No team names, logos, or jerseys were released at yesterday’s draft, but based on the teams’ social media posts announcing their picks we got a hint at team colours.

    Montreal - burgundy

    Toronto - blue

    Ottawa - red

    Boston - green

    New York - teal/seafoam

    Minnesota - purple

    My thoughts

    Montreal - Maroons-esque?

Toronto - Tied in with the Toronto sports blue

Ottawa - Tied in with Ottawa sports red

    Boston - Irish?

New York - Either Statue of Liberty (though I don't know if the WNBA/New York Liberty would like it) or something akin to the Fisherman/New York Riptide colour scheme

Minnesota - Vikings-esque maybe leading to some sort of Northern Lights or Auroras thing

Between Fox and The Rock, we are about to definitely find out who has been the biggest sucker over these past couple of years. And I genuinely can't predict an answer!

If these two reports are to be believed, I'm thinking it's the Rock.

Going to the calendar, the XFL championship was on May 13th and then the USFL championship was on July 1st.

Reading the tea leaves, I can't imagine the league that reportedly initiated merger talks shortly after the other league's season was over is in an advantageous position.

From what I've been reading, he was only asking players if they wanted to show pictures of their families as a "get to know you" situation and that he was sharing his own pictures as well. I've also read that it was really only the younger players who were complaining and that the veterans, even the Captain, Jenner, were defending him.

Just saying what I've read. Which hasn't been a lot.🤷‍♂️

    From ESPN

    Quote

On Thursday, Marty Walsh, NHLPA executive director, and assistant executive director Ron Hainsey, who played three seasons with Columbus (2005-08), met with Blue Jackets players at Nationwide Arena after a morning skate. The trip was not previously planned and was made after the allegations against Babcock were made public.

They also contacted some of Babcock's former players.

A source told ESPN the Blue Jackets welcomed the NHLPA investigation to determine whether there was any wrongdoing by Babcock.

Walsh had a previously planned meeting at the NHL headquarters in New York City on Friday morning. Whatever the previous agenda was, it was overwritten by the Babcock news. The NHLPA laid out what it learned by interviewing players.

According to a source with knowledge of the NHLPA, it became clear that veteran players like Jenner were having a much different experience with Babcock than young players were having.

What was reported by Bissonnette was "the tip of the iceberg," according to a source.

The NHL and NHLPA submitted their findings to the Blue Jackets. Ultimately, it was the team and Babcock that decided to part ways.

According to multiple sources, one of the most serious concerns was a meeting that occurred away from team facilities that included “several minutes” of looking through a phone. That was beyond the scope of what was initially understood to have occurred.

Interesting. I wonder if this is how it's going to be for the foreseeable future? Or is this just a "temporary", maybe off-the-shelf look until something permanent can be devised and rolled out?

I'm hoping it's a temporary thing because it's a pretty underwhelming brand right now, including the logos. The primary has issues and that shoulder patch stinks.

I caught Wenatchee Wild GM Bliss Littler on the Pipeline Podcast, he said that the Wild don't have enough time to design and order sets of uniforms for this year so they will be using the Winnipeg ICE template with Wild logos on them.

(Not sure if that means they will be sewing Wild logos directly over the ICE logos on the existing uniform sets? Or if they will be making new Wild jerseys with the Wild logo right on them, he didn't get into that level of detail.)

It appears Wenatchee was able to at least get the white jerseys in.

    Wild-vs-Americans-0995-copy-scaled.jpg

Not that those are anything special and they're now the third WHL team to currently be wearing this template, but they're definitely not the Ice jerseys.

  6. I think those old Carolina reds are very good but I didn't really like how the warning flag hem striping was handled on the whites. The sleeve striping on the red jersey at least gives the general impression of the hem striping but it doesn't on the white and the replacement red stripe has always looked like it's floating to me and not part of the larger hem stripe.

I don't like the socks either. There's already two different striping patterns on the jerseys to choose from and they went with a third on the socks.

Sorry, I didn't word it well.

What I mean is, lower the threshold for overturning the call. Like, if it looks more likely than not (like 51%), than change the call. It shouldn't have to be 100% irrefutable just because the call on the field was different.

I'm saying you'll always see the play better on the replay and you're already taking time to look at it so there's no reason to even consider the call on the field.

"More likely than not" shouldn't be the standard for replay because there's no baseline for what that means. 51% could mean different things to different people.

I don't know what he's talking about either but one thing that would go a long way to helping NFL officiating is to make them acutally use replay when they go to replay. Throw out the call on the field and have the sack to actually make a decision based on the replay. If I ever have to hear the phrase "not enough evidence to overturn it" one more time... This is not a he said, she said law case. You have literally dozens of camera angles to make a decision. Who cares what the guy standing 10 yards away who saw it in real time said?

What do you think they are doing when they go to replay? They use the dozens of camera angles to make a decision.

"not enough evidence to overturn it" means there isn't enough evidence on the film to make a decision on the replay. That's a result from looking at the replay.

Do they really need Kaaron at age 45?

Zach Wilson and the Jets just beat one of the best teams in the league. Good on them!

Unless he's done a lot of improving over the last offseason and training camp, Wilson is just not good enough for the level where the rest of the team is at (minus the o-line).

All this hype just for them to end up in the same position as last year four offensive snaps into the season.

With the billions that are bet legally, and the more billions illegally, the NFL Monopoly would have a mechanism where they could correct a "Clear and Obvious" missed called!

    What are you talking about?

Seems like the Dallas uniforms from the last few years made an impact. Looks good except for the odd red belt. Throws the whole look off.

The red belt was obviously chosen for a pop of colour but I wonder if the intention was to mimic the jersey colour placement and continue the red over blue look? The red belt is the red SMU and then, I can't tell from the photo, maybe there's the blue striping on the sides which would be the blue numbers.

  11. The Als shouldn't play mix and match between the primary home/away and the alternate because they don't match.

The helmet striping also doesn't match anything and the logo treatment on the helmet with the outlines is the only place that version of the logo exists (to my knowledge).

The Als brand design is very inconsistent.

Has there been any update to the rumour a few months back that the Jets will be changing their home/away to some version of their Heritage Classics for 2023/24?

I'm going to assume it's not going to be happening because the draft and the summer have came and went and we're almost at the new season without anything. I guess they could also surprise everyone but I don't know if it makes good business and logistical sense to drop a full rebrand so late in the offseason. Of all the recent rebrands I've found, they were all announced in the preceding June to the season.

IIRC, it also came from that kid is on Twitter X who I don't know how he became a source in the first place. I also don't know what his hit rate is, but he has gotten stuff wrong in the past.

Good call, - I think you're right, but still - nobody would ever draw an S that way.  You're still going bottom up and backwards.  Still think it's awkward to have the tail going that direction, when it's no more effort to have it go the traditional way.

The S looks like a flipped treble clef to me so it could also be drawn like that.

    treblesteps_1pgposter_p.jpg

Just flip the instructions and put it on an angle while extending the centre line into having a tail.

I also think steps 6 and 7 in this image should be part of step 1 or should be steps 2 and 3, but that's neither here nor there.

  14. First article of a mini-series detailing the breakup of the Hurricanes and the Wolves from the Wolves GM Wendell Young's  perspective.

    Quote

But even though the Wolves won the 2022 Calder Cup with the Carolina affiliation, it was won with plenty of turmoil along the way - including at one point, according to Young, Carolina threatening to fire the team's then-head coach Ryan Warsofsky during the 2022 Calder Cup Finals if he continued to play goaltender Alex Lyon over Hurricanes prospect goalie Pyotr Kochetkov.

    Quote

"Our coach was told: 'don't worry about winning this year'.," Young told InsideAHLHockey.com Monday, referring to Carolina brass telling then head-coach Brock Sheehan heading into the 2022-23 season to focus solely on developing the organization's top prospects.

Young's hands, despite being the AHL club's GM, were seemingly tied.

"Our coach was being dictated on who to play in goal," Young explained to InsideAHLHockey.com. "Lineups had to go through Carolina."

Young explained that attempts to improve the roster via trades/loans at the AHL level were repeatedly struck down by Carolina.

"We were trying to correct it all year. We didn't sign up [for this]," Young told InsideAHLHockey.com. "We didn't sign up to not be competitive."

This man killed the Mighty Ducks

It's a bit of an oversimplification He, as been spread around, was involved in the colour choice, but the change was always a possibility and the ownership went through a process.

    Quote

Samueli and his wife, Susan, purchased the team from the Walt Disney Company last year and said at that time they would consider making changes, including the team name.

Input from season ticket-holders was involved in the decision. "In selecting the name the Anaheim Ducks, we are respecting the heritage of a tremendous organization that has been a very important and visible part of the community, not to mention Western Conference champions and a Stanley Cup finalist," he said.

"The Mighty Ducks' organization very carefully considered the question of whether to change the team name, and spent many months evaluating various options," said David Paine, the CEO of PainePR, a public relations firm that coordinated the research effort for the Samuelis.

"The process included both qualitative research and a formal quantitative telephone survey of Mighty Ducks season ticket holders," Paine said. "While there was support for keeping the current name, the majority of those surveyed, nearly two-thirds, supported some sort of name change."

Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne said he's glad the team's name wasn't changed completely. "I'm very happy they kept the 'Ducks' because it's the original name," he said. "Taking the 'Mighty' away makes it more of a business. I think it's fine. With the new owners, I think they wanted a new identity.

"I think everybody's talking about it. I think the guys are happy about it."
