  1. The new Hall of Fame class has been announced
  2. Hello @Silent Wind of Doom, I'm relatively new here and still need a signature and these have definitely caught my eye. I'd kindly request. Some conventional picks, plus some departed teams I liked and a little bit of national team success too. Buccaneers: 2 Super Bowls + 2 NFC titles Lightning: 3 Stanley Cups + 5 Prince of Wales' Trophies + the 2019 Presidents Trophy Rays: 2 Pennants (2008 + 2020) Magic: 2 Eastern Conference Titles Gators: 3 Football National Championships, 2 Basketball National Championships, and the 2017 Baseball Championship Rowdies: 1975 NASL Championship, 2012 NASL 2.0 Championship, and something for being finalists in 1978, 1979, 2020 and 2021. Tampa Bay Mutiny: 1996 Supporters Shield Tampa Bay Storm: 5 Arena Bowls USMNT: 7 Gold Cups USWNT: 4 World Cups + 4 Olympic Gold Medals USA Men's Hockey: 2 Olympic Gold Medals + 1996 WCOH USA Women's Hockey: 2 Olympic Gold Medals
  3. Also I definitely agree with the points made about the Canadian team cup drought (pressure/taxes are absolutely factors) but at the same time I do feel there's just an element of bad luck involved too. 94 Canucks, 2004 Flames, 2006 Oilers, 2011 Canucks, and now 2024 Oilers fell in Game 7 since the 93 Habs lifted up the Cup. Definitely brutal to not get anything out of that stretch even with the systemic issues at play too.
  4. Can't say I care for this iteration of the Panthers (Seeing Bennett and Cousins lifting the cup ruined my night) but credit to them. They did well to turn around from being a run and gun team when they won the President's trophy into a true 200 foot and nasty defensive team. I was hoping for Edmonton to pull it off because the chance at seeing history would have been so cool, but just felt like they ran out of gas by the final minute. Definitely a well deserved win for the Panthers. Also wild to see a game such as this take place at the edge of the Everglades. For those who haven't been, you can see the arena from a good distance away on Alligator Alley. If they took a page out of the Lightning's book and added a twist by doing an airboat parade it would be appropriate. Fitting comparison because a lot of the last 10 minutes felt like the last 10 minutes of that game. Edmonton was surging for a lot of the period but couldn't get anything in the end. That McDavid and Hyman chance that didn't go in felt like it was around the same point in the game that Khabibulin made that save on Leopold.
  5. https://www.hockey-reference.com/leagues/NHL_2024_preseason_odds.html According to Hockey Reference the Oilers did have top 5 Pre-Season Cup odds and they were a popular pick. Less so after they had the awful start, but once they fired the coach and got the bounce they were meeting expectations again though the start doomed their seeding. If they do win Monday you'll hear a lot of comparisons to 2019 St. Louis, but both teams did have higher expectations before awful starts and their heaters were both teams finally playing closer to their potential after coaching changes: though a lot more extreme in St. Louis' case.
  6. That own goal to make it 2-0 is up there with some of the worst own goals I've ever watched
  7. For some perspective the last time a team successfully came back from down 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Final, the Battle of Stalingrad hadn't even begun yet. Crazy how fast this series changed. I thought we were going to have another clunker of a final, now we're set up for one of the most intriguing Game 7s of my lifetime. We can either see a historic comeback completed that sees the best player in the game today get his name on the Cup, or the Panthers just exorcise all their franchise demons and end their 30 year wait at home. As someone who does not care for the Panthers at all, I hope the Oilers get it done.
  8. As someone with no ties to Iowa State I have no clue why Matt Campbell seems to be obsessed with the black and white gear.
  9. For me that logo is the highlight of the rebrand so far. Would be a shame if it is trapped in the Chevron because it deserves to be a jersey crest
  10. I guess the font issue is just my brain being used to seeing the old font all these years more than anything "wrong" with the design which there's not. I 100% agree with you that a standalone crown would have been better though of course
  11. Something about the updated font for the new Kings logo doesn't click right with me and I don't know how to explain it outside of just something personally with me. Still, it'll certainly look better on the jerseys again than the pencil tip logo did by default and if the Kings finally have matching hemstripes across home and away I'll be content
  12. In that case I'll eat crow there. Of course using the chevron in a significant role would naturally fuel speculation, but I guess we'll wait to see what they have planned to drop soon.
  13. Buried in this social media graphic following the big trade today, the Kings used the chevron logo. Of course it's probably the worst kept secret in the world at this point, but interesting.
  14. My two cents is I don't know if it's necessarily Florida "taking their foot off the gas" as opposed to Edmonton finally getting some bounces. Game 1 probably should have gone the other way just an unreal performance from Bobrovsky, and you could argue Game 3 could have gone the other way too. Also felt like the Oilers Power Play was snakebit the first 3 games and that unit is too good to be blanked forever. Now that Edmonton is finally getting rewarded with positive puck luck it's probably the series that it should be now. Should be an interesting finish to the final now though.
  15. Not sure how I feel, obviously need to see a clearer view. Upgrade by default IMO, but I don't think I can get behind the all orange. I also feel like they chased what the Sharks did going with the all teal.
  16. As a Magic fan I'm cautiously optimistic for our outlook but definitely have had the rug pulled a lot in franchise history. A lot depends on this offseason. I'm afraid of the FO overpaying for the 2024 version of Klay Thompson to accelerate the window or something like that. But still as you said, the East seems wide open outside of the constant being the Celtics.
  17. Yeah I didn't realize it but the Spurs comparison is so apt. Down to how business-like the Celtics of this year played. I myself could theoretically see these Celtics win another one or two, but then again sports are fleeting and it always depends on how the FO does. End of the day, credit to them for seizing probably the best opportunity for their core.
  18. I've always thought the Ravens needed to use the front facing bird more and this is confirmation bias for me. It works better on an helmet than even I thought it would. They need to make that the primary asap now.
  19. In regards to the juiceless/anti-climatic debate, I agree that it was mostly because of Boston taking care of business for 9 months pretty handily, but I will add that I feel ESPN has phoned it in with their NBA production. Just feels like Game 46 for that reason. Not sure if it's nostalgia saying "It felt bigger when I was a kid" as I grow older but can't say it's been good coverage either. That said as a UF alum and Gator fan, happy for Al Horford. Definitely something that he won back to back in college but had to wait 17 years to reach the mountaintop in the pros, but he definitely deserves it. Being a contributor on a championship team this late into his career is also impressive.
  20. Yeah those are disappointing. Obviously not bad as someone who remembers the piping era in college of the 2000s too well, but their collar was so unique. And I don't think anybody would object to a program like TCU using more modern and out there designs.
  21. My 2 cents is that they do the purpose adequately, and quite frankly I've seen worse jerseys be used as permanent jerseys. I can live with the colors (They definitely fit the Yeti and Blizzard names well) but I was hoping for purple. Would be something if the Kings, Ducks, and Utah all passed on a chance of owning purple in the same off-season with their rebrands (or in Utah's case, branding process.)
  22. There are definitely more offensive City Connects from this program than these Twins uniforms, but I agree with the points made by others that a lot of similar colors being used by teams during this program is just so uninspired.
  23. Probably that, and also Edwards Air Force Base is in Southern California too and that base has history with NASA so they may tie that in too with their Nike Speak. Also the Space Shuttle Endeavour is displayed in Los Angeles as well. Doesn't make the uniforms good by any stretch of the imagination going off the leaks, but I can at least notice the angle they're going with.
  24. If these were one off uniforms worn by, let's say TCU I wouldn't think twice. But the Vikings should be above chasing college uniform trends.
  25. Honestly the more I've paid attention to the Utah NHL branding debate I'm at the point where I would be somewhat disappointed if they don't use purple, especially with how underused it is in the current NHL. It would fit the Yeti name too which, as mentioned in this thread, is probably the preferred option despite the whole pomp and circumstance of the vote. Yet I feel like it'll end up being underwhelming.
