Is he really the kind of guy you want to "mentor" someone?  Hasn't he had his share of maturity issues?

Yes. There's no man I'd rather have mentor our next QB. When Cam played the whole team felt different. He was such a valuable asset to the team and the city's culture and he's a great guy off the field too. He's made mistakes, obviously - the "woman talking about routes" comment isn't something that's really defensible. He's a competitor, through and through, and especially given how the modern QB is so influenced by him Cam would be my first and only choice.

Im betting they change from block numbers with Tampa and New Orleans already having it

What? Why would they change that. It would be one thing if they shared a custom font with another team but the Panthers' number font is just a basic block set.

Hmm, if that is what happens I'd actually be kinda disappointed. In my opinion, they should try to look more like the blue on the left than on the right. It feels like Charlotte FC matches the left color as well.

As I've said many times - I'm glad that the team isn't doing a major overhaul because they don't need one. Tightening up certain elements (hopefully removing the sleeve logo or TV numbers to give the stripe some room to breathe) and making the switch to blue primaries (if that happens) is a good change. Forcing the stripe short is unfortunate and I blame Nike for being unable to accommodate the design. While dropping silver would be the best way to go I'd rather they keep it than go to an all-black disaster.

There's a tiny amount of silver that could easily just be switched to white. That's what I'd want but it's obviously not what they'll do. I think the palatability of the uniforms will come down to helmet color. White or blue helmet and they're on their way to doing well. Black helmets and the whole thing will be a train wreck no matter what.

The blue pops on the black jerseys in a way it doesn't as the base for a jersey. Still, as long as the jerseys aren't overly modern trash, it will still be decent enough.

I really hope they don't touch the logo. It's perfect as it is.

The logo could use some tweaks IMO but I don't think they'll change it. I'm for us switching to blue as our primary jersey color so that we can own that look and set ourselves apart from the NFC South. My ideal set would have blue helmets to truly create a unique look for the team but I'm ok with white/blue/white.

My Reddit contact said that the Draft Hats we're seeing are placeholder hats or something. Not the real ones.

Not sure how much you've heard about the Panthers but - are the Panthers' draft hats placeholders or are they keeping the color scheme?

  5. +1 on the "be careful what you wish for" in the Panthers camp. If I see any "cat scratch" striping then you can throw the entire thing in the garbage. There's not much that needs to be changed. I'd rather they keep the silver than drop it if it means keeping some semblance of the classic set. There's a reason the team hasn't changed before and they shouldn't make too drastic of a change now. I'm hoping that Charlotte FC's emphasis on blue means the team will finally make the change to blue primaries. We can (and almost certainly will) keep the all-black for primetime games but blue primaries would go a long way in endearing me to the set.

The Panthers need to avoid two key pitfalls: stripeless pants and blank, pants-matching socks. I don't have any faith they actually will but if they do then I can't be too upset.

it's also, as @MJWalker45 said, just how it's done.

In NPB, Japanese teams use romaji  for player names and team names on their jerseys. My own Yokohama DeNA Baystars have the front script in the romaji and player names also using romaji. It's also found in Japan on roadsides and the such, so it's not exactly uncommon.

It's also worth mentioning that the names ARE in Japanese, just written using latin alphabet(aka romaji)

That's not romaji - romaji is for "spelling out" Japanese words using the Latin alphabet (i.e. 野球 being written as yakyuu). What NPB teams use is just, well, English. If, for example, the BayStars were to use romaji, the front would read Beisutaazu. They also don't use romaji for nameplates because foreign players' names are spelled "correctly" and not as they would be if they were read using Japanese syllables.

I'm actually glad that Japan, Korea, China, et al. use English lettering because I think it feels up space much better than writing them in their native languages would. Those East Asian languages are very short and honestly I don't think a jersey with a massive 日 on one side and 本 on the other would look as good as their current jerseys do (or good at all, even).

  7. Currently it feels like a steep price but if the QB we draft works out then this will be worth it. Losing DJ stings a lot but I'm coping by saying that it helps save cap space and that WRs are easier to find than QBs. My only fear is that we return to the Cam era, where we had an elite QB surrounded by absolutely nothing. Very high-risk, high-reward. Personally I have Stroud at 1, Young a close 2, Richardson 3, and Levis a distant 4. Either Stroud or Young would be a great pick for me. Excited for the draft!

If Netherlands can use NEDERLAND, and the Czech Republic can use CESKO, why can't Japan use NIPPON? Just a thought

Japan historically uses "JAPAN" on their jerseys. Same with Korea and China - you just don't normally see non-Latin based languages on baseball jerseys. Besides, Victor has made a set that says「日本」and it's the pink alternate.

I dunno - given that 'Carolina blue' is a thing, I'm guessing not.

But, importantly, the shade of blue the Panthers use isn't Carolina Blue - to avoid alienating Duke fans. The shade selected, called "Panthers blue" or "Process Blue" by Pantone, was selected specifically to be in between UNC's powdery Carolina Blue and Duke's royal blue.

BTW: The Hurricanes have worn 12 different uniforms in the past 10 years, with only 2 of them matching. Their current roads and this year’s reverse retro that they wore for 2 games. So they’ve worn 11 different jersey designs with 5 different logos and never had a matching home and away design.

The Hurricanes are an example of a team, in my opinion, that will never look good, and it starts top-down. The name "Hurricanes" doesn't lend itself to sports imagery nicely and was likely chosen so that the colors of red and black would match NC State and not for any particular reason related to Raleigh or the Carolinas. Their best jersey is obviously their first set but even then I don't really like the inclusion of silver and the italicized name and number font is hard to make work well. Since then, the team has continued to make changes for the sake of making changes, including the baffling red and white set from 2013 (that didn't match the road jersey). The 2017 home set was better but still an inferior version of the '90s set due to the sublimated warning flags (although I actually prefer the color balance here) and still kept the old road jerseys. The alternate uniform sucks, I don't even hate the logo, but the gray yoke and boring striping make this set a bad alternate (and a worse primary). The new road jersey has awful diagonal text instead of the primary crest and is again missing lots of black and still doesn't match the home uniform. This year when they dropped the old red set for the terrible black jerseys and then brought back better uniforms as their alternate just proves to me the team has no clue what to do with the brand. In fact, the only good design decision they've made since 2017 was trying red helmets with the white sweater.

I just don't think you're ever going to get a good brand out of the red/black Hurricanes. Even their best uniforms have problems and they're just another red and black NHL team. Maybe a quality brand could exist with the name "Carolina Hurricanes" but certainly not one with a red and black color scheme. They should've leaned more into the 90s and gone with a more out-there scheme, matching NC State be damned. Teal in particular I think would've been a great inclusion. Now, however, the team has spent 25 years as the Hurricanes and nothing about the brand is going to change. In my opinion, the best this team can hope for is a good set of uniforms and can never truly be great because of the decisions made when the franchise first moved.

  11. I'm not really feeling the pivot to pink for Japan. Yeah they have used navy and red before, but recently they've focused on a navy and gold color scheme which is unique and also the historic scheme for a very historic team. The pink pinstripes on the gray jersey are not great - they're hard to see. The number font is quite nice, I like the pullover alternate you have. The calligraphy-inspired set is not my favorite but I do like it. Using pink as a base works really well, better than I thought it would. I actually don't really care for the pink hat, I think the navy cap would serve perfectly for every jersey.
