out the alternate with yellow pants, open to suggestions on other directions. C&C as always. Enjoy!
coco1997
I LOVE the horizontal stripe design across the chest of the black alt. Very clever way to take a unique design cue from Pittsburgh's past and make it look new and modern. Kudos to you for bringing back the smiling pirate logo, and I like the new roundel with the stars representing each of the Pirates' championships. Keep it up. Can't wait to see the Cards! Victormrey
When you told me your idea for this series, I knew it was going to be good... But man, it's better than what I imagined! Unique and stunning designs, Brewers are my fav for the moment.
MJD7
The Pirates look great! I also really like the number font you decided to use for the Reds set, it fits very well. The Brewers would take some getting used to, but I like that it's a step in a modern and unique direction, especially with the navy alternate. I really like the color scheme of that set. Overall, nice job so far!
