mjteggy05
I posted a washington national's logo a while ago that i had done for a class. Since then I have been putting my portfolio together as I'm going to be graduating in May, so I have decided to revisit this logo in hopes of improving it to put it in the portfolio. As a disclaimer, I started out on this well before it was even announced that the Expos would be becoming the Washington Nationals, and unlike some people that have posted "Washington Baseball" logos on this site, I have no intention or fantasy of this becoming the team's identity, nor do I wish the identity to be changed in general. Anyways, here goes nothing.....posted first is the old symbol and wordmark, and then following is the edited package, enjoy....and after editing:I don't post much, but I respect what you guys all do and say, so any C&C would be very helpful.[EDIT] I added uniforms featuring the new logoset:
VitaminD
Clearly I post less than you, but just a couple things I noticed from the start...1. Why the emphasis on the "O" in Nationals? The different color on the first version, the tilting of the type, the motion lines. I'm missing the significance (they play in DC, they were the Expos). Although the prominence of the O would undoubtably hack off Peter Angelos...2. The motion lines on the O in Nationals makes the letters immediately to the left - the "TI" - much more difficult to read. It'd be hard to use a wordmark if the style makes it harder to read than need be.I do like the W/bird, and the typeface overall is very Washingtonian. DarthMan
i dont really like the o emphasis but otherwise excellent
mjteggy05
Yeah I guess the O/motion lines kinda make it harder to read, my reasoning for this was to create kind of a baseball effect on th O, I'm not sure if it's working either. Thanks for the comments.
mjteggy05
Here it is with the "O" being normal.... better? and how's the eagle/W look to you guys?
mjteggy05
Any suggestions on the uniforms, I pumped out pretty quickly, I wanted to keep it simple, btw the number set will be from the same font as the wordmark. Wish it hadn't taken me so long to finally post a full concept, oh well.
chris85ca
I thought that's the idea you were going for on the O, but yea, I think it looks better without the lines. Nice concept overall!EDIT: On the unis, try some pin stripping
the admiral
I really like the second version with out the weird O, but what if "Washington" was above "Nationals" to the left of the eagle? Pet peeve of mine is when people forget English is read up to down, left to right, and make logos for Cavaliers Cleveland, Seahawks Seattle, et al. mjteggy05
haha, very true, I'll have to try that out. i think only reason i had it below before was b/c of the of funny-looking "O".

stlramsfan
Looks like and oragami swan type of thing!
VitaminD
Changing the O was a solid upgrade. Like TCR said, switch the city and team name (unless you're trying a Mighty Ducks of Anaheim thing... ugh).I am a fan of the origami swan/W; you may want to clean up where the two wings approximate at the chest/base of the W, since there's a small notch there. It's a great design and a nice set altogether, so maybe set the origami W up on the city name (offset by a horizontal line) so it doesn't look like it's setting below the horizon. Not much to add on the jerseys; just make sure that the "W" and "N" in Washington don't wind up under the armpits of the jerseys - it's hard to accommodate a long city name. Pet peeve of mine is when people forget English is read up to down, left to right, and make logos for Cavaliers Cleveland, Seahawks Seattle, et al. I think that's a great suggestion, the logo is already going to be long, there's no need to make it overly tall.

quantum
The origami bird is OK, but the font with the trim looks a little muddied. I think pinstripes might improve this a bit.
the_cynic
Too much outlining. Go easier on your colors too.
