  1. Yeah I’m sort of torn on the City Connect look for the Giants. They’re gaudy as all hell, and I still don’t love a lot of it. But they’re like 12-1 in them which rules, and the addition of the orange helmet also rules. If they’re gonna go gaudy, they might as well go full out.

Hey, that’s my buddy Villyan Bijev in the first photo. Great dude. Know him from my time with the team up north.

Speaking of the Oakland A’s of soccer, they just put out another stadium rendering that’ll never get built.

I'm so mad at Tom Brady. Some said he waited to inform of his decision to retire until after the season ended because he didn't want a Kobe/Jeter like farewell tour, then made us watch 20 combined hours of THANK YOU GOAT highlight packages and sitdown interviews, hijacked much of the Super Bowl coverage, and then comes back anyways so now he's going to get a Kobe/Jeter like farewell tour. It's like Brett Favre's never-ending retirement times 5. Go Away.

If it makes you feel any better, at least he totally upstaged Big Ben on his retirement only to not retire. You can’t tell me you don’t get a little joy out of that part of it.

Doesn't explain how Nike is able to outfit everyone else, and I would imagine Nike has fabric at every sweatshop everywhere.  But I'm neither an expert in sportswear manufacturing nor economics, so take that with the proverbial grain of salt

But we know that when they repealed the one-helmet rule, teams were given a deadline to add a second helmet for 2022.  We also know that the deadline was only for helmets, as the deadline for 2022 jerseys had already passed, and that teams would need to wait till 2023 if they were adding a new jersey.  We also now know (I'm assuming canzman knows his stuff) that TB removed the throwback jersey from their ensemble when they redesigned two seasons ago.

    Therefore, they're lying.

That part is where I think you may be incorrect. Textile mills in particular were hit very hard by the lockdowns, and the companies that used to have pretty vast reserves of that kind of stuff are finding their stock dwindling. One of the items I buy is a very common brand and style of shoe, and we haven’t been able to get them in months because the manufacturers are having issues even getting enough of the proper thread to stitch it all together. They’ve actually stopped taking new orders for this product, and it’s the first time that model, which has been around for YEARS, has ever had that happen. Then when we do get shipments is comes rush ordered in bulk numbers and the shipping companies are having their own issues moving it, because it’s an industry wide issue right now. Every little bump in the line is going to cause huge slowdowns, and while companies like Nike should have the resources to overcompensate a bit, they also have the highest demand. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just put off the jersey issue a year because they can’t guarantee that they’ll receive the stock they want. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Riddell/Schutt/etc want to hold off on production because another industry that’s been hit particularly hard by this is raw plastics.

Im sure you’re correct with most of your thinking. I don’t trust Nike as far as I can throw Aaron Donald, but I do know from personal experience that the apparel industry in general right now is playing catch-up, and it’s probably going to be a few more years (sans more serious COVID restrictions) before it’s back on course.

Are they just using "supply chain issues" to cover up that it's the NFL rule that they had to have declared for the throwback jersey two years ago - before the one-helmet rule was lifted?

I thought it was common knowledge that 2023 was the first year most teams would be able to do a throwback uniform that required a different shell, unless they kept them in the style guide for the last however many years.

When you look at how frequently NBA and NHL teams release new uniforms, it seems a little fishy that the "supply chain" is to blame, when we already know there's a rule.

TBH, I believe them. I recently took a job as a buyer for a pretty small winter sports apparel company (a somewhat new profession for me) and basically the entire thing has been dealing with backlog from the past two years and trying to figure out what we’re gonna do when half of our orders just don’t show up. It’s been pretty stressful, and the company I work for would be an eyelash on the Nike body.

Buccaneers announce the return of the throwbacks in 2023

Love it. I can wait a year for this. Probably better that they don’t trot out there in these with Blane Gabbert manning the ship.

If nothing else you gotta respect how they try to do something relatively bold and different by prominently featuring a brightly colored yellow on the uniform, something not common in in sports in general, let alone pro football.

And I know that side panels just as a general rule are almost always goofy on a football uniform, but I actually kinda like how the diagonal stripes work going all the way up like that. A few teams tried it and while none of them are full out fantastic, this is definitely the best execution of them IMO. And the diagonal center stripe in the helmet is different but not distracting, either.

They sort of have an Arizona Hotshots vibe to them, and that’s one of my guilty pleasure favorite football unis ever.

At worst it was a bit boring.

But at least there was scoring unlike Super Bowl LIII.

Even before the game, this had a pretty strong Super Bowl 50 feel to me. The vibe just felt off the entire time. I think California just doesn’t do the Super Bowl very well, for many different reasons.

As for the game, I expected it to be kinda like 50, where on one side you had a young, dynamic, league changing guy, but it didn’t really matter because the o line was so bad and the d line was one of, if not the very best in the league. Kinda hard to really expect a dude to do much with that. In that sense I was surprised. The Bengals played a lot better than I expected, and props to them. Part of that though was that the Beckham injury and the complete lack of a running game left that offense a anemic and one dimensional. And Stafford was barely capable of handling that, yet was kinda bailed out in the clutch by a pretty questionable penalty. Which is oh so par for the course for this league at this point.

It’s just a bummer. I expected the Rams to look mostly bad and still win because the Bengals O line couldn’t pull through. Then you sprinkle in the refs playing more of a part than they should and it just landed like a bit of a wet turd. It was boring in that it was pretty predictable.

The Rams haven’t yet worn their “road” jerseys in the playoffs (Tampa wore white), so couldn’t they still designate the alt as their “road” set for the playoffs?

Rams won their only Super Bowl in basically that white jersey. If they either choose to or get stuck playing a Super Bowl in that god awful bone set, I’m gonna be annoyed as hell.

Too bad they can't wear their black jerseys.

I hate the dumb rule that teams can't wear their Alts in the Super Bowl.

Though I have a feeling Bengals are going to choose to wear white.

Bengals are the home team, and the black jerseys are their primary home jerseys. Bucs choosing white last year and a repeat team made it all kinda more difficult to remember.

  11. I was born in the Bay Area and am a lifelong Nor Cal guy who just missed any of the Niners title runs (first Super Bowl I remember was the year after their last win). I decided pretty early on that 49ers fandom was pretty miserable, and latched onto, stupidly, the Bucs. Since then, I’ve seen my team be an absolute tire fire and still back their way to two Super Bowl wins. Since then, I’ve seen the  Niners do, well, what they did tonight, about a thousand times. I’m so SO happy I dodged that bullet.

Anyway, Niners need to load Jimmy G onto a dinghy and push him out into the Pacific Ocean. Then go get Rodgers. If not, just fold that franchise.

Well, not exactly what I wanted, but a Rams Bengals Super Bowl is weird as all :censored: and I can absolutely get behind that. Go Bengals.
