RidgeRunner Posted January 16, 2005 Share Posted January 16, 2005 After watching nothing but football all day yesterday and today, I can't help but notice that no one is wearing anything BUT a Riddell helmet. Does Riddell have a contract with the NFL as the official supplier for helmets? I remember a few years back when Sapp wore an Adams/Bike helmet...I remember because of the vent holes pattern on the top. But I can't remember anyone wearing a Schutt helmet...though most of the face masks are made by them. Anyone know? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
walkerws Posted January 16, 2005 Share Posted January 16, 2005 All of the brands are being worn. ALot of DBs seem to wear Schutt more than anything. THe Adams/Bike helmet is hardly ever seen and I know alot of guys I played ball with were concerned because of the weight of the helmet. They thought it was too light and wouldn't properly protect. Players are allowed to wear other brands, but no brand names other than Riddell can appear on the field. If somebody is wearing a Schutt or Bike/Adams helmet, they either leave the bridge and back advertisements blank or substitute with the team name. A friend of mine broke one of the plastic facemasks and another guy I know had one of the Riddells actually split down the middle. While I reckon that could happen with any helmet, it certainly didn't help my view of that brand. When I played in high school, our whole team was outfitted with Schutt and now that I run a recreation league here in Virginia, the kids in my program wear nothing but Schutt either.By the way, I noticed that Vanderjagt is wearing a Schutt helmet with a Riddell chin strap. mac Posted January 16, 2005 Share Posted January 16, 2005 I've played with both riddell and schutt and I think that Riddell is way more comfortable, probably just because the shape of my head seems to fit into Riddells better, but I never felt that one was more protective than the other, and I have never seen not even in the NFL a player's helmet get cracked down the middle.
