And there may be a new helmet on the way if the Stamps' social media team is to be believed:

Does the CFL still have the one helmet rule on the books? Because "possibly...😜" can be taken different ways, especially when we know there is that helmet with the 75th logo from that old Instagram clip of Bo.

I like the look, but it's curious that they'll wear them six out of seven times. So what does this mean for the away uniforms?

Probably just wear the normal away jerseys.

I’m gonna need to see a full view of these on a player for more than 2 seconds in a video.

In the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty One, how have teams not gotten around to including full-body pictures on the players with equipment as part of their initial release dump.

The website has a picture of Mitchell in the jersey, but it's only from the shoulders up.

Here's a picture from the Team Store account with retail jerseys though.

FWIW, I like them. I don't have a Stamps jersey and I might buy one of these.

The release says they'll be worn for six out of seven home games, and I assume that one remaining home game will be the black jerseys on Labour Day, so the primary home jersey looks like it won't be worn this year (during the regular season at least).

That's also a new set of pants because the Stamps don't currently have a white pair.

Still nothing on these. Maybe they decided against it, maybe they forgot, maybe they pushed it back, maybe it's Maybelline. Who knows.

Ask I shall receive I guess.

The thought was that were going to be a completely new home and road set, but it does look more like just a 75th anniversary throwback/fauxback.

It is reported that Ottawa is supposed to get a complete uniform overhaul, home away and most likely the 3rd that was supposed to debut last year.

Here's the article that mentions the new uniform:

It sounds like they'll be incorporating some plaid into the new uniforms, which should be a hit.

I went back to find last year's thread when the Stampeders jersey teasers came out and @Wackyriderfan14 posted this quote from Ambrosie

    Quote

“Calgary is going to have the first new jersey design for the 2020 season. Then the rest will be rolled out across the league, new jersey designs in 2021”

With the pandemic, and the resulting financial straits, they may have decided to push that endeavor back or squashed it for now. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if anything happens.

The Stampeders are rolling their 75th anniversary, which should have been last season had it been played, over into this upcoming season.

I noticed with today's schedule announcement graphic that the Stamps have made a slight change to the 75th anniversary logo, switching "1945 (horse) 2020" to "EST. (horse) 1945" at the top.

    DpzriS8.png

Not to get to into the weeds of seasons vs years when it comes to anniversaries, because it confuses me, but the graphic says "Celebrating 75 Years of Stampeder Football" while the original 75th anniversary related releases from before the 2020 season was cancelled use "season(s)". I don't think using "75 Years" is technically correct, again confuses me, but they probably aren't super worried about the semantics of an anniversary. Plus a CFL season takes place within the same calendar year, so "season" equaled "year" up until this year.

Trying to look up what the old releases used lead me to a 2021 schedule release video from November of 2020, which I forgot was a thing, using this new EST. 1945 anniversary logo so apparently the change happened back then. They're still using a Transactions graphic on Twitter with the old 1945-2020 logo, but I assume that's probably a pre-made template that nobody got around to changing.

They also appeared to be teasing new jerseys back around early March (and a guy on Reddit back then said he'd seen the jerseys and "confirmed" they were not just 75th anniversary throwbacks) but those teasers stopped once the pandemic started and I don't believe have returned, so there appear to be new Stampeders jerseys floating somewhere around in the ether.

Still nothing on these. Maybe they decided against it, maybe they forgot, maybe they pushed it back, maybe it's Maybelline. Who knows.

  7. Adrian Dater with a real humdinger of a question. He started the question and then it got away from him (or never had a destination in the first place) and dropped an f-bomb in the middle of it.

He tries to defend himself/go after Pete in the replies.

I believe I've mentioned it on the boards once or twice before, but a real improvement the switch to EDGE brought was the tailoring of the jerseys.

Pre-EDGE jerseys were so baggy. The arm stripe is almost in the gloves, the shoulder patch is on the upper arm, Skoula is almost drowning in the shoulders of his jersey.

Well I mean, come on. There's nothing to be read in social media profile pictures and social media graphics unless the teams want us to.

Your profile pic here, which I assume is the default picture for people without a picture uploaded, is a black and white version of the CCSLC logo. Does that mean the CCSLC is going to be changing colours?

And the black and white treatment on the logo for 2 weeks?

You know what, you cracked the case.

The Stars are going to be dropping green, a colour they have worn for their entire existence even going back to Minnesota, and changing to black and white next season because they are using a black and white logo for social media profile pics. They are  going to introduce it through profile pictures by using a black and white logo, which most likely is an already existing logo in their style guide, and slowly but surely work up to a full rebrand for next season.

The Coyotes Panthers and Leafs are also going to switch to rainbow colours too, based on their profile pictures, so be prepared for that also.

So are they trying to kill off the XFL then? Does this push the XFL to later in 2022, or even 2023?

A spring football league can work and I think it would benefit fans and players.

But all of these new leagues popping up every year separately to compete against each other? Never going to work.

If the XFL and USFL can find a way to work together and someday create a pipeline to the NFL. Then they might be on to something....

Keep in mind that the XFL already started talks about some sort of partnership/collaboration with the CFL. The CFL is the premier non-NFL football (professional) league and the XFL 2.0 seemed to at least be doing some things right until the pandemic and then another group with some big names swooped in to buy it.

I think whatever comes out of the CFL-XFL thing, even if it's nothing, would have ramifications on non-NFL professional football in the States.

Did they ditch the circle? I really liked the addition tbh. Never was a fan of the plain white silhouette. Just feels lacking as a primary mark.

It hasn't been fully ditched, but has moved back to an alternate logo. The mothership has the switch happening in 2019, which was when New Era took over.

I'd love to see the Saskatchewan, BC, and Calgary give their primary logos much needed updates. Make the outlines sharper so that the overall logo designs become improved and up to date.

What exactly would you want because those are all classic logos.

The Stamps, for example, the white horse is the symbol of the Stampeders and I don't know what you could change. They added a circle behind the logo for a couple years, but then switched back to just the horse.

  14. One of my favourite sports facts/trivia questions.

During the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, the LA Kings selected two future Hall of Famers.

They took Luc Robitaille in the ninth round and the other was their fourth round pick. Who was that player?

    Spoiler

    Tom Glavine

To add on, including those two Kings picks, there were five future Hall of Famers selected in the 1984 draft. The other three being Mario Lemieux, Brett Hull and Patrick Roy.

  15. The NAHL announced today that the Kansas City Scouts have been sold and are being relocated to Amarillo before they've even played a game.

    • Lamar Hunt Jr.'s company bought the Topeka franchise in April of 2018
    • Announced in February of 2020 that the team would move to Kansas City (or Shawnee, KS to be specific)  for the 20-21 season
    • Went dormant for the 20-21 season because of COVID with plans to return for the 21-22 season
    • Announced in March of 2021 that they were going to be dormant for the 21-22 season as well
    • NAHL announced today that the team is being sold to an Amarillo group and will relocate there for (and appear to be planning to play in) the 21-22 season

    Kind of a weird story.

I don't have an Athletic subscription, so I'm just going off the tweets from Athletic writers and the article preview, but it appears the AHL Pacific Division players aren't happy that they are having to play the "playoffs".

A non-binding survey of players by the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) yielded a 133-8 vote against a postseason tournament within the Pacific Division.

what do you mean “tell on some people”?

    It was a joke.

Like now you can see who's been the most active in a given thread so you can see when people have either a) an interest in the topic of a given thread, b) have strong opinions on the topic or, c) have a "reason" they're so active in the threads. Then you might be able jump to some conclusions based off that info like any good internet armchair detective/psychologist does.

Like you, for example, with your history of spats with the mods are #1 in both this thread and in the Ask A Mod thread. It tracks. I'm #4 in the Theme Parks thread, that also tracks.

There's nothing super scandalous on the boards, so nobody's wondering why someone would have a far and away #1 spot in something like a "What Rash is This?" thread, but if a thread ever gets contentious or is "controversial" you can see who's really involved.

There are people here worried about little things like pOpUlAtIoN and fIlLiNg 81 NiGhTs A yEaR in the these other places, but Medicine Hat is rocking a population of 63,260, so put that one into the pro column.

The stadium is also already called Athletic Park, so that's another point for Med Hat.

Just a curveball question - what location would be the biggest surprise for the move?

Doesn't have to be one of the locations already mentioned. I'm thinking Seattle Pilots level of unexpected here.

Well the Regina Red Sox summer collegiate team have recently submitted plans to the City of Regina for a new stadium and the City of Medicine Hat started three million dollars worth of renovations to the baseball stadium there a couple days ago. The Medicine Hat A's were Oakland's Rookie League team for the 1977 season (before they switched affiliation to the Jays the year after) so there is a history there...

I think either of those would be pretty surprising and unexpected.

Yeah, that should have been the name from day one. I never got "Sound Tigers." Maybe it's a submarine? Connecticut is stealthily a big military-industrial complex state. But they never had submarine imagery. I don't know.

I think it was as simple as "Tigers" like the animal and then "Sound" was added, because Bridgeport is on Long Island Sound, as descriptor of what kind of tiger it is. Like "Oil Kings" or "Wheat Kings" (or "River Kings" or "LumberKings" or "Red Raiders" or "Sun Devils" or "Blue Devils" or "Blue Jackets" or "Swamp Dragons" and so on), Edmonton and Brandon are both the Kings, when you break it down, but their domains are different. Edmonton are the Kings of Oil, Brandon are the Kings of Wheat and Bridgeport were the Tigers of (from?) the Sound.

Though, for the little I ever thought about the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the past, I never used to be entirely sure if it was the Bridgeport Sound Tigers or if it was the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, especially since there's the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL.

  21. The Toronto Rock announced today they are relocating to Hamilton beginning this next season.

However, the release goes out of it's way to specifically word the relocation as "relocat[ing] the team's home games" and the team will still be called the Toronto Rock, so they aren't committing to a "full" relocation (because they don't want to lose that precious Toronto branding/connection).

    Quote

Despite the move, and a history of intense sports rivalry between Hamilton and Toronto, the team's name will remain the same.

Dawick said a change was considered, but stressed that even though the team is relocating, he believes nothing has really changed.

"I do get the rivalry between Hamilton and Toronto but it's bigger than that," he said, adding that as the only team in Ontario, the Rock represent the entire province, especially the GTHA.

The owner said he's from Oakville, and that when he travels outside the area he tells people he's from Toronto.

"When you're travelling and you have a brand … no disrespect to the people in Hamilton … but around North America a lot of people would look at you and think you're talking about Bermuda or something like that," he said.

"I would say to anyone that's worried about the team name, come out and come out and see what we're going to do in this community. It's who we are. We are the Toronto Rock."

They used to be the Ontario Raiders when the previously played in Hamilton and the release says they represent the entire province, so why not go back to Ontario? (I mean, I know why they didn't, but still).

We'll see how Hamiltonians accept the name and Torontonians accept the move. Early Twitter reaction isn't great.
