I’m just thankful Cleveland doesn’t wear those turd cosplays anymore

Officially they still do, but they are fourth choice since they've added the white helmet.

I'm going to guess this should be happening for all of the teams, but at least the Brahmas have announced a meet and greet at the Alamodome for season ticket holders. Unfortunately, I don't know if there would be any players involved since they should be getting ready for training camps the next week.

I guess I'm choosing between Toronto and Foxborough, not to speak ill of any of the nations who will make the tournament but with the expanded field I'm wondering if we're going to end up with a decent amount of matches with limited neutral appeal.

I would expect that people are looking more forward to the knockout rounds than group matches. I think the only reason we'll see any potential groups of death is that the USA, Mexico, and Canada are likely to get the lower end teams in the tournament, but we'll see how they work that. Maybe freezing a few ping pong balls?

I gotta say, I'm super excited for the 8 games in Atlanta. Hoping to catch one or two while the tournament is going on.

I'm probably looking at catching matched in Houston, regardless of who plays. Especially since tickets should actually be cheaper than USMNT games. The game in San Antonio last month had tickets as much as $185. That's half a season ticket for San Antonio FC for most of the seats.

Nani and Mario Balotelli will be on one of the teams playing in the men's bracket this summer. They are the first team announced for this year's tournament

    https://thetournament.com/tst/

This year's tournaments are split between a men's and women's tournament. The men are holding a 48 team tournament and the women are holding an 8 team tournament. No teams have been announced yet for the ladies.

And to what should be the surprise of no one, the US gets almost everything past the round of 32.

What exactly was wrong with "Jerryworld" or "The Death Star"?

This was pretty much known going in, because this was agreed ahead of time. It's why Azteca hosts the first game instead of SoFi.  As far as the nicknames, Fox is still covering this World Cup so I'd expect them to still call it by those names, especially that mop headed goofball that made a career out of a middling national team career. At least until FIFA complains.

I guess nothing in the name says it has to be college athletes playing, so good on them for inviting him. And I hope things turn out well for him because the guy's been through some serious sh!t.

I remember someone playing in the XFL in 2020 was also draft eligible. I think he was actually drafted, but I don't remember if he made the roster.

I wonder how the naming rights holders feel about this? Is there anything in their contracts that will require a 'make good' by each of the stadium owners?

Its protocol in every World Cup to temporarily rename the stadiums as FIFA controls specific sponsors.  It dates as far back as the 2006 event in Germany from what I can tell.

If I'm AT&T, for example, I'm not sure I sign that contract with that provision. 🤷‍♂️

Since this has been the way in FIFA forever, probably not. Sometimes a stadium "forgets" to cover the stadium sponsors logos and get a talking to. AT&T also has a soda deal with Pepsi, but will have to serve Coca Cola during World Cup games due to sponsorship.

Why does it look like they painted a high schools field? Was that a test field before they made it for the actual game? What do they need to test anyways? That the paint won’t be a slippery mess like last year? There are just so many questions I have about this.

If it's the turf, it's just for picture days. The game will be played on grass.

Interesting sighting at the East-West Shrine Bowl

    https://www.tsn.ca/cfl/toronto-argonauts-qwan-tez-stiggers-invited-to-participate-in-east-west-shrine-bowl-game-1.2063993

He's NFL draft eligible which is why he earned an invitation to the game:

"Qwan'Tez Stiggers will be playing pro football in 2024. He just doesn't know where yet.

The six-foot, 197-pound cornerback was the CFL's top rookie last season with the Toronto Argonauts and remains under contract with the club. However, Stiggers is also eligible for the '24 NFL draft and certainly has caught the eye of scouts south of the border.

He'll have another chance to impress. On Wednesday, Stiggers was invited to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl on Feb. 1 in Frisco, Texas.

A solid performance there could land Stiggers an invitation to the NFL combine, slated for Indianapolis from Feb. 29 to March 3. The draft goes April 25-27 in Detroit".

Because it matches the sleeves/socks stripes?

O/W/O looks better though. I understand uniformity has it's place, but sometimes you need to go with the better look. And as far as matching the sleeves. It doesn't match the sleeves on the home jersey, not that they'd wear O/B/B with the primaries. They should be uniform to that shirt since the white pants are uniform to the white shirt.

I would tolerate those, as long as they put stripes on the pants again. It's not hard Washington AND NIKE!

As much as we like to blame Nike for teams rolling with plain pants, the teams have the final say, unless the NFL overrules them in the case of the Browns all brown color rashes, that they didn't want to add TV numbers to, but still let them wear plain brown pants. While we're here, why can't they add a white stripe for the brown pants that are still in rotation?

It works because it's Army. It also works because there's the outline that separates it from the jersey. The space that's there on that Washington concept is too large.

Please no, don’t let this be the next trend in basketball. I can see next years inseason tournament all being on these courts to make up for this past year looking awful for another awful looking gimmick

I could see this being used for the Finals and the In Season Tournament, where the NBA can change the court ads in real time instead of leaving it up to the individual broadcasters to do in house.

Looking at the Brahmas schedule, I already like it so much more than last year's. Having them play Houston away should be a good gauge of how well this team could travel, especially since it's a 3:00 kickoff. Playing a much more balanced schedule should help pack the dome as well.

  16. https://theathletic.com/live-blogs/world-cup-2026-schedule-announcement-live-updates-final/r7oDr4oG9qK4/

Mexico (Azteca) will host the first match on 11 June 2026. Canada (Toronto) and the USA (SoFi) play the next day. MetLife will host the final, Atlanta and Dallas get the semi-finals. Miami will host the third place game. USMNT will play two games at SoFi and one game in Seattle. Canada plays one game in Toronto and two games in Vancouver.
