  1. Kansas's only hope is getting a paired invite with K-State. KU doesn't have the football program to warrant its own. But K-State doesn't quite have the academics. Together, with KU's basketball, they could be the 15th and 16th members, but not individually.

Kansas State has beaucoup federal research dollars coming in. Their academic credentials are not a problem.

  2. I'm late, did we wring our hands over Rutgers having Insufficient Academic Standards yet?

Ehhh...Rutgers isn't that crappy a school from an academic/research perspective. That was never an argument against them.

From my Dad, the Nebraska alum comes one gem of good news in all of this: Now that Illinois is in the West Division, he can watch Nebraska play in person on a biannual basis. Mind you Iowa City's only another hour one way than the trip to Chambana for him, so he probably could have already, but that's besides the point. I think he thinks he can get tickets for the Illinois game for pennies on the dollar just by walkup though at Chambana forever, and he may actually be right.

  3. If you are attacking ND you don't do it through Maryland. That's not going to ruin the ACC. It'd be FSU, Duke, or UNC.

As other people pointed out, adding Rutgers and Maryland does zero for competitiveness outside of Maryland basketball, but is all about getting the Big Ten Network into 15 million extra homes. Offering the bigger boys a chance to get in on that revenue stream is going to be the main attraction of a potential offer.

This is what happens, BTW, when you let contemporary businessmen run your Conference.

It's looking like Maryland and Rutgers will join the Leaders division and Illinois will be the team moving over to the Legends. Bad news for Illinois football.

LEGENDS: Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois

LEADERS: Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Rutgers, Purdue, Maryland, Indiana

Nebraska is never going to play Indiana in football, is it?

EDIT-Hey....Indiana has a winning record against Maryland in football. Welcome new meat.

  4. So Georgia Tech shows up in some Big Ten rumors.

Anybody want to take a stab at naming something more quixotic than the Big Ten trying to establish a presence in Atlanta?

Miami is in there too. Wackiness a plenty.

Hell, grab North Carolina and Miami and just double down on the whole "postseason ineligible" thing.

Lol, be careful what you wish for. They have been mentioned too. The B1G will go to 16 sooner rather than later.

Hence why I mentioned them. At least North Carolina has the appropriate academic profile for the Conference (large Public Ivy). At least until their accreditation gets pulled for the little "football and basketball grading scandal".

  5. A lot may happen in the next week or so. Been calling this for a long time on here. Traditionalist called me crazy.

At least one Conference had to make a move that was objectively insane to pull this off. We weren't wrong.

Looks like the Big 12 might be getting ready to kill off the Big East once and for all.

Wait there is more. Louisville might consider a move to the Big 12 if a call from Dallas is made. And don’t be surprised if Boise State also gets a call. Both schools were on the short list during the Big 12′s recent configuration process in which Texas A&M and Missouri went to the SEC and TCU and West Virginia joined the Big 12.

Can't wait to get off the sinking ship that is the BE. If Louisville goes, the Big XII better bring Cincinnati or Boise State. Cincy has the rivalry factor and Boise, for many years, a staple for the BCS.

What makes you think Hicktown Kentucky Community College is in a position to make demands?

  6. Espn reporting Maryland in negotiations with Big 10. If they move Rutgers would join them.

If that happens I would hope Big 10 switch to an east west division luneup so both get out in the same division as Penn St.

ACC expansion basically ended home and home for the Terps with Duke and UVA. That and the added money of the Big 10 might let them move.

UnderArmor CEO Kevin Plank is cashing out $65 million in shares. Completely unrelated, I'm sure...

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway this bites. I don't want Maryland and Rutgers in the Conference. What good is New York for college football anyway?

  7. The NEW NHL after Buttman, Fehr, and all the a'holes are ousted by the fans!

    EASTERN- ATLANTIC

Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals

    EASTERN- NORTHEAST

Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Hamilton Tigers, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Quebec Nordiques, Toronto Maple Leafs

    WESTERN- CENTRAL

Chicago Blackhawks, Cincinnati Stingers, Houston Aeros, Minnesota North Stars, St. Louis Blues, Winnipeg Jets

    WESTERN- PACIFIC

Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Seattle Totems, Vancouver Canucks

    1. Less 1970s hockey wankery please. Surprised you didn't rename the Avalanche the Rockies or the Denver Spurs.

    2. So which franchises die and move?

  8. Dont think this makes FSU happy in the ACC. They voted against the buyout for a reason.

Florida State's not moving. Unless y'all got 50 million dollars to blow, it's the ACC.

Getting out of buyouts is easy. FSU's president called it "punitive" and said a good businessman never puts himself in something he can't get out of. Hell, the two new ACC teams got their buyout reduced. Even got to come over a year early.

I very strongly doubt the Big XII wants to shell out $100 million for the privilege of having FSU and collectively :censored: ing Clemson.

And yeah, historically the buyout penalty gets picked up by the new conference in order to make it "go down".

Anyway, it's a moot point, the Big XII was only going to expand if Notre Dame was part of the expansion, and the ACC just offered the Irish the same deal that the Big XII was offering. So yeah, expansion's off the table there.

  9. Never saw this coming. But, there is one sport that will definatly benefit from having Notre Dame in: Lacrosse.

Syracuse joins Duke, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia next season. Say they add Notre Dame in 2014. In about 3 or 4 years, you'll see the ACC have an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

It's not like they needed one.

Just wondering about what the Big 12 will do. Expansion to 12 is on their agenda but who?

    Louisville? BYU?

Actually, the Big 12 reiterated last week that expansion is off the table at the moment, because only Notre Dame moves the needle enough to be viable, and well look at what just happened.

  10. Helpful tip for everyone out there: Nothing as big as ND joining a conference would be quiet until it was announced. News would leak out and ESPN would be all over it with their usual "Notre Dame has a press conference tomorrow where they are expected to announce they have joined X Conference." Covering their ass with the "expected" tag yet still stealing the attention and glory for themselves.

Also has anyone kept up with U of New Orleans? Here's how it went down:

June 2010: We're not going to stay D1, we're going D3. Nevermind we're going D2 as an independent at first.

June 2011: Since we're D2, we'll be joining the Gulf South beginning the 2012-2013 school year. We'll have football by 2015.

    March 7, 2012: JK we're staying D1.

August 21, 2012: K, for realsies we're joining the Southland.

I'm surprised it took New Orleans as long as it did to hit the "we're going to D3" stage. IIRC Katrina wrecked the basketball arena.
