  1. I'm really not a fan of city nicknames going on uniforms, especially ones that are just "___________ City". It also feels like the Pelicans are really pushing the Crescent City thing. When it started getting incorporated into the branding I assumed they just made it up. Googling crescent city doesn't even bring up New Orleans as a result. Is "The Big Easy" just something tourists say that annoys the locals or something? It's always seemed like a pretty iconic city nickname, and if you were gonna throw something on a gimmicky jersey I would figure they'd go for that.
  2. I know people are saying this will finally be the end of the Bruins, but I'd still be surprised if they miss the playoffs this year. Obviously they're incredibly weak down the middle, but they've still got one of the best goal scorers in the league, a solid d corps, and one of the top goalie tandems. Even if they win 20 less games than they did last year, they should still be able to land a wild card spot. As a Sens fan I hope they fall out of it, but I wouldn't bet on it just yet.
  3. You're going to be waiting a while. The team has confirmed nothing will be added this season, and we won't see anything new from the team until 2025 at the earliest. I'd be fine with yellow or a navy & white Fearsome Foursome throwback, just please let this mean they're abandoning any plans for a "Hollywood Nights" BFBS alt.
  4. I'd have no problem with both teams staying the same, but my point was that if one team was going to rebrand it should be Houston.
  5. Do we really need to get bogged down by semantics? Houston's NFL team is currently called the Texans, and their NFL team was previously called the Oilers. Whether or not these were the same team doesn't matter, much like how it didn't matter that the Charlotte Bobcats never technically had the name Hornets before they changed it.
  6. It's funny that Rodgers is basically wearing a Packers jersey with the fill tool clicked a couple of times. I'd rather see Tennessee stay the Titans and have Houston go back to being the Oilers. Titans is a great sports name in general, you've got the alliteration which always is a plus, and it ties into the whole "Athens of the South" nickname. It feels like a much more established brand than the Texans, and the Oilers name works better in Houston.
  7. I've always thought this would be a good, unique look for them. Maybe they could use some navy sparingly to help things stand out, sort of like what the Florida Panthers do right now.
  8. I'm still confused about this take. It's old-timey enough to seem like a name that's been used for a century, combines the team's mascot with the inoffensive portion of their old nickname, and presents a lot more branding opportunities than names like the Packers, Steelers, or Browns. I don't see how that's comparable to names like Sauerkraut Balls or Flying Chanclas.
  9. I agree that we passed the point where the team could be called anything with the 'skins suffix. I think if the team had been more proactive and changed the name before essentially being forced to, Pigskins would have been the perfect choice. References classic football imagery, the team's hog fans, and is close enough to the old name that most people would've accepted it. Considering all the names in pro sports, why would players care at all about being a Pigskin? We've got 2 different teams called the Sox, the Nets, the Magic, the Wild, the Kraken, etc.
  10. Good catch. Not sure how I forgot this one. I guess when you take 3 years between seasons people can forget. Plus the WNBA team did a Stranger Things inspired uniform.
  11. I'm a Tom Petty fan and have listened to that song dozens of times, but even I didn't make that connection, so it seems like a big stretch by the marketing department. I can't really think of what notable impact Indiana has had on pop culture outside of Hoosiers and Parks & Rec.
  12. The only difference is the socks & the double outlines on the numbers/names. I thought I had seen a reference to the 2011 uniforms in their "Era Nights" announcement, but I guess they're honouring the entire 2001-present period so it looks like it'll be the current home jersey then.
  13. Actually, I believe the plan is for them to wear a new home & away centennial set just for this season. I know they're going to be honouring the 2011 Cup team during the year, so maybe we see the old Edge set for that game. This video shows two versions of the centennial logo, so it seems like the yellow B will go on the home jersey & the black B will go on the away jersey.
  14. https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/38031635/nhl-not-considering-season-tournament-nba-addition Glad to see the NHL not hopping on the gimmick bandwagon here. They already tried making up a regular season trophy 30 years ago, and no one really cares about it. Now they just need to figure out a proper international tournament.
  15. If they knew their history they'd realize that the Bengals franchise started out literally wearing Browns hand-me-downs. Pretty big glass house situation there.
  16. I mean "The Spirit of St. Louis" was a thing, so that naming convention made sense. The Mighty Ducks was a movie, but there was no reason they couldn't just have been the Anaheim Mighty Ducks other than Disney wanting their brand to come first. Going back to the previous 3 letter abbreviation conversation, I remember sometimes seeing MDA used for Anaheim. The funny thing is that in the movies the team only gets referred to as "The Mighty Ducks" a couple of times. I'm not a fan of the black for Columbus, but they definitely need to use this template for their home & away jerseys. The thicker piping along the sleeves, 3 stars instead of 1, and the hem stripe would make a big difference.
  17. I think adding a bit of yellow trim to the two-tone red jersey would be ideal for Houston. If the yellow is minimal like it was on the championship set that should keep them from looking too much like Atlanta. Similar to how the Chiefs & Commanders are able to have distinct looks.
  18. I agree with you, but I can't see the Raptors changing anytime soon. They seem pretty set to keep using the red/black/white as the primary look, while mixing in the black & gold, throwback/purple, and blue/white Huskies looks through the city jersey program.
  19. The team website has a photoshop that gives an idea of what it'll look like.
  20. This really should've been what they did first if they felt like they were hard up for cash. Fans still would've been upset, but not nearly as much compared to the jersey. I still expect at some point we'll get something like *insert sponsor here* Field at Yankee Stadium. Who would've thought we'd see Yankee players wearing ad patches before seeing them with beards?
  21. It's a little different when the only colour missing from the logo happens to be the base of the jersey. We've seen plenty of teams use a variation of their main logo on a dark jersey (the Flames home logo doesn't have any red in it, the Blues home logo has no royal blue, the Stars home logo has no green). It's a bit different when the logo is on a white background. The most recent Reverse Retro would've looked worse if the logo had no orange in it.
  22. I mean Lunar New Year is celebrated by people around the world, and the Bay Area has a significant Chinese population, so that makes sense. Unless you're an American abroad, no other countries are celebrating American Independence. I can't imagine many Canadians lining up to buy Blue Jays gear covered in stars & stripes, especially with Canada Day taking place a few days before July 4th.
  23. Well, the Blackhawks logo does use all their primary jersey colours. Eggplant was missing from both versions of the Mighty Ducks logo, and the dark jersey version didn’t use eggplant or jade. Nashville is an example of adjusting/recolouring the primary logo and improving it. The multiple shades of grey & orange highlights weren’t necessary.
  24. I've never heard anyone say that the circle is supposed to be a puck, I think it's just meant to be a circle. This concept shows that it's possible to have the Mighty Ducks logo match the colours.
