Ya. We know. The current Titans own the rights to the Oilers name and logo. But they don't own colors. Lmk when someone buys or owns a color and can restrict the use of it.

Sure, I'll let you know. Trade dress is a part of trademark law that signifies the source of a product through its visual appearance, that can include color schemes.

The Texans wearing a color scheme specifically designed to make them look like the Oilers could create confusion in the NFL jersey sales market since the Titans still sell Oilers jerseys.

It seems strange that they're being so vague about this whole thing. They unveil a centennial crest that will I guess be the primary logo for the upcoming season, but make no mention of if there will be new uniforms or if the new crest will even be used on the uniforms. Then they announce the Era Nights with a video that highlights various uniforms from their history, but don't explicitly state whether or not they'll actually wear those uniforms during those games. It's all very confusing.

Pretty on brand for a Jacobs family organization if we're being honest.

  3. I think it's 3 things working at once. First, as you've noted, adidas has made the jersey worse overall, socks, numbers, and general overall construction looks worse.

Second, there's always been a not-insignificant portion of the Bruins fan base that just prefers the 80 to early 90s jerseys over the current ones. I'm not one of them personally, but those jerseys have always been pretty beloved, especially since they're associated with guys like Ray Bourque and our terrible GM.

Third, the jersey's nearly 20 years old and an also not-insignificant portion of the general public likes change for the sake of change. I'm sure for some people it's just gotten stale.

    Sooo... what does this mean?

They'll likely eventually get the trademark. The denial was based on the Army-Air Force game called the Commanders' Classic and a Trademark Squatter who has claimed he'll give them up for free to the team.

They'll have their lawyers argue that the Washington Commanders won't be confused with a single college football game. That should be persuasive, though when it comes to soft IP in the US the logical outcome doesn't always occur. The other trademarks will either be abandoned or turned over to the team for free or they'll pay the guy to obtain them.

The only reason the black uniform seems to exist is probably because of this last minute change, correct? From my understanding, alternate uniforms have to use a color that is within the primary uniforms. I mean, the “CARDINALS” is in black, but even that’s a stretch.

The 49ers were able to use a black jersey despite it only being on the on the logo on the regular jerseys, so the change probably wouldn't have been necessary for that.

Interesting that purple/black stuck over their "classic" r/w/b - since they never owned it.  Sky blue was Interesting but short-lived. Too many moves and name changes to stick.  Makes me think Clippers could do the same.

What other color changes really stuck in recent memory?

    Tampa Bay Bucs

    Mavericks lack of green

    LA Kings

    Mariners

White Sox finally settling on black - another case of r/w/b not bring missed

Nets, black still hanging on by a thread

    others were soonish after expansion

    Memphis Grizzlies

    Arizona Diamondbacks

    Tampa Bay Rays

The Astros and Canucks could both fit this if we’re counting a return to the classic color schemes.

Hypothetically, couldn't they flip the horse inside the D logo for the helmet decal when it's on the left? Kinda like how the Ravens do it?

I mean, the direction of the horse wasn't an issue for 30 years, so why should it be in issue now?
