  1. horsedick-jacked. I've been here a long time, and this is a first.
  2. Oh I know, we just went through the exact same thing here on our waterfront (the Sixers lost the bidding, and their plan would have included their new arena, hence their pivot to the most controversial project that I can remember. I was being facetious.
  3. yeah, A and/or D. I don't "get" it, but if it makes you happy and you have room and budget for them, no reason to stop. You can always sell them later if your kid doesn't want them, and/or set up some kind of rotating display if you have a room for that kinda thing. And if a relative is over and sees one they like, you can be a good guy and give it as a gift.
  4. Hopefully the provision doesn't all for an "of Utah" thing. Like the Salt Lake City Somethings of Utah. I still stand by my bet that if SLC ever gets a permanent MLB team, I'll change my board name to the most self-degrading or ridiculous thing that the mods will allow. After yesterday, "Bisexual_Undertaker" is the leader so far (though that'll be a tough sell to the mods.)
  5. Nike: "Challenge accepted"
  6. Is "pre-emptive Tommy John" a thing? And if so, is it just because it helps reduce the current inevitability of needing it during their career, or that (anecdotally) people come back even stronger from it? If the latter (which might not be the case), shouldn't that be considered like a performance enhancer? IF it's used as a way of making yourself a better/faster pitcher with increased longevity, it seems like a little shady. Might not be a thing, but if it is...
  7. Because I think it'd look cool, that's why. In other news, tf is going on here?
  8. I don't know about actual collars, but I think there's room to experiment with cold-weather jerseys that are made like Under Armour's "Cold Gear" half-zips, or Nike's equivalent. While not a pro athlete, I've played in these and they're perfectly flexible and comfortable, and wick remarkably well for something so warm. Almost like a merino-wool baselayer. I'm actually a little surprised that the haven't taken the opportunity to introduce something like this, since it'd give them more to sell.
  9. Story of how the Phillies Chitty Connect jersey leaked: https://www.mlb.com/news/phillies-players-on-city-connect-jerseys?partnerID=mlbapp-iOS_article-share TL;DR They were in a shipping container to the US, and someone yoinked one out of a box at Port Miami, probably not even knowing what they were going to find in the box that they were stealing from or what it even was once they had it.
  10. meanwhile, Phillies managing partner said that he doesn't see why the team couldn't play in the stadium for 100 years. Just figure out a way to build a giant umbrella and install some space heaters and I'm down.
  11. I hope a group from QC outbids them in the auction, just out of spite, then buys the team. Write-off the $100M for the parcel as part of the relo fee. Let the land rot, or turn it into another strip mall. Or sell it for a dime on the dollar once they take possession of the team. I'm sure there's examples I'm just not thinking of, but I can't think of a bigger failure in my lifetime (basically early 80s). Even the MLB contraction candidates weren't seriously being considered for contraction, and ended up better off and entrenched in their communities (one new, one existing.)
  12. You'd have to see the contract. We don't know details of delivery dates for anything. It sucks there's no way to just wear last year's while waiting for this year's, but that's obviously not possible.
  13. The Phillies hat seems to be getting a positive reception, but from what I can tell, mostly because people think it looks like a Union hat.
  14. yeah that’s the joke lots of my friends are making. But the quake was worse than the uniforms… and the uniforms are trash.
  15. Are there any players on the A's that would legitimately start for other teams? I have no idea as I haven't heard anything about them outside of this thread. If the answer is no, then they could shelf them for 4 years and temporarily expand rosters to make up the difference (and once they do that, there's no going back, so long-run they'd gain jobs). The real damage is to the minor leaguers who wouldn't have a team to be called up to. I'm not sure there's a way to work around that problem.
  16. FKA Oakland A's Just put the FKA in a patch above their current road script. OR, if they really wanted to make a point (and look like even bigger a-holes), they could put "SUCKS" in the tail of the script.
  17. 1. Comparing a COLLEGE program to the NFL is not a good comparison. Of course the college is going to take Nike's money and let Nike talk them into being their "showcase" for all of their "innovative" ideas. It's apples and oranges. None of us have seen their contract with the league, but I wager it's a lot more tight than a college that needs to do whatever it can to stand out for recruits or get attention. 2. No team is going to wear something they don't want to. None. No team is going to be handed something by Nike, hate it, and feel forced to wear it. You can "not buy" it, but the fact is that Nike can't make first contact, and while Nike certainly encourages team to break the mold and push the envelope and whatever else, at the end of the day it's up to the team. That's stone-cold fact. I recommend to read the interview, as there's a lot more than what I summarized, including unused concepts and a link to an actual presentation (as well as a story as to when Nike showed up to make a pitch and was kicked out.) It's paywalled so out of respect to Paul I'm not going to post any of those images, but it's worth checking out.
  18. nike can’t control how people wear things. As I and others have said for years, the teams look exactly like how they want to look.
  19. Most notably, Nike isn’t even allowed to contact teams and suggest changes. The teams go to the NFL, and the NFL goes to Nike. They are contractually not allowed to solicit. So them “pushing teams to change” isn’t even allowed. Not only that, but they don’t do helmets or logos. The only logo they’ve done since the 2012 contract was the Rams, and that’s because the Rams specifically wanted them to do it. They’ve not done any other logo or helmet. the colors are often dictated by the logos / helmets that the NFL/team pick, not Nike’s whims. Also, if a team “knows what they want”, Nike just does it. But it’s when a team just has some vague ideas, that’s when they’re instructed to “challenge” them and push the envelope. It’s not like Nike has nearly as much influence as anyone seems to think they do, and there’s been several instances where teams were like “lol no”. In fact, for the Bucs last set, Nike didn’t even want to do it - it was the Bucs owner that kept pushing for more and more wacky stuff, including materials on the numbers that Nike said was a bad idea because of how it’d get ruined in the wash. They also tried to “fix” the Vikings numbers so each digit would be the same, but the Vikings loved the sail gimmick so much that they insisted on the inconsistency. Also, Nike design is free, but teams can still hire anyone they want to design uniforms. It’s just that since Nike’s work is already paid for, they just use them (from the neck down). The guy is retired and has no reason to lie about anything, and admits that they’re instructed to think more about the younger fan than the older ones, and the “Nike speak” and storytelling nonsense is all contrived just for sales pitches and other reasons, but that on-field presentation comes above merchandising, and when we complain, they often do too and try to “fix” things that don’t come off as expected, but aren’t allowed. TL;DR Blame the teams. It’s really a great interview. The guy was in charge of the Jets change, but was an old Jets fan himself and didn’t even want them to do it.
  20. UW did an interview with a Nike NFL designer that's on his Substack page. It's paywalled so I'm not going to copy/paste it, but it is absolutely incredible, and both confirms and (mostly) refutes what a lot of us have said about Nike when it comes to the uniform-design process. If you're truly one of "us", you'll find it well worth the time it takes to read (it's long.)
