Heavy's What if the AFL didn't exist thread - Part XLVIII Wave 3: Albany ((Thread Complete))

Time for team 45 and this team honors it's connection to Native American history... whilst shaming those that pretend.

LOUISVILLE THUNDERBIRDS
AIL4fc8NrDWB44cML3zeKT8_fJPM4BnfsIP0Q6d8

The Thunderbirds play in the AFC North and are as traditional as most of the expansion teams on the list... being 85% overwhelmly popular when presented as a franchise name choice does that to you but the Thunder Red and Thunder Orange choices are standouts on the field... especially since the Cardinals were an inspiration to uniform choices but they also refuse to wear black nor do they were grey.

All these exciting teams and we need a team from the west to essentially bring it all back.... unfortuately they exist in Mormon country.

SALT LAKE CITY ELKS

ADCreHfMKx2LBNnK4v3f-w0WT61BtV-dVmkMLM3y

Into the AFC West go a side that sells itself on tradition, on connecting Denver to Los Angeles and to Seattle... even though they are run by Mormons and if you know Mormons then you know... not saying how I know but when you know, you know.

Yeah I just saw that @B-Rich, not cool.

Thumb-downing a concept without elaborating isn’t the most thoughtful form of criticism, but posting a separate comment solely to complain about it does nothing but make your ego seem incredibly fragile, especially given how you’ve responded to legitimate criticism of your concepts in this exact same thread. If people find your concepts unappealing, they have every right to say so.

Since a thumbs down is insufficient, I have some critiques to share. With all due respect, many aspects of your work have bothered me for years now. It feels like every concept contains at least one of the following:

-Ideas that sound cool on paper, but are executed haphazardly

-An utter disregard for the concept of color balance

-A design you’ve already posted before in another thread

-Slapping a team from another sport into football

-A worse version of a team’s already existing uniform

-Blatant reuse of Madden create-a-team logos or use of other people’s concept logos without any credit given to the original artist

-A nickname that is either poorly explained or doesn’t fit the location

-Uniform designs that try and fail to mix classic number fonts and stripes with hypermodern elements

-Poor attention to detail. Number fonts are basic, renderings of stripes are inconsistent and sloppy, and sleeve logos are never placed correctly (They should get split in half by the edge of the sleeve, as you show them now, it implies that there’s two logos on each shoulder cap)

-Weirdly political and angry description, usually directed towards NFL owners and those who are offering legitimate criticism

I think there’s a reason that it seems to be the same 4 or 5 users commenting in your threads, because everybody else has seen the same cookie-cutter thread from you five different times.

I’m not trying to be the concept police or aiming to dunk on your work. I am simply voicing some constructive comments in the hope you can learn something from my doing so.

You have legitimate talent and are plenty capable of producing new ideas that feel modern and are executed well (Such as your Chargers and Titans concepts), but it feels like each hit is drowned out by five or six misses. It’s a tad frustrating from a bystander’s perspective to see the same mistakes repeated over and over again across multiple threads.

I’m gonna repeat advice that plenty of others have given you that I’ve watched you ignore for years. You need to slow down with these concepts, pay better attention to the details, learn how to properly utilize a color scheme, and listen to people who have concerns or critiques.

I did this (not this thread) as a side hobby for years and I felt that I was limited to what I did and yet did well for what I was able to do.... feels like that is now coming to a collective halt, not that I've been ignoring the problem at hand for years but pure utter stubbornness kept me going and yet that creativity has dried up.

I'm effectively going to put this and the other thread on hold.

You know what? Although I did say I was going to let others take the front page and all that.... turns out I get bored easily so after 3 months away.

I'm somewhat back and I have unfinished business to settle.

So let's get back to things shall we?

OKLAHOMA BISONS
ABLVV85Xf3xSo4ht6XJzAL6H-l4yfye1v3ukftLb

Oklahoma was long overdue for a football reward ever since they hosted the rivalry matches between the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs and so with a fresh plan in mind... they submitted a franchise bid and was successfully achieved... Oklahoma's reward is the National League's Southern Division against the Kansas City Chiefs.

What is unique here is the dirt like gold they came up with to support the orange, the blue and the white... it is unique in a way that it isn't just Mustard and cutting it.

And so this thread with this last team will be complete... the first bit of unfinished business done and the last of chasing other trends.

So how do we close this thread out? By visiting one of the major what ifs of football had 9/11 not happened....

ALBANY WARBIRDS

ABLVV84zhXHKroX7MpDMFbfD6Ymv1kO9TM6xDhaj

The Albany Warbirds are an identity that literally sells money... the alternate logo is one of the biggest sellers of hat merchandise the league has to offer, with the off silver, the two greens and the supporting black giving it a our current Buffalo Bills vibe... their fanbase are nuts and very supportive when push comes to shove.

Why does no 9/11 give Albany a team?

Also, are the Warbirds publicly owned? Albany's pretty small.

Apparently this logo package, team name, and a very similar uniform set were going to be released for Albany's Arena Football team on September  12, 2001. They nixed the idea due to 9/11. Would have really liked to see a bit more of a departure from the scrapped design in this concept considering everything but the jersey is identical, but it's still a fun what-if design.
