  1. With MLS eventually going to 30, maybe 32 teams there's almost not way to avoid an actual clash at some point.

While I have previously said I dislike the idea of going white heavy It would make sense to me if MLS  just said all teams wear their primary and all clash should be white. I'd really like MLS to lean on a primary look and a clash as opposed to home/away/3rd.

I might just be old school. Excuse me while I yell at some kids to get off my lawn.

In my not so humble opinion, this is the best uniform match up in the NFL

    I don't think it's opinion. I think it's fact.
I don't care for either team but the looks, for the most part, have been around since Jesus was watching the NFL in his manger. History + good aesthetics make it a fact*.

The Pats throwbacks and the Bill in all white at #4? Blame the competition and the long johns look with the socks. The throwbacks are the Patriots best look. You can disagree if you want, but you'll still be wrong.

I love my Bills and I think the Pats throwbacks are great but there needed to be a little less white. Even if the Bills just wore some blue socks.......and here I go talking about socks again.

*- obviously i'm being a bit tongue in cheek here. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Plus a new logo next year too. As an outside is Joey Saputo to blame for everything?

Here's a summary of what happened.

I don't necessarily believe the players leaving are all negative, these are pretty big sales for the team and 2 of the 3 came off the backs of some pretty good World Cup appearances as well.

I do think Joey is and has been a bit of a problem for some time. He always seems to be upset at someone or something and Montreal......whatever the hell they want to be called now.....has not been able to have any real consistancy.

I hope that Bobby Smyrniotis doesn't go there. He's doing good things with Forge and I'm concerned he'll just get canned within 2 years anyway.

The NLL returns this weekend! I'm super excited for this season, so I thought I'd put a little 2022-23 prediction together.

    WEST

    San Diego 14-4

    Colorado 11-7

    Panther City 10-8

    Vancouver 8-10

    Saskatchewan 8-10

    Calgary 6-12

    Las Vegas 4-14

    EAST

    Toronto 13-5

    Buffalo 12-6

    Halifax 11-7

    New York 10-8

    Philadelphia 9-9*

    Georgia 7-11

    Albany 7-11

    Rochester 5-13

Colorado edges past San Diego in three games in the West Final, while Toronto sweeps Buffalo in the East Final.

Toronto defeats Colorado in three games for the championship.

On another note, I really hope the league itself is in a good spot. It seems like Nicky Sak did pretty well as commissioner, I hope we see more of the same from Brett Frood.

I hope your prediction is correct. I guessed it'd be toronto v San Diego bit I'll take toronto beating anyone. ;)

I'm optimistic that Brett Frood will do well. It will be less "sexy" in the sense that it will be less big moves and more stability moves (like the agreement with the players this off season) but I think that's OK after Nick's run had a bunch of expansion.

I'm just glad that the CPL has promised to return to Edmonton in the future with the right ownership and facility.

I'll cut the Faths a little slack, going back to the NASL days they built an academy and gave it a go for 10 seasons (with a year off in 2018) but attendance never was there so they clearly were just losing money every year.

I hope they can get a better stadium with the new ownership and it becomes a success because Edmonton should be in the CPL.

The problem was that they were so clearly the team playing second fiddle to the G-ddamn Nets, New York's second fiddle basketball team. They couldn't even move their full collection of banners into Barclay's because it embarrassed the Nets due to their own lack of success.

Everything about it seemed really embarrassing to the NHL, to play catch-up to a NBA team like that. Factor in the terrible experience that was the Barclay's era and... yeah. Best to memory hole that whole era of Isles hockey.

    Not the WHOLE era.

Honky the Honda deserves his rightful place in the Islanders hall of fame 😋

  7. Came across this yesterday ( I missed it over the weekend):

    https://northerntribune.ca/canadian-premier-league-kelowna-expansion-award/

The short is it sounds like the CPL is ready to announce Kelowna, BC as an expansion city.

The more interesting/detailed notes are that it sounds like the CPL wants to wait for confirmation of a stadium getting built as Saskatoon is still in limbo due to working on the stadium and the impending news of FC Edmonton shutting down are both negatives so they want to make sure they have all ducks in a row before making this announcement.

My thoughts, as someone who has family in Kelowna and visits with some regularity; The area that is being proposed for the stadium is not bad.  Just west of it (as of August when I was last there) they are starting work on some new condo or apartment buildings and there are a number of small breweries/wineries/restaurants in the area. That whole area is transforming from industrial to a more dense population/extension of the downtown. I think it would be a fit.

In the short term, if they wanted to get a team on the field ASAP they could probably use the Apple Bowl. It's 2000ish seats but there's a lot of room around it to add some temporary risers if needed.

I suddenly realized that maybe I care more about socks than I thought I did.

    Sock are funny, aren't they?

Even when the norm became just solid colours it still added some contrast. The whole white socks/long johns look has really hurt uniforms.

It feels like the next evolution (which would SUCK) is basically just having yoga pants and ditching the traditional high socks. The cooperalls of football for lack of a better term.

This is a football thread so I won't go off anymore than to say baseball has also has sock issues. The socks need more love.

  9. The NLL camps have opened so I figured it was time to start the 2023 thread....even if we're still a few months away from 2023.

A couple items of note. The Rock have added a new home uniform shoulder patch:

    Image

This year the Las Vegas Desert Dogs will also enter the league. This is the new expansion team to play at the former Mandalay Bay arena on the strip in Vegas. The team is owned by Joseph Tsai (who also owns the San Diego Seals and the Brooklyn Nets), Wayne Gretzky, Steve Nash and Dustin Johnson.

The team has opted to use black and white as their colour scheme and the jerseys are basically plain with a couple stripes on the arms. Some promotional pics (below) show that the shorts will have some diagonal stripes too.

Based on these promo pics i've seen so far it looks like New York will have 2 jersey sponsors and may half the league will have 1

Just putting this out there but maybe the CPL should of been put under the MLS/USL umbrella and could of been put into EAST WEST divisions to save on travel?

    We need our own league.

There's Canadian player quotas that's not happening (or at least isn't a priority) in the US leagues. Which is fine, they should be focused on their program. But Canada isn't in the world cup unless we don't create a pathway for Canadian players to develop.

Also congrats to Forge FC on winning their 3rd Canadian Premier League title in the four year history of the league. They defeated top club Atletico Ottawa today in the nations capitol.

Very happy about this but there's been more negative for the CPL coming out of the weekend than positive.

The word is that Edmonton will not return next year and the Faths (the owners) basically have a deal in place, should the CPL find a replacement, that they have to sign off on letting a new team come into the market. Likely the only way to get back to Edmonton is selling that franchise.

Word is that York and Winnipeg aren't in good shape either and could walk (far less likely than Edmonton right now). The comment i've heard is "they need things to change". Obviously this is a financial thing but with a stadium being planned to be built for York in which they basically got free land I would assume that would change things for that club.

Anyway, I could see Edmonton being out next year and the players they own going to Vancouver.

I mean if you want to get technical, that's precisely what the Sharks did this round.

There's the weird Seals to Barons then the merge with the North Stars.

Then the North Stars have the dispersal draft for San Jose......so there is a very weak and weird link there but it's there.
