I'll endorse this statement, especially if you're a fan of comfortable hats with unique, low-key designs.

I'll buy a New Era if it's an on-field MLB or MiLB cap. But for anything else, I find their offerings to be either too basic or too gimmicky. I was looking for a Vikings cap recently. I wanted something unique, maybe a bit retro, but not overdone with excess striping or patches. Found this one and, being a fan of the old two-bar face mask, loved it. Super comfortable low-profile hat, too. (At the time, they were doing a buy-one, get-one deal online and snagged a powder-blue Twins hat with the classic Minnie & Paul shaking hands logo.)

EDIT: I almost forgot this, too. A couple years ago, I lost my beloved Twins "M" cap. I wanted to buy a replacement immediately, but New Era at the time had taken them out of circulation. The '47 Brand, however, had a fitted one. It replaced the MLB logo on the back with the road "MINNESOTA" script from the team's World Series years. While it wasn't an on-field authentic, you'd never be able to tell from the quality.

And no, I don't work for '47 Brand. I've just grown to be a fan of their products and prices. :)

First off - I too absolutely love 47 brand hats. Especially the style you posted, plus I have recently gotten one of the Carhartt hats they are doing and loved that one too.

Secondly, I really miss when the side view of the helmet was basically used as the teams logo.  I loved the side view of the old blue/yellow rams helmet.  I guess this is really getting out of the MLB talk at this point, but it just reminds me of collecting those gumball machine helmets.

The retail store I left managing recently is selling City Edition gear and the buyers occasionally put the next year's inventory into the system in order to be ahead of the curve. Not sure if these teams are correct but here is what they had inputted for next season: Nationals, Royals, Padres, Brewers, Rockies, and Angels. May not be the teams or may  be more or less but that is what they had listed at least when I had checked it late last month.

God I hope my Cardinals are never involved with this. We will probably get an all red uniform with the Gateway Arch slapped on the background and a cap that reads "we don't care that you don't like our pizza"

  3. I may be in the minority here it seems, but I actually dig these. Clean and balanced.  I actually love the shoulder stripes. The plain block numbers are great. And i even dig the mesh jersey material.

I get that it looks like a color rush, but its not. It's a direct callback to a uniform from the past.  It looks like a real football uniform, which is refreshing because many of the new uniforms from the last 5 or so years don't. It's nothing earth shattering, but when you are the Packers, you don't need to be.

@spartacat_12keep in mind MTL shades of red and blue (a) have way more contrast and (b) still are separated by white.  IMO that's what the Avs (sans black) need.  Below are 6 ways they could achieve that (3 different colors of breezers without and with grey).

I really like the options either on the left or the right where the arm yoke and hem match in color betweent the home and away set and also match the breezers. IMO that is the thing that would make their set more cohesive.  Currently, the hem/yoke goes from burgandy on the road to blue at home, so it throws the color balance off on the road set when the breezers went to blue.

    Cool stuff thanks for posting

Please tell me what will make the Coyotes' logos "inclusive."

I was literally asking myself this same question, but decided to just leave the topic alone.

I honestly cannot envision a way that a team named the Coyotes could make their branding exclusive.  🤣

I thought the current set was great in 2007...it was new, it went back to red/white/blue, and the weagle logo is pretty cool, especially on the away jersey (IMO).  But it hasn't been a timeless look, and I wish they'd rethink the striping. I'm a huge fan of the RR and I have a new appreciation for that look especially in red and navy.

I would love for them to go RR full time with a white road version.

Yeah I agree - there were a lot of ugly jerseys released between 2003-2015. This Flames jersey falls in the middle of that ugly group.

I will never understand how the Caps still have that damn piping. Especially with the jerseys that they have from their history to choose from. They continue to wear literally the worst jersey of their history. They Flames did that too until they just perfected their look. The Flames are definitely top 10 in the league now

Probably an unpopular opinion, but anyone else kinda bummed the howling coyote is dead? It was a really unique modern look, well-executed & stately, and the shoulder patch kicked butt. Brick red really worked for the desert too.

We'll probably never see them again, and that's a shame. They're another helpless victim of the Retro-Trend Machine, which has done a lot of good for the league's looks (CGY, BUF, PIT, etc.) But I think those were all pretty clear upgrades, where as the 'Yotes are a team that had a really nice look going, and are ditching it to chase a fad that's growing staler by the day. I understand jersey sales are important here, but now they'll only have 3 to sell, from 4.

Not to mention how well the kachina complemented as an alternate, and I still can't put aside how muddy they look on tv.

    Just my 2 cents.

I didn't hate the howling head jersey as a whole, but i would say that that was a trend in and of itself. I just hate all swooshy animal head logos at this point including that one.

That being said, i wish they would have done a Kachina with maybe some updated colors. I love the Kachina logos and stripe pattern but the colors are dull and could have used an update. They just don't show up well on TV.

The league was really coming into its own during the period between the 2003 and 2007.  The wackier designs of the 90's were going by the wayside and a return to a more traditional aesthetic was beginning to take place organically.  You saw it in the Coyotes rebrand, the Flames return to red, the Bruins replacing their Pooh-Bear alternate with an Orr-era throwback, multiple teams returning to lace-up collars and the excellent All Star jerseys from the game in Minnesota.

More importantly than that, newer teams were not trying to be something they weren't.  You didn't have Lightning masquerading as the Maple Leafs, The Hurricanes weren't using a diagonal-script, Nashville hadn't sucked all the life out of their identity, the Sharks still had their original (and perfect) colour scheme and Florida didn't feel the need to be another red team with a chest stripe.

Without the Reebok Edge debacle, it's not difficult to imagine the league being perfected within 3 to 5 years.   The Canucks were already transitioning to blue and green, the Bruins excellent cup-winning set eschewed the Edge aesthetic so it probably would've happened regardless, The Capitals wanted a return to Red as early as 02 and maybe the whole Buffaslug debacle doesn't happen without Reebok's influence.

My favorite era is late 80s - early 90s. After looking at the NHL Uniform database, I think the 89-90 season is great, including the All Star jerseys. Sure there are a few oddities, like the Leafs full arm yokes (i admittingly love those) and the North Stars adding black, but i love this era. That's my favorite Blues jersey and I love the yoke-less Bruins.

I don't think it takes too much effort to understand what he was saying. It wasn't a suggestion that the RR program isn't popular, but that the formula -- a throwback-inspired look in which the colors are flipped -- can only be done a limited number of ways for some teams. That, to me, is a perfectly logical take.

In general, I applaud the RR program -- compared to what Nike has done with the NBA, the Adidas concept manages bring something new to the table while displaying some restraint. But I could also easily see how the concept could either run its course or run the risk of turning into a Nike-esque series of clown costumes . I think @Ridleylash's idea of paying homage to prior franchises isn't a bad idea. Depending on who owned the IP, it would be cool to bring some old WHA identities back for a spin.

Personally, I'd prefer just a straight-forward throwback program minus the "reverse" part of it.

God, I would love to see this for the blues:

Ooh that is nice. Really nice.

I still think the bone was a risk worth taking, but that white jersey is terrific.

I respectfully disagree with all of my soul.

When you have had some of the greatest uniforms in NFL history and you are primed for a rebrand in your new/old home, no risk like the color bone is needed.

And i say this as a St. Louisan and former Rams fanatic. The old yellow/blue LA Rams uniforms were gorgeous and perfect just the way they were. And the Blue/white combo was great as well.

This is probably the instance where the LEAST amount of risk was needed. Just run out there in something classic looking. You're the RAMS FOR F'S SAKE!

This new white jersey, while better than the bone, still doesn't do it for me. White and yellow next to each other, soccer numbers, new horn, horn and numbers don't have continuity with colors... so many issues still. Just not a good design.

The hate for gray facemasks is stupid. It's like the grey away uniforms in baseball, it's a neutral color that works for every possible helmet in the NFL. There's only like a handful of teams I don't think would benefit from wearing a grey face mask permanently.

I honestly can't stand the grey away uniforms in baseball. I'm indifferent on the facemasks. But I have never understood the grey in baseball. Why not a team in white and a team in the primary uniform color like other sports?

  13. If they pick a name, its going to be some kind of predatory animal or something to do with the nations capitol. And nothing will bore me more. Which is why i guess WFT doesn't bother me because at least it isn't that. Plus, based on their past name, whatever they pick will be as G rated as possible, which makes an animal an easy choice. My fear is that once they pick a name, they will basically have the branding of the Jags or Panthers in the colors of the WFT - swooshy animal head on the helmet and all.

I do get the appeal (feels classic and old school) and if the on-field product continues to improve then it could work.

But man, any time someone calls them 'The Football Team' I want to vomit. Will always feel like a placeholder name to me.

I get this sentiment, but TBH even if they come up with a great name, it still wont feel right. Putting all debate of racism to the side, they are forever etched in my brain as the (Washington Football Team). That is kind of why i actually like "the football team." Giving them a different name at this point feels so gimmicky to me. As if they need a name just to make sure they have a mascot and so they can plaster an animal head on the helmet.

It's just not worth it. The only team that I'd care to see an alternate helmet throwback from would be Tampa. The Buccaneers' current uniform is superior to the Buccos, but I'd still like to see those old orange ones maybe once a season. The other teams that get brought up as needing an alt helmet for throwbacks... namely Seattle and Philly... they just need to switch back to their old helmet colors full time. Seeing the Seahawks and/or Eagles wearing their massively superior old looks twice a year would just piss me off, and make me hate their current looks even more (if that's even possible with Seattle).

So the idea of opening the door to the possibility of even more mix-n-match chaos just to see the creamsicle Bucs every once in a while?  No thanks.

Your point about the mix-match chaos is 100% valid. BUT, I can think of a bunch of other teams that I would love a alternate helmet. For starters:

    Rams (anything but their primary)

Cardinals (red helmet would be cool)

    Titans (white)

    Seahawks (gray)

    Patriots

    Buffalo (red)

And that's just off the top of my head.

My only hesitation is that I feel like the NFL helmet is sort of more sacred than the uniform. Maybe it was collecting them from the gumball machine when i was a kid or something. But it sort of takes away from how special they are if teams have more than one.
