  1. Sigh… I’m sure it’s mostly 27-41 year olds freaking out over a helmet.
  2. There is a City connect tax but it's almost impossible to separate that from the fact that the City jerseys also all have more bells and whistles. That Rockies jersey has two patches and full sublimation. As far as Nike designed vs not that is totally a coincidence of the jerseys I picked. This Mike Trout Red is $440 while the newly Nike designed Royals Andrew Benintendi Gray is only $320. So it definitely isn't a feature of when the jersey arrived or whether Nike played a role in the design (when you take out the consideration that Nike designed jerseys tend to be more feature rich (piping, multi-layer twill, more patches, etc.)). The Royals are also a great example that even within a team some jerseys cost more than others. The White, Grey, and Blue are $320 while the light blues are $360 and the City is an appalling $475. So all that goes to show that the original poster was correct that prices vary seemingly based off of some combination of bells, whistles, and IT factor. The good old days, when I got into collecting jerseys as a kid the Reebok replicas were $45 or $50 and pretty good quality.
  3. Within teams Nike seems to have standardized prices but that’s newer as well. Majestic definitely had jerseys with more features costing more than jerseys with fewer features. But across teams the prices do vary seemingly based on things like layers of twill, piping, patches, etc. The fully loaded (player name and number non-custom) authentics vary quite a bit actually. Yankees Home Judge - $300 Reds Home Moustakas - $320 Rangers Home Seager - $440 Rockies City Blackmon - $475 There are a lot of teams in that $350-400 range but I picked out some extremes. There are also so,e bizarrely cheap authentics that I can’t figure out like a Trevor Story Red Sox Authentic priced at $205.
  4. I agree with everything you're saying here but it led me to a different perspective. The concept and jersey is awesome (minus that hideous yellow patch that way overemphasizes ski culture on a summer sport's uniform IMO). The pants push a little too much green for my taste and I wonder how an inverted white uniform would have looked. At the very least it would've solved the problem the weird white belt and shoes create. The color scheme is way too light on purple, they should've really leaned into purple AND green, something I think could've been accomplished with a mostly white uniform. And of course, one of the worst elements on any city connect uniform the hat, which has a logo described as a tourist sticker. It makes zero sense to try and connect with the city/state by using something inspired by tourists, it's on par with putting Mickey Mouse ears on an Angels hat... ugh. This could have been such a home run and they messed it up.
  5. I'm glad that the consensus on these has cooled since they were released. I have yet to buy a single piece of Rox city merchandise. Do you know how bad they had to mess up that to get me, a fifth gen. Coloradoan living in another state that eats up everything CO branded he can. Not to mention that I'm a lifelong fitted hat collector and haven't even considered buying that tourist sticker abomination they released. Hopefully that sentiment is shared and we get the Dodgers treatment with a new cap next season. Replacing the current tourist sticker with the alt mountain logo in purple or green would be a massive upgrade IMO.
  6. I worked at a sports apparel store in Colorado during college (2012-2016) and we had tons of people looking for Nets gear. It clearly had nothing to do with the team or market. They essentially created a successful lifestyle brand, which I think makes a ton of sense for a team in Brooklyn. Their subsequent infusion of color with the NJ Nets throwbacks and Biggie jerseys have been nice evolutions of that brand imo. I think what it comes down to is there are a lot of ways to develop a successful brand in the NBA but teams need to realize that Brooklyn doing it first with Jay Z does not mean you can pull it off in Utah with the Qualtrics guy. I think it’s also a good thing that there are brands in the league that both CaliforniaGlowing and the admiral dislike, not everyone needs classic styling and color usage or neon volt. The Nets brand is perfect for the people they were trying to appeal to.
  7. I don't know about y'all but I think the Avs need to fix their numbers, too much "vibration". Despite the joke I agree with pretty much everything Sport said on the topic.
  8. I think it's the complete opposite of what you're describing here. They shouldn't have any blue anywhere else if they want to treat it like gray facemarks in the NFL. I'm fine with a powder blue alt (I think the hats probably go too far but whatever) but don't want to see it used on other uniforms. If teams want to use it like a neutral color then it shouldn't be shoehorned in everywhere else. If they actually want it to be a color in the scheme then they need to fully commit like you said. What they did with the piping was the worst option IMO.
  9. I’ve noticed lots of praise from non-Rockies fans and people not from Colorado. But much of the negativity is from Coloradoans and Rox fans because it feels like they went for the easiest Colorado design possible and hit on what outsiders think CO is not what we feel it is. The idea of placing a “tourist sticker” on the cap is one of the most brain dead ideas I’ve ever heard for a CITY CONNECT uniform. I shouldn’t be surprised, the Rockies are nothing if not consistent. Consistently disappointing.
  10. I think they're going more for the Experts Only Double Diamond signs that you see on ski slopes. These signs aren't standardized to always be yellow but that makes more sense to me. Those stickers on license plates rotate on a four year basis as a way to indicate year, granted the 2022 color is yellow. I guess we'll know the intention for sure if the color changes to red next season.
  11. These are all so great! Loving the entire series. My only complaint would be that you've used state outlines on several states but they all look nice on their own. I know the idea of this isn't to compliment current plates but these look EXCELLENT together. I think a place like Nevada could really benefit from having two primary plates that touch on the various identities of the state. Others that come to mind would be Illinois having a Chicago style plate and a farming/ag plate.
  12. It is pretty hard to make these guys look less gritty and tough. I think that picture convinced me that it's the breezers that really bother me. Again it's one of those changes that was the 'right move' but didn't translate. Like the standardization of the Tigers D and the larger D hat logo.
  13. See, I totally disagree. Whether we like it or not there are a lot of unconscious perceptions tied to the color black. Seeing Sakic race down the ice in a black helmet and brawls with Red Wings definitely contributes to that gritty/tough perception that I associated with those Avs teams. Something about the blue just doesn't hold that same visual weight. I just can't imagine the photo below with that goofy blue helmet. You can say that's because I'm used to black but I think it's more than that. Is that stupid? Yeah, probably. But color theory is very real. I agree that if we flip it though it would've felt like an unjustified bizarre BFBS.
  14. I'm sure the bigger hockey fans and traditionalists have different thoughts but for my money that Flames uniform is one of the best in all of sports. Really gorgeous! Totally agree on the Avs, growing up in Colorado but not really following hockey closely I see those blue helmets and breezers and it somehow feels like a different franchise. I never would have guessed how important the black was to the look and feel of the Roy Avalanche teams until it was gone. Even worse, the blue numbers look so out of place on the back of the white sweater.
  15. Probably not his idea but there is no way that it happened without his approval.
  16. Agreed, this doesn't even make practical sense. The QR codes will be too small for anyone watching at the stadium to scan and there will be very few angles on TV that would make them scannable for 90% of the game. That's to say nothing of the fact that even in the photos they shared only 1/3 of them are picked up as scannable QR codes by my phone. Factor in the movement of players, jerseys being wrinkled and bunched, and needing a pretty large consistent shot of the code for someone to grab their phone and hold it up this makes 0 sense. This all comes across as an old coach trying desperately to seem like he understands tech and NIL and failing miserably.
  17. I agree with everything you said in your post but teams do in fact have color matched MLB logos on hats, jerseys, pants and even gear which you can see below. This has been the case since the late 90’s I believe.
  18. I’m more open to second helmets than a lot of folks on this board. But I’m going to attempt to answer this in good faith. I’m a Chiefs fan and the rivalry with the Raiders is one of my favorite in all of sports from a history and uniform perspective. Those games have looked nearly identical for 60 years and I find that to be so cool! The possibility of the Raiders breaking out black helmets and pants at Arrowhead against the Chiefs in their new white helmets makes me physically ill. I want Chiefs-Raiders to look like Chiefs-Raiders, not a random Purdue-Nebraska game. Now you may say that that could never happen but we’d probable say the same thing about Lakers-Celtics 10 years ago and look where that got us…
  19. 0-5 in both digits are far more traditional, 55 or 34 for example are for more traditional numbers than 29 and 17. The Olympics single digit numbers are the obvious exception to this.
  20. You've got this completely backwards. Topps was way more reliant on MLB than New Era is.
  21. I don't think it's happened yet but a Jordan Bulls jersey would be easier for Nike to accomplish than either of those examples or most other former players. No way they would do a player who still plays but is on a different team like your LeBron example. Unlike Duncan, Jordan obviously still has an active business relationship with Nike that is pretty unique. Also the demand for a Jordan Bulls jersey is more broad than just about any player would be. They did release commemorative Kobe black mamba Laker jerseys after he passed away. That's much more similar to what this Jordan jersey would be like.
  22. That is great news! The current logo in logo BP hats are probably the worst BP hats ever IMO. Also the classic mesh trucker style is really great. I got a Rays mesh back on-field and its one of my favorite New Era hats in a while.
  23. The word ‘classic’ especially in reference to design means traditional and/or enduring. By that standard the Chiefs have one of only a handful of truly classic uniforms in the NFL. It’s not being thrown around too loosely in this case you’re just applying a value judgement that doesn’t actually have anything to do with the word. On top of that, if your value judgement is that the Chiefs don’t have one of the best uniform sets in the league we’ll definitely have to agree to disagree. the Chiefs shouldn’t bring back the Texans throwbacks they’re very similar to what the team still wears, they feature a different name and state on the helmet, they only represent 3/60+ seasons, and they are a worse uniform than the primaries. They were fine for the AFL 50th and other big anniversaries but don’t need to be around any more than that. Not every team needs a throwback at their disposal.
  24. I get what you're saying about the Chiefs but what is the better alternative? They have kept their classic uniforms essentially unchanged for the entire existence of the franchise (I know there have been striping, number outline, TV number placement changes) so if you want a throwback it's going to be a minor detail like the facemark changing color. Or they could be like many other teams in the league which have diluted and/or changed uniforms so much that fans are clamoring for throwbacks. I'll take the Chiefs strategy over what a team like the Dolphins has done. Sure, we get great throwbacks occasionally but it's been at the expense of decades of uniforms that weren't as good as the throwbacks.
  25. I'm sure some/a lot of the patched jerseys flyersfan is seeing are bootleg. But it doesn't seem crazy to think that a pretty high percentage of real jerseys purchased in Philly would be from the official team store. Now that number may be quite a bit lower in Pittsburgh or State College but seems plausible in Philly.
