Super Bowl Helmet End Zones (I-VII, XXXI-LIV)

Growing up in the 80's I grew to love the NFL, the Super Bowl, and especially the painted fields of the Super Bowl. Every year I would watch the marathon of Super Bowl highlights on ESPN and marveled at each field, more specifically, the current (at the time) helmet end zones.  I even sketched fields for teams that had not been to a Super bowl just to see what (I thought) their end zones would look like.

Inspired by @pitt6pack and the Super Bowl Field Database - https://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/98529-super-bowl-field-database-early-concepts-for-super-bowl-liv/ and the Gridiron Field Database - http://gridiron-uniforms.com/fields/controller/controller.php?action=main - I utilized the fields that were created and added helmet end zones for all the Super Bowls that didn't use that format.  I just kept my creations to myself until some comments in the thread asked for seeing the fields that didn't have the helmet format.

For those of us who grew up with the Super Bowl with this format, I hope this brings a little joy to seeing some of the newer fields in this "old school format as well as the first seven Super Bowls, which did not use this format.  With this thread I will add @pitt6pack's link for each field - for comparison.

Super Bowl I - The typical format for the end zones was the background would be the alternate team color of the team's helmet.  For I and II, I kept Green Bay's end zone yellow.  As you'll see later, I used green for the background in Green Bay's other appearances.

Super Bowl II - A bit redundant with the helmets in the center of the field.  I added the "Super Bowl II" logos at the 30's.  Although this was not officially called Super Bowl II, it is now known by that name.

Super Bowl III - Again, added the retroactive "Super Bowl III" logo to the 30's.  Also, the Jets' only appearance in a Super Bowl - they did make it worth while though.

Super Bowl IV - As with I and II with Green Bay, I chose the keep the Vikings end zone purple.  Their other three appearances had the yellow background.  Coincidentally, we will not see those in this series as their appearances in VIII, IX, and XI were in the helmet end zone era.  Besides, the Minnesota purple and KC yellow just pop.

Super Bowl V - In a harbinger of future Super Bowls, the ALL BLUE END ZONES!  I removed the red footballs at the 40's to make room for the Super Bowl logo.

Super Bowl VII - This rounds out the early Super Bowls without the helmet format.  Beginning with Super Bowl VIII and continuing to Super Bowl XXX, the NFL implemented this format.

Amazing how even an all blue field can look amazing with the contrasting colors from the helmet.

Hey NFL, take notice!!!!!!

Super Bowl XXXI - This time with a green end zone for the Packers.  I kept the red end zone for the Patriots.  As much grief as the navy end zones get, I feel the navy Pats end zones look better.

Super Bowl XXXIII - The Falcons never reached the Super Bowl during the helmet end zone era so this is the first glimpse at their end zone.

UPDATED - Changed Atlanta's facemask to black.

These are turning out pretty good. It would have been great if the NFL had kept with this style of Super Bowl endzone. It would certainly be an improvement over modern fields. Can't wait to see the rest!

Also, what program are you using to edit these images? I've been using MS paint for years, but it's almost time for me to buy a new computer, and Windows 10 doesn't ship with paint anymore, and these fields you've been putting out have looked great.

I still can't believe you do them in MS paint. Amazing. You'll love Photoshop.

First off, big THANKS to you, @pitt6pack, for bringing these fields to life.  As I've mentioned before, I had sketchbook filled with drawings of these fields.  I've moved so may times since high school (89-93) that it must've been lost in the shuffle.

I use paint.net - https://www.getpaint.net/ - it's a great, free image and photo editing software that gets the job done - a poor man's Photoshop :)

The things I like most about the double helmet EZ:

1. It’s balanced. Makes the field uniform which you would think for the strict as heck NFL, they wouldn’t be so sloppy and complacent about the biggest sporting event in the U.S.

2. Contrasting colors .

Even when the endzones were the same color, the fields still looked like the game was a BIG deal - you knew it was the Super Bowl
