  1. Vegas allegedly were misled to believe that Dadonov hadn't submitted a no-trade list when they acquired him from Ottawa. They tried to flip him to the Ducks later that season, but found out that he actually did submit a list of teams, and Anaheim was on it, so the trade was not allowed to go through. There are rumours that they may have to forfeit a 1st round pick, but Elliotte Friedman believes that because ownership has changed since the violation occurred, it likely won't be that steep. He compared it to the situation with New Jersey & the Kovalchuk contract issue. New ownership was in place, so the league reduced the penalty.
  2. I can't wait to see the reaction when we see the first team raise an "NBA Cup Champions" banner to the rafters. It'll be even better if it ends up being a non-playoff team.
  3. The players are actually permitted to bet on other sports as long as they're doing it legally. In this case Pinto has allegedly been allowing a third party to place proxy bets using his account. This is considered fraud, is illegal in a lot of states, and brings other potential issues like money laundering into the mix. The league had to make an example out of someone to make sure no other players think of trying anything sketchy like this. Between the Pinto situation, Brannstrom's scary injury last night, and Chabot now missing 4-6 weeks with a broken hand, it's been a tough 24 hours in Sens land. It already feels like another lost season, but hopefully this means DJ Smith & Pierre Dorion are finally shown the door. They're the last remaining holdovers from the Melnyk era, and the team desperately needs to turn the page.
  4. This looks like it should be a Mavericks jersey.
  5. For Ottawa & Montreal I guess I can see it because they want to avoid issues with having a non-bilingual name. The Ottawa Alerts were a pro women's hockey team that played during the First World War, but I guess they were worried about the plural version not being French.
  6. Well it appears that the team names have leaked, and they are all terrible. I'm really hoping this league can be a success, and I know team names might not mean all that much in the grand scheme of things, but this isn't going to generate any sort of positive interest. Also, the Montreal Canadiens have frequently used a torch to represent their franchise, so it seems like a poor choice for a team in Toronto.
  7. Aside from the warning flag pattern, they didn't really carry much over from the red/white uniforms. The sleeve striping is completely different, and they used way more grey. A black jersey with the original striping, main logo on the chest, and white numbers instead of red would stand out on its own. I've always thought a grey version of the originals would look good, but I can understand them not wanting to do another grey Reverse Retro.
  8. Meh, you can at least still tell which teams are playing. The base colours still match the team, and they have the actual team name or city on the front, not some obscure nickname. Exactly. Most fans will buy whatever is for sale in the team shop just because they like the team. Hopefully this year the two purple jerseys end up being the top sellers. The branding strategy the NBA has moved to is pretty frustrating. They no longer have interest in teams using a cohesive set of uniforms that represent the team well. They just want to make every team's set as diverse as possible, which means everyone loves at least one of their team's jerseys and hates at least one of them.
  9. Plenty of people (including the team's owner) brought up relocation when the Sens were having their attendance issues. I was commenting on the "move 'em to Quebec City" crowd who seem to have convinced themselves that it would be a slam dunk success of a market, just like Winnipeg was when the Thrashers moved there. I'm not advocating for moving the Jets anywhere, but this situation is why the NHL is in no rush to put another team in a small Canadian market.
  10. I don't love the Eagles current look, but I don't understand all the hype around the throwback. The shade of green is nice I guess, but beyond that there isn't much I like. The old eagle logo is way too horizontal & overly detailed. From a distance it looks terrible. The jersey also has nothing going on. It's just a plain green t-shirt with the logo slapped on the sleeve. The colour balance is completely off too. The helmet is green, silver, and white, with no black anywhere. The jersey is green, black, and white, with no silver anywhere. I think the '70s/'80s set is miles better than this one. Let the Jets be the lighter green & black team. The Eagles should use a darker green (not midnight) and silver combo.
  11. Not a fan of the way the yoke outline cuts across the collar. It looks like they accidentally sewed the logo onto the back of the jersey.
  12. How is the NBA even allowing that Nuggets jersey? Don't they have a rule against numbers on a jersey that aren't the players'? I thought that's why every 76ers jersey has used 'SIXERS' or 'PHILA' on the front instead of the actual nickname.
  13. The 2007 All Star Game was the debut of the Edge uniforms. You can see what they were hoping to do based on how the side panels matched up with the pants.
  14. The inability to use hem stripes didn't affect whether or not teams got their jerseys to match. Teams like the Sens & Caps were at least smart enough to use the opportunity to go from mis-matching uniforms to a cohesive set, even if it wasn't on a traditional template.
  15. The overall quality of the HNIC broadcast has gone down over the years, but they always manage to kill it with the montages. I'm part of the camp that has no problem with the Bedard stuff. The NHL knew what they were doing with the schedule. Him vs. Sid on opening night, followed by his first trips to Boston, Montreal, and Toronto, then against MacKinnon & the Avs on ESPN. After the Hawks home opener next week I'm sure we'll see it die down a bit, at least until the first Bedard-McDavid matchup in December. The people who are adamant that putting a team back in Quebec City would be a resounding success are trying real hard to ignore this.
  16. I'm not sure how he thinks acting like an unprofessional child is going to help him get traded sooner. At this point I can't imagine anyone is offering Philly any sort of substantial package for him, and this is just going to make it worse. If I'm the Sixers I'd just let him sit out the year out of spite.
  17. The Wild & Thrashers both made the same mistake when the league switched over to the Reebok Edge jerseys. They took a popular alternate jersey, made it look worse with the new template, promoted it to the home jersey, but inexplicably didn't make the road jersey match. Atlanta wasn't quite as bad, since both jerseys at least used the same logo & font, but both teams should've taken a page out of Columbus's book.
  18. I wouldn't have expected such a nuanced take on jerseys from an athlete, but he's spot on. Teams have clearly exhausted all their good ideas by now, so they're either just coming up with bland designs or milking their go-to city designs dry.
  19. Pretty much every alternate jersey ever created has been a money grab. We just had 2 different iterations of the Reverse Retro program, which was about as blatant of a money grab as we've seen. That doesn't necessarily make the jerseys bad. The Whalers are never coming back, and Hartford won't ever be getting another team, so I don't have a major issue with the Canes doing the odd throwback night. It's the only chance we'll have to see it on the ice. The Oilers/Titans situation is a little different since the NFL also happens to have another team in Houston. The Dallas Stars could use North Stars throwbacks if they wanted, but they're wise enough to leave that for the team that actually plays in the Twin Cities. Much like the 25th anniversary, I'm sure the fans would be happier to just see the team bring back the throwbacks. Except this means that fans who already own Mighty Ducks jerseys likely won't bother buying a new one. Coming up with these franken-backs still manages to scratch the Disney itch, while also encouraging fans to buy new jerseys.
  20. Well they've already done it for both their road games so far this season.
  21. The Commanders really need to bring back their old pants stripe.
  22. It was nice to cheer for a team that didn't have a jersey ad, but I knew this was inevitable. I hate justifying it, but at least it's just a small, single-colour logo. When I heard it would be CIBC I was expecting the red rectangle patch.
  23. One of the biggest complaints about the NHL is that they don't do a good enough job of marketing their stars, especially in the States. Now they have an incredibly marketable star player who happens to be in one of the biggest American markets, and everyone seems to be complaining about seeing him everywhere. This isn't Taylor Swift being shown on every NFL broadcast, it's an actual player on the ice. Bedard is already looking incredibly comfortable out there, and the Hawks have decided to run their whole offense through him. You better get used to seeing him, because he's the real deal.
  24. This was better than the Edge mess they were using as their primary jersey back then, but it still wasn't great. Using a Calgary wordmark + the flaming C together is redundant. They should've had the wordmark say 'Flames', or come up with a flaming F logo. Also, having no yellow in the numbers was a mistake. The shoulder patch was great though.
