  1. Eh. I associate The Mailman with those, especially considering he wore those 4 of 5 seasons they were around.
  2. I would quip back to not tell the Pacers, but if that meant they'd get rid of the Hickory jerseys for good ... I'd be fine with that.
  3. The most jarring thing about Draymond here is that I associate that jersey and number with Jason Richardson. It's funny that I didn't really connect the shared number until these throwbacks.
  4. I would lean on nostalgia and local appropriate names ... New York Bulldogs D.C. Renegades St. Louis Stallions Tampa Bay Bandits Dallas Outlaws Houston Avengers Los Angeles Rhinos Seattle Sockeyes
  5. Two thoughts ... in PRO football -- Bulldogs is one that could used and embraced. I'm actually surprised it's not used. Of course in college and HS that's another story. But, I'd love a Bulldogs name. I'm sure you're right about Athletics, Packers and Magic. But, it's also hard to compare the three since they all come from different eras and got their nicknames through different methods (nickname from newspapers, sponsor, name-the-team with heavy marketing considering) ... but, now, in today's American sports world we've kind of established what kind of nicknames work for professional sports -- animals (Lions, Tigers, Rams, Hornets, Ravens, etc), regional names (Nationals, Texans, Canadiens, Phillies, Yankees), regional appropriate names (Lakers, Jazz, Oilers, Nuggets, Spurs, Magic, Hurricanes, Canucks), mythical names (Wizards, Titans, Knights), people's nicknames (Redskins, Blackhawks, Celtics). I'm sure I could make that list longer especially considering early 1900 baseball nicknames. There are other "rules" we've kind of adopted ... singular nicknames are not always the best (Magic, Jazz, Wild), and double name nicknames are pretty ridiculous, especially for top tier professional sports (Mighty Ducks, Golden Knights, Silver Stars, etc). Though those rules are thrown out the window for minor league (especially baseball). My point being -- if the XFL wants to be taken more seriously I'd avoid minor league sounding names. They can get creative, just don't go overboard IMO.
  6. I'll actually be right by Angel Stadium this weekend, I'm curious now to see how big the location is in person with this perspective. Even with that said ... I just don't see Disney really wanting to build right by the freeway unless it was more shopping, hotels and restaurants.
  7. And, there has been rumors of a third Anaheim Disney Park for years. That’s a whole different story and discussion. But, that area would be a good location for a third park. With that all said, I just don’t see the Angels moving. Look how difficult it is to get any arena or stadium deal done in California.
  8. Stores. Restaurants. Hotels. SIDE NOTE: I'm somewhat surprised we haven't had 2-3 posts suggesting a Los Angeles Angels of Long Beach name change.
  9. I think this was the NOLA's best jersey as the Hornets.
  10. If the Benson family was involved with an AA team I'd love for them to use the Pelicans name. Probably won't happen with a Pelicans MiLB team and the NBA team, but Pelicans is a baseball name to me. Whatever the name ... just make it sane.
  11. Not a BAD matchup, but, much better than this ... But, this is what I prefer ...
  12. Wait, this is an unpopular opinion? They absolutely looked their best in 1999.
  13. Odds are the next time this matchup happens it'll be a hot mess!
  14. I see one of three things happening here ... 1) The Angels build a new stadium near the current park with city funding (partial, all, etc). 2) The Angels move to Downtown LA (is the convention center where State Farms Field was going to be built open?) 3) The Angels con a local LAC or OC city to build them a stadium or give them a sweetheart deal. I wouldn't be surprised if the Angels did move to Downtown LA if Anaheim pursued a MLB team like the A's or Rays to play in a renovated or new park (at the Big A location). Do you think Vegas could get another Bay Area team? The Vegas A's?
  15. NBA has gotten rid of that, it's top 8 regardless of record.
  16. My rules of baseball nicknames ... MLB: Go traditional, no funny business (the reason why everyone hated Devil Rays). AAA: Go traditional, you can get a little original but Storm Chasers or Baby Cakes should not be allowed in AAA. Names related to the parent club are cool, but no Iowa Cubs or Omaha Royals please. AA: Traditional is preferred, but original nicknames get a pass. Names like Baby Cakes, Biscuits, RubberDucks, Rumble Ponies work here. But, still prefer a bit more traditional.Again no parent club nicknames. A/Rookie: Whatever goes -- Orem Owlz, Everett AquaSox, Fort Wayne Tin Caps. Even parent club nicknames -- Helena Brewers, Grand Junction Rockies or Staten Island Yankees. That said, I can live with the Trash Pandas. Just not sure about Rocket City?
