  1. Whole lotta Bills over Brady predictions being thrown around here, which has always had a pretty good ROI for the Bills, so, good luck!

This is probably the last time I get to act real smug as a fan for awhile, so I’m gonna enjoy it. Bucs making another Super Bowl would rule, but they have to stay healthy first. They’ve already lost Ryan Jensen probably for the season, and the WR core is banged up going into camp. The defense is going to be the real key and idk if they did enough to shore some of the gaps in the secondary that killed them last year. We’ll see, I guess.

I like how no one's mentioned anything about the X Games yet...guess we know where we stand on that 😃

Those are very much sports. The level of difficulty and risk of personal injury is basically beyond any other sport I’ve done. People who don’t see things like skateboarding/snowboarding/bmx as sports usually don’t have any experience doing them.

Kinda amazing the current Cardinals look has lasted as long as it has.

It debuted in 2005 and predates their current stadium.

I almost instinctually posted that you were wrong and that the stadium and those unis debuted simultaneously, but then I looked it up and…

My mind is completely blown. I had absolutely no idea that this current uni set was old enough to have seen SDS. That’s insane. When you put it that way, I think they basically have to change their look and soon. That’s FAR too long for any team to look that meh to bad.

  4. I have a weird connection to skiing/snowboarding due to where I grew up, and have had plenty of winters where I’ve been on the hill 100+ days a season (usually working, but in the industry so I was on skis/a board). But somewhat surprisingly, never had any interest in hockey. When I was a kid I basically did at least one season of every sport I could possibly think of from football/baseball/basketball/soccer to boxing to rugby mixed in with snow sports. But even with that, I actively avoided hockey. I never learned to skate very well, and there’s just something about the sport that I never found very appealing. It’s a combination of a lot of things I just don’t generally like by themselves all combined into one. The whole thing just felt like wrestling/boxing on skates and always seemed sort of brutally comical to play. I got into watching it for awhile when I was younger, but I only ever got so interested in it. Now my main interest is just marveling at how dysfunctional the NHL is.

Fake as all :censored:. You can tell by the sheen on the jersey (the fake throwbacks almost always have that weird shine to them) and the bubbled stitching on the letters. The bubble effect on the stitching is from trying to use a heavy x stitch with thread that’s a heavier weight than the material it’s stitching. The effect always leaves the edges looking too rounded and not clean. Telltale sign in those.

Maybe hats are harder to tell because it's pretty easy to spot fake jerseys.

Ehh, not really. The actual fakes are pretty easy to spot. What’s more difficult is trying to spot the imposter hats New Era themselves put out and passed them off as US made on field authentics. Basically the last decade of their domestic production was them counterfeiting themselves, in a sense.

Who has nostalgia for the Senators? They had been gone for 35 years by the time the Nats came around and hadn't been relevant since the 1930s

Washington DC did. Just look at all of the early Washington MLB (pre announcing the name Nationals) press conferences. Basically everyone was wearing the retro curly W hats. I’d even say it’s sort of what led them to even using the curly W for the Nationals, it seems. The original uniform set had a gold beveled W that went with it that ended up being ditched late in the design process and was never used.

Can’t find a pic, but here’s an article

I’ve seen the gold-beveled W that was designed to match the original unis, and it’s a thing of beauty. A crying shame the team didn’t use it. Plus, the original Senators treatment of the curly W was superior to the slightly modified current version. And here’s where I’ll agree with you completely: I know for a fact that the Nats were forced to drop Radom’s custom-designed new W for a rehash of the Senators W by Bud Selig personally, and this was a result of the man’s lifelong pattern of historical denial. He couldn’t wish away Atlanta to rename his own franchise the Braves, but he could force the 2005 Nats to pretend to be the 1972 Senators.

It’s one of the reasons why I’ve always disliked the curly W for the Nationals. It’s completely forced, and imo is WAY inferior to what they were going to originally use.

I think what bugs me more about the Bucs doing it is that the color scheme becomes so much more pewter-heavy, whereas when a team like the Dolphins does it, they still feel like an aqua team. The numbers, the socks, etc. are still all aqua. The Bucs have a nice color scheme that works better with the red jersey.

Totally understand that, and if they were still using the original Super Bowl unis, I would agree. While I’m very happy they tried to bring that set back, there are a few things about it that just feel kind of “off”, I guess. The lack of shine on the pants and how much darker the pewter is really stands out, and there are a few things about the overall design of the red jersey (that weird collar, mainly) that I find to be really distracting, as someone who’s basically been obsessed with the Bucs branding since 1997. When they wear the white jersey it just feels so much closer to that original set, and whatever feels off about it is just less noticeable IMO. It feels more like what it was originally intended as, I guess. If that makes any sense.

This is easily the best the Nats have ever looked and is one of my personal favorite uniforms of all time. Im an absolute sucker for gold. That set not only should’ve stuck around, they should’ve used these two hats along with it, DC and all. If the Twins can use a TC hat, then the Nats should be able to use a DC cap. Leave the curly W to Walgreens.

Is there any other team that has been nearly that erratic from year to year? All that's missing is a 2003 Tigers/2018 Orioles type season.

They didn’t sustain it quite as long, but the Giants mini run in the early 2010s was somewhat similar. Titles in 10, 12, and 14, and missed the playoffs completely in 09, 11, 13, and 15.

  11. I usually would rather see the Bucs in red, but the white jersey dominance really doesn’t bother me for several reasons. First off the current set isn’t as strong as their original pirate flag set, and I actually think the white jersey is a stronger look for them. The differences between the original Super Bowl set and the Brady Super Bowl set are subtle, but enough to make the white jersey the stronger option imo.

The other reason is because the Bucs have been wearing white at home FOREVER. They’ve sort of been the defacto Dolphins (some years even closer to defacto Cowboys), and usually only wear red for the second half of the season anyway. They’re just a super forgettable franchise most of the time so most non Bucs fans never really paid attention.

    I probably should, but I don’t hate it 🤷‍♂️

Looks like Michigan is doing a Warriors tribute for some strange reason or new uniforms for Golden State University or whatever, but it still looks nice.

  13. Spoiler

Small preface to say that I absolutely HATE the Dodgers. Did a gig of glee when Lasorda died.

That being said, this is crushing. Vin Scully represented a part of America that’s been gone for decades, but it’s the part that was very good and that I think is genuinely worthy of being missed. I just appreciate that we got to hear him as long as we did and that he was a part of so much of our comfort and structure. He’s the Mr. Rogers of baseball, in a sense.

RIP to the only good Dodger ever.

Question. Are NFL teams required to wear alternate uniforms? In my mind it's optional, if your team has them. Seriously, would the Rams have gotten in trouble had they chose not to wear the bone uniforms at all this season?

    No I don’t think so.

I’m sure it’s different in the NFL where the branding is so strong, but I’ve worked for pro sports teams where part of the uniform contract you sign with the manufacturer required a certain amount of different “on field/court/pitch” apparel. Most teams aren’t goi g to push back on something g like that, though. It really does require a lot of leverage to do something like that.

The Giants have something like 29 freaking shareholders. No wonder they don't spend. They all want a piece of the pie.

That’s a very good point. Really, they’ve become a microcosm of the Bay Area as a whole. Everything is too expensive to consolidate ownership, it takes approval from a dozen people to make any changes, and everyone wants their dividends without increasing their input. Holy :censored: that’s bleak.

  16. That sort of feels like what the Giants are doing. Hovering right around .500, five games back of the final playoff spot, yet they hang onto Rodon and Joc. Just, why?

I’ve been pretty patient with Farhan’s ability to incrementally increase the talent on the roster, but with the Dodgers and Padres being huge spenders, it feels more like the plan is to just throw :censored: at the wall and see what sticks. It feels frustratingly similar to what the Giants have always done outside of that 2010-2014 stretch. They have a lot of money coming off the books after this season (Rodon and Joc probably being two of them), and if they don’t use some of that make a huge move like bringing in Trea Turner and/or Aaron Judge, it’ll show that Farhan really has no plan. Again, which would feel like business as usual during the Sabean era.

They've been missing their (arguably) best player all season, and division-rival Dodgers are insanely good, but yeah, they should be. They're becoming Dodgers-Lite, with the scummy fan base seemingly included (based on some videos I've seen, anyway...I know every team has some bad fans, but it seems like Pads fans are getting worse)

No, they always sucked. They were just easier to ignore before.
