Niiklaz
1940 The board announced that they had an idea about having a second competition. This competition would be in the form of a cup with all games being in a knock-out stage. They wanted to hear the teams, players and fans thoughts about it before making it official.1940/1941 - ResultsTop scorer: Svein Nilsen, Stavanger,
Niiklaz
1941 The board´s idea of a cup was well recieved so the decided to go for it. They named it "The Nordic cup" and created a logo for the tournament. All games would be in the knock-out stages, just like they proposed. The top two teams in the league the previous season got qualified directly to the quarter finals. Last seasons winner, Stavanger, made it to the semi finals were they lost to the first ever winner of the Nordic cup, København!1941-1942 - resultsTop scorer: Samii Kylvamäkii, Tampere, 13 Will continue to do short summaries for just a few more seasons. Niiklaz
1943 A little recap of the last five season; Reykjavík gets back to their winning days and claim the league title fot the third time, they have since the been trailing. Stavanger got their first ever league title and has for the last couple of seasons stayed in the top quarter of the league. Finland has lost their dominance and the Swedish teams has now taken over, three out of the last four league winners has been swedish. The league had remained at 14 teams for five seasons but that was now to be changed. The league would get two new finnish teams; Oulu 32 and Turku JK. The League now had six finnish teams, two more than Sweden. Oulu would play in red and yellow with a little bit of white. Turku would play in white and blue stripes.1943-1944 - ResultsTop scorer: Christer Frederiksen, København, 33 After placing 3rd last season, Göteborg stepped up their game and won the prestigious Nordic Premier League title. They had brought in some new players to get their offence going and they sure did, 124 goals scored and a League best goal differnce of 35, helped them secure the title. This was Göteborg´s second league title in five years and the fourth swedish league title in five years. This season they showed anyone doubting that the swedes were currently dominating the league. After beating last seasons league champions, Malmö, in the quarter final, København went all the way and won the Nordic cup once again. This was an important victory for the danish team as they ended up in last place in the League. This title helped them avoiding total fiasco. Since the league had remained at 14 teams for five years some people had begun to wonder if the league would stay that way. Along with the two new teams and a promise from the board that the league would continue to grow even more, people were very excited to see what the future had to offer. Niiklaz
1944 No news about about any new teams were given before the season but the board said that they were in contact with a few clubs and that they should come to an agreement soon. Malmö updated their CrestNew for the 1944/1945 season: Oulu switched to red home shorts, white away shorts and red away socks.1944/1945 - ResultsTop scorer: Christer Frederiksen, København, 33 The first season for the new finnish teams were quite rough with both teams ending up in to lower half of the table. This is not uncommon though as it´s hard to adjust to such an high quality league. While Oulu placed even worse in their second season, Turku managed to ajdust very well to the league and managed to claim the number one spot in the league table. Even though people knew that Tutku was a good team, they sure didn´t expect them to win, especially not as dominantly as they did. While some finnish fans hoped for a new "finnish dynasty", most people disagreed as almost all the other finnish teams were fighting in the bottom of the table. In the Nordic cup history got repeated as the winner, this time Reykjavík, got the last place in the league. After a good start in the cup and bad start in the league, it seemed like Reykjavík focused on the cup. This cup win saved them from complete fiasco, just like it saved København last year. Niiklaz
1945 The awaited continuing of the expansion took place before the start of the season. This time the norwegian team, Trondheim FC, joined the Nordic Premier League. The board teased the fans by saying that more changes were to happen soon. Trondheim would play in light blue and white.1945-1946 - ResultsTop scorer: Marko Toivanen, Oulu, 34 For the last couple of seasons no norwegian teams had been fighting for the league title. Both the teams and their fans knew that something had to change, and that´s exactly what happened. The winner ended up being Oslo(first title in 22 years!), followed by Stavanger. Two norwegian sides in top was something that the fans had been waiting for for a long time. The newcomers, Trondheim, did one of the best debut seasons in the history of the league with an impressive 6th Place. Reykjavík also improved and managed to get a respectable 4th place. Had they gotten a lift from last seasons cup success? The Swedish domination seemed to had ended as no swedish team placed better than 9th Place. Was it really over for now or was this just a one season thing? In the Nordic cup Reykjavík did what no other team yet had managed to do; winning a back to back title. Would this cup win help them even more in the league?
Niiklaz
1946 As expected, the league expanded even further. Linköping FC was announced to be the 18th team in the League. There were now 5 teams from Sweden, 6 from Finland, 4 from Norway, 2 from Denmark and 1 from Iceland. Linköping would play in yellow and black with a diagonal line.1946/1947 - ResultsTop scorer: Samii Kylvamäkii, Tampere, 30 Oslo and Stavanger were once again part of the fight for the league title. They played well but were simply no match for Aarhus who had an exceptional defence, which helped win by a comfortabble 7 Points over 2nd place Stavanger. This was the first time a danish side won the league in 16 years. Uppsala had a great season. They left the bottom of the table for a 4th place, beat reigning league champions, Oslo and then went on to win the Nordic cup. This was the first time a swedish team won the cup. Niiklaz
I will run through the 3 upcoming seasons rather fast. The reason is that some big changes is going to be made in 1950 and I want to get there as soon as possible.1947 This year there were no news about further expansion of the league, not even a hint from the board of what they were planning.1947/1948 - ResultsTop scorer: Ragnar Bergmann, Tampere, 33 It took a while but they finally managed to do it.. Stockholm´s first ever Nordic Premier League title! They were closely followed by several finnish teams and a few swedish. In the Nordic cup, Malmö won after having scored 4+ goals in every game. Niiklaz
1948 Questions started to raise about the leagues future. The league already consisted of 18 teams and dind´t have room for much more. Would there be a way to keep expanding or would they have to stop? There were a lot of questions and a lot possible explanations but very few answers.1948/1949 - ResultsTop scorer: Olle Svensson, Malmö, 21 Trondheim with a previous best of 2nd Place, which they got three years ago, beat Uppsala in the final fight for the league gold(their first League title). This was a very impressive feat as Uppsala was one of the strongest teams in the league at the moment. Uppsala were strong but not really as strong as they nedded, just like in previous seasons. A 2nd place this season, 3rd place last season and 4th place the season before was a result of that. However, in the Nordic cup they had showed that they had what it takes. They won the gold medal two seasons ago and this year they won it once again.
Niiklaz
This will be the last season of the Nordic Premier League as you know it...1949 Rumours started spreading about the league working on a deal with a sports clothing reseller. What this meant for the league and the teams was unclear. The board had no comments on that. The only thing said was that they had multiple balls in the air at the moment and that they weren´t able to answer any questions. This raised a lot of interest among the people and speculations started spreading like wildfire.New for the 1949-1950 season: The league´s logo got a small tweak to make it look more modern.1949-1950 - ResultsTop scorer: Jorkki Jaakkola, Helsinki & Pekka Nenonen, Turku, 25. Jaakkola wins by more assists. Helsinki had been a powerhouse during the 1930´s and had twice as many league titles as the teams with second most. The last decade on the other hand had been tough for them and before the 1949/1950 season, they hadn´t been able to win a single title in the last eleven years. This season they started going back to their old winning ways and managed to win the long awaited Nordic Premier League title once again. Linköping beat Stockholm by one goal in the Nordic cup and by tht won their first ever title. Noticable in cup was that 3 out of the last 4 teams were swedish. This wasn´t just the case for this season. For the last 4 years the cup had been won by a Swedish team. In case anyone´s wondering why the losing teams advances in cup, it´s because the score gets randomized each time I change something in the excel document. I take one round at a time so even though a certain team won it may look like they lost. Also, I don´t know when I will come with the next update. There will be some big changes so there´s a lot of stuff to do. All I can say is stay tuned, i´m about to take this project and the League to the next level.
