  1. Maybe I'm wrong, but aren't two of the main issues people have with Tropicana its location and the fact that it's a closed dome? If so, they aren't fixing either of these problems, although I guess the new roof will at least let some sunlight in. This feels like it could be another Marlins Park situation.
  2. Seravalli doesn't hold back here, and it's hard to disagree with anything he's saying. Kekalainen's tenure in Columbus has been a mixed bag at best, and he put his reputation on the line by vouching for Babcock when most of the hockey world was critical of them hiring him. I think he's benefitted from the fact that the Jackets organization was a complete joke before he took over, so the bar has always been low. I understand not wanting to replace your front office this close to the season, but this feels like another lost year in central Ohio. Might as well rip the band-aid off now instead of waiting until you've been eliminated from the playoffs.
  3. It’s a bit weird that the shade of gold on the jersey doesn’t match the shade on the actual centennial logo they unveiled.
  4. Yankees don't allow facial hair below the lip, so he can't rock the full beard he had in San Fran & Chicago.
  5. Don't see it happening as long as Jerry is around. He thinks the white jerseys are too iconic to change, but also says that navy apparel sells better.
  6. Well, it didn't take long for Babcock to get up to his old tricks. Apparently the Jackets & the NHLPA are investigating, but it seems like a weird thing for a player to make up.
  7. I guess we should change the name of the Miss Universe pageant. How dare we anoint someone Miss Universe when only Earthlings are competing. Association football is a completely different scenario. Is the EPL the top league in the world? Yes, but the gap between it and the next best league isn't that large. If you made a list of the top 100 footballers in the world they'd be spread across several leagues on multiple continents. If you made a list of the top 100 basketball players in the world you'd have 100 NBA players.
  8. Based on https://www.thefaceoff.net/ice-nhl it looks like Tampa was the first team to do it back in 2002. By the mid-2010s it was a pretty common trend. I really like the incorporation of simplified logo elements into the stripe (Edmonton's oil drop, Carolina's warning flag design, Winnipeg's jet silhouette), but can't stand teams that force their entire logo into the stripe (Anaheim, Detroit, Nashville, Calgary).
  9. I feel like a sticker on the back of the helmets would've sufficed.
  10. I mean my point was that you shouldn't be citing "social media fan reaction" as a way to gauge how nice a uniform is. Most fans will love anything their team releases. If they wore blue socks last night or added a stripe to their white pants it's not like casual fans would suddenly revolt. Most of them wouldn't even notice a difference. It's like saying, "My hometown is a great city", and when asked for evidence you say that a rock star said so during their concert.
  11. Casual fans will like pretty much any uniform a team hypes up enough. If they posted a promo video for a Barry Sanders throwback I'm sure they'd get a lot of good responses too.
  12. Definitely wasn't expecting this. I figured he'd wait until after the season to sign, especially after seeing how much money Stutzle left on the table by signing before the season last year. Obviously it's a bit of a gamble considering the sample size, but everything I've seen from Sanderson has been extremely impressive. He was arguably the team's best defenseman last season, and could very well be the clear #1 guy after this year. Very nice to have the whole core locked up without a single guy making $8.5M.
  13. This was confirmed earlier this summer. The team has said the earliest a new alternate would be worn is 2025, and that might not even happen. Pretty refreshing to hear a team say that they won't come up with new alternates just for the sake of it.
  14. Could also be a nod to the old Oil Kings logo.
  15. After this season the Wild will have worn forest green & red for just as long as the North Stars wore kelly green & yellow. They have an established brand, and it doesn't make sense to throw it all away just to play North Stars dress up full time.
  16. Maybe, but I would be surprised. We've also seen teams bring back throwback colour schemes that don't end up being full time primaries (Pittsburgh double blue, Vancouver flying skate, Devils red & green). The Wild logo looks alright in the North Stars colours, but it was clearly designed with the regular colours in mind.
  17. A leak confirmed what had already been suspected, Minnesota is bringing back their most recent Reverse Retro as a full time alternate. It looks like the only difference is the State of Hockey patch being added to the shoulder, and the regular NHL shield being used in the collar.
  18. I can't see it ever being done away with in the NHL. People complain about minor deviations from the suit look already. I can't remember who it was, but there was a coach who wore a sport jacket & khakis on the bench and he got roasted by the media. Tortorella wore a sweater once, but he said he was sick and it was to stay warm. Gordon Bombay was way ahead of you on the marketing coaches' looks idea.
  19. At least that means we won't have a team named after a number. The NHL won't have any involvement in the team naming/branding process, so we won't have a WNBA situation where the names/logos are connected to the local men's team.
  20. So during the announcement the mostly just confirmed what was already being reported. There isn't a logo for the league, or any team names/logos yet, but they are in the process of being worked on. I'm assuming over the next couple months we'll see some things start to come out.
  21. The Professional Women's Hockey League, which is going to be launching in the fall, is set to make their official announcement today, but we already know that their 'Original 6' franchises are set to play in the following markets: Toronto Montreal Ottawa New York City/Tri-State Area Boston Minneapolis-St. Paul I'm not sure if we'll get any news on team names/logos today, but it will be interesting to see if any of them bring back previous women's hockey brands (Toronto 6, Minnesota Whitecaps, etc.), or if they start fresh.
  22. I'd say it's better for them to play in the market they've called home for 120 years. Based on your logic, shouldn't the Mets be moved out of NYC?
  23. You brought up a completely irrelevant jersey. I was asking if you prefer the flat beige over the metallic gold, not which Penguins jersey is your favourite.
  24. So you're telling me you prefer this shade of gold: Over this?
