  1. Yeah, this is a private event - the other one was public.
  2. That's the 1996 ring. The 2010 version hasn't been unveiled yet, or even leaked. Presume that the team will release a photo after the private ceremony tonight. But you're right - a little green would have gone a long way. Personally, I really like the stockholder rings from that year. We'll see what they've got for us this year. For what it's worth, this is what coach McCarthy had to say about the rings: “I’m looking forward to sharing it with my wife and the team,” he said. “I’m anxious to see the reaction of the players when they see the ring. I know the design that went into making this a special ring, and it is. We definitely hit the target of making this ring symbolic of the championship of Super Bowl XLV.”
  3. Can't wait - hope the team releases pictures tonight as well.
  4. I rather like it, showing the road they took to get there.
  5. You might want to send it back - the Packers have announced that as part of their Super Bowl ring with Josten's they'll be offering "exclusive collections made for shareholders, season-ticket holders and a fan collection" starting in mid-summer. So you can have that one, or wait for an official version. Me, I'm looking forward to picking up a shareholder's ring. Hmmm...looking forward to seeing the design on that one. Wonder if it'll have personalization like my new one will. Of course, if more people order the Jostens fan version that this Bradford Exchange version I've got coming, mine'll look different...and I dig that. To each his own, but isn't part of the point that they don't look different? That they come from the team? Otherwise players could just have their own rings made.
  6. Because the basic design was stolen wholesale from the Patiots' Super Bowl XXXIX rings: They made minor tweaks, but apparently couldn't be bothered to remove the last Lombardi Trophy.

  8. Fortunately, the NFL's peculiar myopia on that issue has been improving steadily.
  9. Steeler fans claimed that? I never pegged them as the willfully-ignorant type.
  10. Especially not in '63. Nice that they were aiming high, but the ego was a little out of control with that one.
  11. I don't think the team is going to pay for 112,000 rings. In 1996, shareholders bought their own from the team. Hopefully we'll have the chance to do so again.
  12. And in the meantime, write to Murphy. Tell him we want shareholder rings as well.
  13. Yep, mentioned that. FWIW, that 1962 ring appears to have been issued to very few - the players got a watch that year, not a ring.
  14. Not to mention that most are ugly. On the other hand... Holy cow - that's gorgeous.
  15. There's a 1965 championship ring for sale on ebay right now Out of my price range, I'm afraid. I meant I'd wait for my Super Bowl ring. All owners can get one. And I won't loan mine to Putin.
  16. Is that where the fantasy football people get theirs? I'll wait for my Packers ring.
  17. Very cool, but it's a little odd to find a 100 year-old ring in such perfect condition. Barry Halper have his hands on that one, too?
  18. The oldest one I know of is the 1922 New York Giants:
  19. Now where did you find that? Here are the three 1996 rings (players, staff, and shareholders):
  20. reminds me of the pats super bowl ring. Yeah, I though of that too, but couldn't remember the team or year. Just remembered something like it. You're right - looks suspiciously like the Lombardi Trophy.
  21. The Packers have put their World Championship rings on hold until they can get player input. And we'll have to wait longer than that to see what the shareholder rings will look like.
  22. And, since the Brewers were mentioned, that's exactly what they did with theirs.
