  1. They don’t match the contrasting nameplates on the white jersey though. They match the logo, which also happens to be a black letter outlined in white.
  2. Has there been any indication of what the captain’s patches will look like? Hopefully they go back to the black letters outlined in white on both jerseys.
  3. It really bothers me that the P on the wordmark doesn’t match the P on the cap/sleeve. I still don’t love the dark pants, but I guess there’s precedence with the Pirates.
  4. Good: shade of orange looks better, wider sleeve yoke is an improvement Bad: single-layer numbers on the sleeve look out of place, black hem stripe bleeds into pants & no longer matches socks, contrasting nameplates continue to be my least favourite design element in the history of sports Overall this feels like a lateral move, but at least they didn’t stray too far from their classic look. The ‘80s/‘90s set is still the best they’ve had.
  5. QC has an NHL calibre arena, and enough fan support to draw crowds. However, they don’t have much of a corporate base, and would hurt the value of the league’s TV contract. The premier has said he wants a team back, but it isn’t clear who would own them or who would pay the relocation fee.
  6. I’d say that a lumberjack is a much more Canadian image than an orca. All of your examples are of teams who use letters in lieu of actual images of their nicknames. It’s not like the Bruins use a logo that’s a completely different animal. The stick in rink is more comparable to the Bruins or Habs logo.
  7. Pretty crazy that this will be the 6th jersey in Golden Knights history, and they still haven’t repeated a base colour.
  8. The city of Ottawa actually has nothing to do with the arena. The land is owned by the federal government, so they’re the ones who’ve put up all the red tape over the years. From the beginning of the process it sounded like Andlauer was always the favourite, so that’s who I’m expecting ends up with the team. He’s already been on the NHL Board of Governors and is expected to be close to selling his share of the Habs. He’s the safe choice and has been going about his business quietly during this process, which the league always seems to appreciate.
  9. The conference alignment situation is just a cop out answer for why Quebec City doesn’t have a team. If it was a market the league thought was valuable, they would figure out a way to arrange the divisions.
  10. Salt Lake City is looking to host the Winter Olympics again in 2030 or 2034, so I’ve heard rumblings about them possibly building a new arena to coincide with that.
  11. So it looks like the NHL has decided that all Stanley Cup Finals patches have been moved to the left chest, even for teams/jerseys that don't feature an ad
  12. He gave the Flames 6 years of his career, and you could never accuse him of not playing hard while he was there. Players aren’t obligated to spend their entire careers with the team who drafted them, and he at least was respectful & told the Flames his intentions so they could get something back for him. He’s the son of a borderline Hall of Fame American player, and happens to be one of the few elite players who is capable of showing some emotion & personality on the ice. This is the kind of thing people complain is missing from the game, so yeah it’s a marketer’s dream.
  13. Oh no, two of the most marketable American players in the league are facing off against each other for their respective franchises’ first Stanley Cup.
  14. There was also a time when people didn’t like the black/red/yellow colours. The skate uniforms have only recently become popular again. It’s only a matter of time until the nostalgia calendar moves into the 2000s, plus those uniforms are associated with a relatively successful period in the franchise history.
  15. If it becomes the primary they’ll get bored of it and suddenly they’ll be clamoring for a return to the navy/maroon orca set.
  16. You aren’t completely off base here, but they were in the Western Conference Finals last year.
  17. This feels a bit like Carey Price in ‘21. Elite goalie who struggled during the regular season, but came into the playoffs rested and started rolling.
  18. You must be forgetting about the other Greek mythology themed pro football team that wears double blue.
  19. Not defending this in any way, but this was the temporary visitors dressing room. Sounds like the Yotes players’ complaints were related to other issues.
  20. I’ve actually come around a bit on the switch to gold as the primary home look. In a vacuum I think the grey looks better, but the gold & white jerseys work better as a set. Black being so prominent on the grey jerseys & almost non-existent on the white was a bit jarring. At this point they should recolour the logo to just be grey & gold. The black crest sticks out like a sore thumb now.
  21. There was a brief window in the mid-‘90s when it was a possibility. The league was riding high after the Rangers ended their Cup drought, and Michael Jordan had left the NBA. Of course there was a lockout immediately after which killed all that momentum.
  22. Elliotte Friedman has mentioned this recently. I guess the PA received some concerns when the Mullett Arena situation was first announced, but they were willing to tolerate it as a stopgap measure while the team worked out the permanent rink deal. Now that Tempe has fallen through he expects the PA to express a lot more concern. I’m sure the players would generally be opposed to any franchise relocations, but in this case it’s the uncertainty surrounding the team that would be a concern for them.
  23. Most rational people who were Arizona hockey defenders seem to be in agreement that the Tempe vote was the last ditch effort to keep the team in the market. Even the league has changed their tone about the situation and is no longer including the obligatory “we remain committed to the market” spiel. The only people who seem to be saying they deserve another chance are actual Coyote fans in AZ, which is understandable, albeit a little delusional.
